Panda Posted 30 April, 2014 Share Posted 30 April, 2014 And it appears Beckenbauer is not a fan of the 'tiki-taka' possession and passing-based style with which Guardiola enjoyed such success at the Nou Camp. Last month, the man who captained and coached West Germany to World Cup glory was critical of the Barcelona philosophy. "Barcelona are unwatchable because they pass the ball backwards when on the goal-line," he said, offering a view of the Catalans' Guardiola-inspired style that he reinforced after the first-leg defeat in Madrid a week ago, when Bayern boasted 64% of the possession but lost 1-0. "Possession doesn't mean anything when your opponents create the better chances."
Bearsy Posted 30 April, 2014 Share Posted 30 April, 2014 I'm not keen on playing keep ball 50 yds from goal. I spose the idea is to draw the opposition out but you'd need gunpowder to draw out teams like villa if the score is 0-0. We do also play some great passing football tho, I.e the first goal on sat was actually a great passing move which kind of got ignored cos of the comical finish. I agree bear, though Ive talked before about us employing a no risk strategy, we just dont, rarely we try to pop a ball over a defensive line, no long shots of any real frequency. Rarely do we even go wide and hit low crosses. I personally love the way we play but agreed, we need to at times employ a few risks such as a few pops from range.
