Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 PLEASE SAY NO ONE WILL EVER LEAVE EVER. PLEASE LES. PLEASE. Even Osvaldo & Jonno Quick?
sotonist Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 Even Osvaldo & Jonno Quick? hide the bodies in the away dressing room.
Olallana Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 I think it might be shown here soon....for all those without the channel http://www.castalba.tv/channel/15584 or not....
RonManager Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 I don't give a flying **** who leaves Saints, as long as Les doesn't.
The Cat Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 Just stated again that no deals have been done. No discussions have taken place with any other clubs. Talks have been had with Pochettino and will continue after the season finished because Pochettino wanted to concentrate on remaining games first.

DJ_TOAST Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 Was kinda funny viewing the skate manager sat next to Les talking about the bad times and then Les talking about how so great for us and our academy getting all the local talent etc
Roger Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 ...he also said ''That doesn't mean it won't happen, but nothing has happened as yet''. hmm. Yes heard it as that means someone could come in for our players. At the press conference he said if people do come in they will be told "no" or not for sale,
The Cat Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 "Mauricio made it clear. I bought it to the fore last week that as soon as that games out of the way on Sunday we will sit down and continue our discussions that we've been having. So it's not like we've been doing nothing about it, but we respected the fact that he wanted to focus on, he actually wanted to achieve these record points and focus on the games and nothing else" "This is one of the issues of being successful. It's not just Mauricio it's other coaches at the club, young players, players nowhere near the first team yet. Everyone's attracting attention. They want to know how we do it and can it rub off on them....We have to carry on what we're doing and not worry about it" "There are no deals done, there are no deals being discussed. Absolutely nothing, I can clearly say that. I'm not saying it's not going to happen, but at the moment nothing's been discussed"
kpturner Posted 5 May, 2014 Posted 5 May, 2014 ...he also said ''That doesn't mean it won't happen, but nothing has happened as yet''. hmm. Hmm what? He is just saying he cannot predict the future - who can? Real Madrid might bid £80m for Lallana following a stellar World Cup - or they might not.
Golden Balls Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 At the press conference he said if people do come in they will be told "no" or not for sale, He said "probably" meaning they might also say yes. It's likely that we'll sell one player and that will be dragged up by the fans. Fact is, he didn't say that.
Barry Sanchez Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Name a summer transfer window where no Saints player has departed? Of course we will lose players, how many and how much we can get is the key, along with retaining some continuity if at all possible and keeping the core as strong as possible. We wont be this strong next year thats for sure.
Matthew Le God Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Name a summer transfer window where no Saints player has departed? Of course we will lose players, how many and how much we can get is the key, along with retaining some continuity if at all possible and keeping the core as strong as possible. Since the takeover 5 years ago Saints have only sold one player they didn't want to leave who was a 1st choice. We wont be this strong next year thats for sure. Won't we? Everton sold their star player last summer and have improved as a result.
Pastor Patrón Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Won't we? Everton sold their star player last summer and have improved as a result. And Spurs have of course gone from strength to strength this season
Sour Mash Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 On a sort of related note, there is a podcast on the Coaching Manual website all about our academy, interviews with Jason Dodd, Terry Moore and Andy Marks, not listened to it myself yet though.

Everton sold their star player last summer and have improved as a result. Because we were big fish in a small pond with a lot of money, we did the buying from the other clubs now the shoe in on the other foot. They already had a strong core, do you want loans? Could we attract the like of Barry, Lukaku and Deulofeu? And Baines was their strongest player last season. If we sell Lallana who could we realitically buy to make our team stronger? The same goes for Shaw. Lovren. Schneiderlin. Rodriguez.

WIGANSAINT Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Nothing the club or les can do if players want to leave. Personally listening to Adam and luke I think both could be off. This is the modern game .No loyalty. Just hope the money we get is invested into the team. And I think maurico will stay. Unless a major team gets interested and I don't think spurs are a big enough club for him to feck off for
buctootim Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 And Spurs have of course gone from strength to strength this season Text book example of how to mismanage spending £100m.
Matthew Le God Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 And Spurs have of course gone from strength to strength this season Well that was down to buying badly. Barry claimed a club automatically gets worse if it sells star players. It doesn't, just depends how well you replace them.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Nothing new said, nothing new he could say. Just hope KL and the Board invest enough to keep the momentum from this season going into next. Maintaining the progress we've made over the last 4-5 years now becomes a real challenge - if Adam and Luke or anyone else for that matter are too lilly-livered to stand up to that challenge well we're best off without them in my opinion. Having said that, as I've said before, I think there's more to the spirit in the squad than meets the eye and it's by no means certain that anyone will leave unless they're released by Mopo.

So you would resent them going to Liverpool, Chelsea, United or City? Its a huge step up in their careers, come on lets be honest.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 How could we replace the players I have mentioned? Name some players we could buy that would not weaken the team if we sold those players? And that, unfortunately, is the problem. There is no way if we sell any of our best players that we replace them with someone as good. It's not going to be a case of selling Shaw for £30m and signing his replacement for £30m. Selling players is just a bad idea for us.

What makes it worse is that bar Lovren and Davis (S) every single other outfield first team squad player right now is one we have developed as well (Wanyama is up for debate but I see some good progress in his game this season alone). So we don't even get the medium term benefit of that. Say we do scout well and sign a decent player, we've then got to develop them over a few years etc. Selling when we should be the ones to benefit from our hard work is just a terrible idea.
Pastor Patrón Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Well that was down to buying badly. Barry claimed a club automatically gets worse if it sells star players. It doesn't, just depends how well you replace them. Well yeah but then our two record signings have been garbage, and how about three star players, who's ever improved from that?

The truth I fear would hurt but at least the fans would know where they stand. If we sell this year it would be obvious to see we are a selling club and a stepping stone (we all should admit this) but it would be difficult for the club to argue against this when players are on long term contracts and get sold, they could be made to stay here but would they? I dont think for a second it could work or it would happen, its the way of the World.
Saint Billy Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 (edited) Why haven't we signed 8 players yet damn it!! If we have not signed 8 players by monday of next week I will be absolutely furious. Edited 6 May, 2014 by Saint Billy
Charlie Wayman Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Have we ever had a really great player that we signed on from elsewhere and didn't develop in-house? Keegan maybe, Wayman from far back... not many other than that.
Window Cleaner Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Have we ever had a really great player that we signed on from elsewhere and didn't develop in-house? Keegan maybe, Wayman from far back... not many other than that. Not to mention Alan Ball and many many others.

Peter Shilton got 50 odd England caps whilst at Saints. Edited 6 May, 2014 by Matthew Le God

derry Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Shilton, Watson, Wright, O'Brien, Davies just to name a few.
Bearsy Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Have we ever had a really great player that we signed on from elsewhere and didn't develop in-house? Keegan maybe, Wayman from far back... not many other than that. Mayuka was already one of the World's 100 Greatest Players when we signed him IIRC
david in sweden Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 Text book example of how to mismanage spending £100m. looked at that just the other day ...perhaps only Eriksen is worth his fee.......

Badger Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 ...think I'd have Ron Davies (R.I.P.) ...at the top of my list ..... Difficult to disagree, especially if he then spent the prime years of his career with us
Pastor Patrón Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 give up then yeah? Or maybe keep our key players who all have about 4 years left on their contracts. Either or
Barry Sanchez Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 you mean, in your opinion. jesus it's like you're actually retarded. No it's pretty obvious if we sell we will weaken our side, we are not selling them because we want to are we? We will sell them as well, don't deny yourself that that is a high % of what will happen. Capital for Jesus as well as it's a name.
