Man Utd build up thread

9-3

Recommended Posts

I'm coming down for this one. It has the potential to be a superb season ender. United apparently weren't at the races today. I'd say it could be another big team upset, but they are only one place above us.

Certainly a chance to inflict a bit of misery and look some Manc fans in the eye while doing it.

Coming soon to Itchen North :)

Important we win this. Not because it's Manyoo but 58 points will equal the Skates "team they couldn't afford" best Prem performance. We'll beat it on goal difference.

Just checked again. 58 will beat their best by 1. Still important to win!

A win would put us 2 points behind them in the final table which is pretty much level really, just one last minute winner or equaliser difference across the whole season. If someone had said this time last year that we'd match Man Utd this season you'd have laughed your arse off at them.

I know there are no prizes for it but to finish 2 points behind the reigning Champions, who've since spent about £63m on transfers, isn't a bad achievement. Even though it says much more about their season than ours. Bearing that in mind, I'd go for our strongest possible line up. I know it might risk injuries to WC hopefuls but they still have time to impress Hodgson and some squad places might be up for grabs. If it is tight between Lambert and Carroll for instance, a brace against Man Utd might just be the clincher.

Haven't they still got a game in hand? They could be 8 points away come Sunday.

Home to Hull on Tuesday evening. Hope they win that, wouldn't like to think that we could have finished above them if it wasn't for that joke loss at home to Cardiff. Low point of the season for me that (well one of 3) just nothing at the sharp end, bit like yesterday really..

TBF Utd have had joke losses at home to Sunderland, West Brom, Spurs, Everton, Newcastle and a couple of others.

I just get the feeling that Woy has told clubs who he will pick, so go easy on 'injuries' hence SRL on the bench, Lallana off after an hour. Same for manure, use all 6 subs, no meaty tackles (Big Vic excepted) and ball on the deck. We will be up for it more than them for sure, but bearing in mind we have not scored a proper goal in the last four games, I can see a 1-1 draw as the best outcome, unless Jack Cork finally dips his wick.

Kick Off time on Saints Web says 16.00. Elsewhere it is 15.00. Anyone know which is correct?

It's Sunday - 3pm.

Would be good to end with a big win over a so called big club, just to round this truly remarkable season off in style. Enjoy it whilst we have it, that's what I say.

For the first time since I can remember, I feel very confident for a win against Man U, rather than in hope.

This really. Our midfield should be far too strong for them. Their best bet is a clever tactical counter attacking setup where wellbz could be dangerous. Unfortunately for them, their tactical genius in charge will be... Ryan Giggs

They are on a high at the moment have secured their place in Division 4. I am sure that they are working out new ways to cheat their way up the leagues.

If our defenders are on their game and can effectively clear the million crosses they'll send into our box, we should be fine. They, like us, struggle with a plan B.

Looking forward to this!

interesting from several standpoints.

With our present sqaud, Saturdays startline-up was about as strong as we could field on the day, but Rickie will certainly start on Sunday. Adam and Luke will want to show everyone just how good they really are.

Yes I expect to see a couple of the Academy lads on near the end....and maybe even a 10 minute fond farewell for Guly....provided all goes well in a game where there is " nothing " really to play for.

United on the other hand have several choices. Their " big stars" won't want to chance an injury so close to the World Cup, and so may be on the bench ....or not at all.

Several United players will be out of contract; Vidic is going and maybe one or two others....so there's no real point in continuing to play them.... as whatever the outcome they will finish 7th ..and we 8th.

.....if I were Giggs (or any potential manager).. I'd want to see what " the rest " could do ......before the end of the season, as there are no more competitive games until August.

Although we don't often beat MU, we always give them a good game, so I can possibly see them fielding a weakened side ...and if we do our best..... Saints getting the three points !

So Man U players won't want to risk World Cup injury so will lay off, but Lambert, Lallana and Shaw will going hell for leather as if their lives depended on winning this utterly pointless game? Right you are then.

With nothing to play for could both Saints and Manure make a 'Gentlman's agreement' to play the U21's ?

Only worry is that RVP will probably play. The 2-3 last year sums up all Utd's problems. We were just promoted, unsure, unsettled defence and hadn't proven anything, yet we gave them a hell of a game because they weren't that great at all. We could dominate their midfield enough and trouble their defence a lot. The difference was a world class finisher who punished our defending more. They haven't had it this season, and if they hadn't had RVP last season they'd have been nowhere near the title.

I think it'll be 1-1.

I honestly don't think Van Persie is a big worry, they won't have found a way to fit him into the team with one game to go.

ManUre could still overtake Spurs (on g.d.) and claim 6th spot. Apart from the extra Sky money, doesn't 6th give a Europa spot (with Citeh winning the League Cup, an extra spot is free)? So if they beat Hull in midweek, they do have something to play for against us. Would be nice to spoil it for them. :)

Our midfield will dominate, but scoring will again be the problem. Looks like a 0-0 to me, or maybe 0-1 with RVP nicking one on the break.

I didn't say that - did I? , but there again I've noted you are very adept at putting your own interpretation on other peoples statements....CB.

.......and as for " going hell for leather " ...where did that comment come from?......not me !........but I don't expect our guys to lay back and think of England.

I would have thought that playing home to Man U would be encouragement enough for Saints to play up.....especially as MU players have dominated the England set-up so much in the recent past.

Yep, we'll need Shaw, Lallana, Chambers, Reed and Lovren to be on top of their game against their future employees... ;)

Sorry, sometimes I forget that I don't write for the Mirror.

Not quite sure how beating them in a meaningless end of season game could ever be considered payback for relegation? Not that it was really them that sent us down, we pretty much did that to ourselves with pitiful managerial appointments and awful signings.

They have something to play for, albeit a bit of pride. We don't really and at least two key players who will not want to be left injured for the WC. Giggs will have an extra week and a game to sort out his squad - this is not going to be anything like an easy game especially with the likes of RVP if he plays. Can see a 1-3 score.

Hopefully our squad have all sobered up by the weekend.. ..

Would be good to give United a sound beating but 3pm on a Sunday, players looking to avoid injury and nothing to play for should be enough to ensure it's all a bit flat.

No chance...

Cork, wanyama and Morgan will decimate any kind of play through their midfield.

Davis and Lallana will cause trouble in the CAM role.

Its Lambert last chance to steak a claim for a WC birth.

We have a first choice defence of Clyne, shaw, fonte and Lovren.

United have had a torrid season and want it to be over as fast as possible, not only that but they will be getting another new manager soon... there is no one to impress, they've long since stopped caring about the embarrassment of this season, Rooney is "injured" and giggs wants to give himself one last run out.

There will be only one winner this weekend. It is not United.

Ferguson has gone, get used to the new days.

Dell sized mentality 101 ;) Be positive man!! We've rarely had it this good, united have rarely had it this bad, and you still predict a loss :mcinnes:

They're still a better team, you know.

Like, they have better players. We'll give them a real game but we could lose as easily as win. They have one of the best away records in the league and we haven't been great at home this season. They've got more to play for than us as well - Van Gaal will be watching and they'll all be desperate to put the performance against Sunderland right.

Personally I think we'll beat them but it does depend on which United shows up. They were absolutely awful against Sunderland and have been poor on many occasions but they've put in some great displays away from home.
