Man Utd build up thread

9-3

Giggs is fielding two academy lads in his starting XI tonight - James Wilson up front and Tom Lawrence out wide - with another on the bench. Strangest selection is Antonio Valencia at right back though. I suppose he wants to give Jones/Smalling a try in the middle.

We can probably expect a weakened team next week as well.

Valencia doubles well enough at right back actually, not unusual at all. Even Sir Alex used him there on occasions.

I know he's decent, but you don't often see him start unless there's an injury crisis. As I say it's probably just cause he wants to put Jones and Smalling together. Strange to think that Rafael is the only natural and eligible right-back in their squad.

For many? What era is ending? F**ks sake, over-dramatisation or what.

Probably, but Shaw, Lallana, Morgan and Lovren are all too good for us if we have no intention of pushing on. Lets hope our ambition matches theirs.

They're playing reserve players tonight.

I didn't know it's a Utd tradition to blood youngsters in their final home game if there's nothing for them to play for. It worked for them too tonight. Perhaps we'll see Targett or Sims or Reed start on Sunday...

It all depends on how you define ambition really, if it is to earn £100k per week then we are never going to match that . It will come down to the players demand s and whether they want to leave / force a move, if they do there's not much we can do other than get the best price.

Fingers crossed they all stay and we can get rid of Osvaldo and Ramirez who have been a drain on our resources.

Whatever the result I'll stay at the end to applaud them off , great season with the one big regret being the approach to the cups

hopefully Giggs plays a few youngsters up front again and we can finish with a win (3 in a row and feel good factor would help season ticet sales as would a good World Cup.

They are ****. They won't score against our first choice defence and big Vic will be all over the Lampshade. Play Gallagher - chance for him to score a few against a poor side and build confidence for next season.

Which is why they have 8 more points than us... what does that make our team.. hmm... worse than poor ?

In the context as a title challenging team, then yeh...they're **** as they don't have the calibre or depth of squad, but as a PL club in the middle of the league they are better than us in terms of personal. It's just the case that they've been abysmally managed over the last 12 months.

I think the league table looks pretty fair this year. We're top of the rest, which is about right in my opinion. The Spurs/Evertons/Man Utd's have their own European mini-league, and the other 4 are the proper title contenders. The teams relegated are those which fart arsed around with the managerial setup, so it's all pretty much gone as you'd have expected.

For the first time in years there will be nothing special about a visit of Man U, now a team of fading sometime stars and relatively unknown journeymen. With van Persie on his way to St Mary's the only high spot might be how he compares with Lambert who may have to make way for him. 4-1 to Saints seems a good bet if our A team shows up. Historians will appreciate seeing Giggs in a manure shirt for the last time but he will be best advised not to give up his day job too soon as predictions of his rise to Manager are premature and wide of the mark. A season or two at Wrexham beckons.

Manure have refound their mojo, have strikers on fire again, and they can overtake Tottenham if they win and Spuds lose, so don't underestimate once midtable United. This is no time to field a weak team otherwise our season could end disappointingly, which is not good for renegotiating players contracts -those who receive tempting offers elsewhere.

Agree we need to field a strong side and finish well. Rooney won't play though and we are likely to see the thicky twins Cleverley and Fellaini in a non-scoring midfield.

Might we or they wear our new kits for next season on Sunday? No, thought not. I love how the media is drooling over Wilson just because he scored two goals. Ridiculously early to judge him. I think they'll be no pushovers this weekend though, especially if some of our England hopefuls trot around avoiding injury. I think a draw will be a good result for us.

Be interesting if Roy is in attendance with his season ticket as I believe this Sundays games he will run the rule over some last minute decisions, ie - is Shaw good enough for the 23 or will it just be the 30 and will Clyne (and maybe cork) get into the 30. If Roy attends then I think we might have a couple more in the 30 than we think. I still think only Adam and Rickie will be in the 23 though.

This looks both very strange and yet somehow very impressive, hopefully it hypnotises United on Sunday...

I can see it clearly now. The middle represents the Academy, a frenzy of activity with many bodies frantically trying to escape into the relatively calmer outer waters, almost embryonic. The ripples spread far and wide, each a summit to be breached and an experience to be stored. Only the fittest survive, but what quality they show, look at the smooth wide passages as we annihilate lower league opposition and go on to assimilate ourselves almost seamlessly into the upper echelons. There is the odd set-back but our boys bounce back and continue to plow relentlessly upwards. But as our eye travels outwards we see the fundamental meaningless in their struggle, the fact that there is literally nowhere else to go. They have simply outgrown their environment, a human tide of Lallana's and Shaw's and Pochtino's surging and merging with the crowd to almost become as one, but the shadows tell their dark tale. They can never be united, like lovers spurned the tide turns away and the players seek pastures new. The crowd are left frustrated and the dappled shadows foretell an uncertain future, onwards into the light or shrinking back into the darkness, the artist leaves us hanging, anxious for new hope but resigned to despair.

Brilliant. It was just a bit of unusual grass cutting but thanks to your words is now worthy of a turner prize nomination.

See we have the Top Teams favourite ref Mike Dean tomorrow so expect a cheap penalty given to Manure for the dodgiest of hand balls.................................. And absolutely bugger all given to us!!

Jasper Carrott should have retired from comedy years ago.
