pap Posted 30 April, 2014 Posted 30 April, 2014 (edited) Dead at 71, apparently. http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/apr/30/bob-hoskins-dies Mona Lisa, the first film I saw him in. Edited 30 April, 2014 by pap
dinger Posted 30 April, 2014 Posted 30 April, 2014 Real shame, always thought he was a smashing actor. Mona Lisa, The Long Good Friday, Roger Rabbit (it's great!), 24/7...
bridge too far Posted 30 April, 2014 Posted 30 April, 2014 My late aunt was fortunate enough to appear in Pennies from Heaven with him. She always said he was a lovely man. That was such a ground-breaking drama too. Very sad news
Fowllyd Posted 30 April, 2014 Posted 30 April, 2014 Very sad news. Excellent actor, superb in The Long Good Friday, Pennies From Heaven and so much more besides. By all accounts a really decent bloke too. RIP Bob.
TwoPints Posted 30 April, 2014 Posted 30 April, 2014 Real shame that. He was a great actor. I loved him in Mona Lisa and The Long Good Friday in particular. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Bearsy Posted 30 April, 2014 Posted 30 April, 2014 The Long Good Friday he was great in that. I wish he'd done more roles like that, he played a great thug. Never so convincing in comic roles.

First question St. Peter is going to ask:- "Bob. Why'd you do Super Mario Brothers?" Still haven't seen The Long Good Friday. Will hunt it down.

Bearsy Posted 30 April, 2014 Posted 30 April, 2014 Still haven't seen The Long Good Friday. Will hunt it down. Do it, it's a classic. I saw it maybe 2 or 3 years ago and some of the dialogue still makes me lol. Plus, it's ruthless as f*ck.

In my top ten films, easily. Quite brutal in parts, and Helen Mirren in her heyday is f&cking awesome, both as an actor and as "totty". Killer ending too.
Twiggy Posted 2 May, 2014 Posted 2 May, 2014 Who Framed Roger Rabbit is hands down one of my favourite movies of all time. My Dad and Grandad introduced it to me when i was about 4... Genuinely sad to hear about his death. RIP to a legend.
Whitey Grandad Posted 2 May, 2014 Posted 2 May, 2014 4 years old? Do you know how old that makes me feel? It's only the thought of Jessica Rabbit that gets me up in the mornings.

I know, I know - but quite a few people gave the plot away awhile back. I knew who the responsible parties were before watching it. I've now seen the film. Bob is fkn fantastic in this. He's a little timebomb and though his non-verbal acting in this is the highlight, some of the lines are choice too. "Mafia? I shít 'em!"
scotty Posted 2 May, 2014 Posted 2 May, 2014 I crowbarred my old dvd of Roger Rabbit out of the shelf this evening. I'd forgotten just how funny that film was, and how well Bob Hoskins played Eddie Valiant. Superb stuff. RIP.
