Harrison Reed

Another young un that looks a real prospect. Thought he added composure, bite and running when he came on and hope he gets a start next week. Cork and Davis were terrible today.

Looks like the conveyor belt is continuing to churn out great prospects and really think Reed could have a breakthrough season next year.

Good on you young man!

10 Academy players blooded this year plus Lallana. Incredible stat - and I reckon Reed could be best of the lot!

Like him. I think he's got good movement, good touch and a good turn of pace - so he'd automatically add something to our side!

You can tell quite quickly if a player is ready to make the step up at that point of their career, and I think Reed is. The opposite has to be said of young Sam though, he doesn't look ready at all.

The thing that impresses me most about all these kids is there complete level headedness and composure. There is no panic whatsoever. They take to it like a duck to water.

Did you see Brad Smith make his début for Liverpool against Chelsea in December? He was a bag of nerves and didn't put a foot right. None of the Saints kids have débuts like that. The work in the Academy on the way they handle themselves as people extremely important I think.

Interesting that Koeman doesn't see him as the most technical player. Personally I'd agree, I think JWP is far superior technically (and much more like scholes) but reed definitely looks like he had the desire to make it.

Apart from him playing in Midfield and sharing skin/hair colours he's nothing like Scholes in play.

Lazy journalism at it's finest.

Exactly, really dont get the similarity other than what you point out, ive heard so many people say it. If anything he is more like Colback ?!?

I don't think Koeman rates him that highly. Reed has a good attitude and clearly wants to knuckle down and progress. He was clearly perplexed by koeman's comment about him not being the best technical player. Next season is make or break for him. I expect him to make around 20 apps mainly in cups. Not convinced koeman trusts him totally at the moment.

Based on what? He is 20 years old and wasn't going to displace Schneiderlin or Wanyama in central midfield last season and is also behind Ward-Prowse and S.Davis in the pecking order. That doesn't mean Koeman doesn't "rate" him, if he didn't rate him then he wouldn't have been used as much as he was last season in match day squads.

Starts him then drops him next game even if he plays well. Seem to recall he was dropped after Everton home game but I might be wrong on that. He is much better than JWP in my opinion. Koeman treats JWP in a similar way as well. Maybe that's his way of managing young players.

The game after the Crystal Palace match and Schneiderlin was available again after missing the Sheff Utd game. It was hardly a surprise Reed missed out.

They play in different roles and Ward-Prowse is more advanced in his development... being an important member of the England under 21 side and due to be called up by the senior team later this year.

Ward-Prowse isn't in competition for a start with Schneiderlin and Wanyama in the same way Reed is. Ward-Prowse plays in a more advanced role and Koeman played him 25 times in the Premier League (plus he had a long injury). How many other Premier League managers give that much game time to 20 year olds?

JWP very much in and out of the side. Wasnt a regular starter. You couldn't second guess koeman on when he would and wouldn't start. Take the villa game. Win 6-1 superb team performance then drops JWP against City which was a massive game. Don't tell me JWP wouldn't have been narked off about that.

He is only 20 years old and he played in 25 Premier League games (starting 16 of them) this season. Plus he was injured from the Swansea game on 20th September until the Burnley game on 13th December!

How many other 20 years old in the Premier League had that much game time? Let alone one playing for a team that came 7th, with the extra competition for places that brings. Its a tiny number of players!

Can't agree he's better than JWP, Reed is the same age with significantly less first team experience and i think that's for a reason. JWP.

Prowse has far more to his all round game, including the technique that Koeman alluded to with Reed. I think Reed endears himself to the fans far more because he does what a lot of fans like to see - runs around a lot and gets "stuck in" - not to say Reed is a bad player as he clearly isn't, but JWP is a far more accomplished player for his age and in my view will go a lot further.

Wrong. The Everton game was after the LC quarter final, not the other way around. And Wanyama and Schneiderlin weren't 100% fit for the following game at Palace. That's why both Davis and JWP started (Wanyama came on as a second half sub).

I just did it quickly, point still stands if I worded it like...

I think that there must have been a few players that Koeman " didn't trust " in the beginning ......or perhaps we ought to say.....

....." wasn't totally convinced about", but by now he must have a pretty clear picture of who he wants, and who is still "developing ".
