Lighthouse Posted 3 May, 2014 Share Posted 3 May, 2014 That was the common complaint last season when we lost at home to the likes of Wigan, QPR and Sunderland. This season though has been a huge improvement. Our record against the teams below us in the League: Home - W7 - D3 - L2 Away - W6 - D4 - L2 That's excellent. I'd wager there are teams in the top 4 with similar records against the bottom 12 in the League. The difference obviously being that we have been poor against those sides above us. Berkshire Saint Posted 3 May, 2014 Share Posted 3 May, 2014 Whilst the results have not been great, we've generally competed with the teams above us though. The heaviest defeats were Chelsea and Liverpool at home and we were right in those games after an hour or so. St Chalet Posted 3 May, 2014 Share Posted 3 May, 2014 Probably our best improvement this year is the way we have put away the lower and mid-table teams. Last year we nicked more points against the top 4, something we can work on again.
Dalek2003 Posted 3 May, 2014 Share Posted 3 May, 2014 Cardiff at SMS was a f*** up, but on the whole I agree.
doddisalegend Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 The teams that we really seemed to have struggled against this season have been Sunderland (couldn't beat them in 4 attempts) West ham and Stoke never seemed to play our best against any of them. alpine_saint Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 I suspected this was the case but couldnt be bothered working out the stats. Certainly we have been better focused and enforced our superiority over lower teams better. On the other hand, we have caused less top-of-the table upsets than last season, though Liverpool away this season has to rank among the best. Oh, what could have been if we had ironed out defensive lapses (Wanyama available more games ?), hadnt been light up front for striking options, and all of our "creative" players had delivered ! Can't remember the last time we beat any of them actually, not these last 2 seasons anyway.

West ham in the promotion season, before that i reckon you have to go back to 2008ish to a 3-2 win over stoke.

There is an element of that I'm sure but other teams can beat them so maybe we just need another plan when we play these teams?
