From whom Kraks?

Coerced by the media in general, I'm sure. Talksport had a "will Lallana go to Man United or Liverpool" discussion going on, 5 Live had something similar. It's a given to the media that players will go so they're starting to ramp it all up in advance of that.

Saying that, I don't think the comments from the players are necessarily helpful. Yes, they're answering loaded questions, but it's also coming across as if they're putting pressure on the club. Which is fair enough, I suppose, it just all seems a bit orchestrated at times.

Tis the way of football these days, though. Anything for a quote, and anything beyond the banal is highlighted and repeated to the nth degree. Not much we can do about it but sit and hope.

It'd bet there is stuff being feed to the media from many angles, the truth is in there somewhere amongst the ****e. Cortese up to something you think?

Yep you're right, many angles. Cortese could be one but I don't think it's necessarily that sinister, mate. It could be players engineering a move away. It could be players engineering staying at St. Mary's but getting a thoroughly hefty pay rise (and with an £80M+ prize fee this year, why the f*ck not?!). Any number of reasons; it could be that the players all love SFC and want to maintain the status quo. I doubt that a little bit, though. But, whatever the reason, players who've had a good season will put themself on show with some well placed media quotes. Quite simply, it's good for business.

That said, it's the constant solidarity behind the manager from all of these quote that strikes me as something slightly more than random. Not sure what that's about yet, will have to wait and see. But the cynical side of me suggests it's a ruse to put pressure on SFC rather than simply answering loaded questions. Like I said though, i can't really blame them for that as much as I may find it a tiny bit unpalatable at times.

Adam Blackmoore alluded to Cortese trying to de-stabilise post release of the financials with the loaded comments about what they inherited. Doubt he is responsible for all of it though. Might be some truth in what he has been feeding to the usual journo's.

Interesting close season ahead for better or worse

Definitely in the favour of some of the big clubs to unsettle our players. Blackmore said its common knowledge that the Shaw and AL to Utd stuff had been leaked by sources very close to the action at United...trying to unsettle players and also allude to their fans that they won't be left behind in the market again.

May calm down if MP stays, will only get worse if he doesn't or until he decides what he does.

I have a different and perhaps naive take on all of this. The club in the form of the first team squad and manager recognise and appreciate what they are part of and truly want to stay together and build on what they have achieved this season.

I hope you're right - the thought also crossed my mind when I was trying to process the accelerating signals concerning Lallana.

If this is a joint pressure tactic aimed at getting Pochettino tied up for the longer term and giving him a decent transfer budget, it's a somewhat dangerous but actually rather encouraging situation.

In a lot of ways it makes perfect sense for them to stay together, and they must know that it's far from certain that the same people would enjoy similar success (never mind satisfaction) elsewhere.

Reminds me somewhat of a few seasons ago when each week different players were wheeled out to

talk about how they are all in it to fight relegation. Didn't work then either did it :D

Do the players not have to get all media contact and interviews pre agreed by the Club? I thought they did - and as such, they would have known about these interviews and sanctioned them

I don't think you've actually read the article properly. The quotes are minimal. He doesn't discuss any of the things the OP says he does. I don't even think there was an interview. The journalist is trying to squeeze out details from a couple of vague meaningless comments.

What is truth?.. a very good question that couldn't be answered 2000 years ago but looking at the media marathon on the subject of "departing Saints' personnel there are several clear alternatives.

1- Les Reed's fairly categorical statement last week suggests that - if there is interest - no club has made any definite bids or enquiries....despite the "misinformation" circulating like wildfire. True.?

2- LR is out of contact with behind the scenes activity that is secretly planning such moves. (If true- why allow him to make the statement in the first place - at such a late date. most unlikely.

3- The whole process is an organised campaign by agents to up the ante and get even better contract deals - without them ever considering leaving the club.?.....possible in one or two cases.

4- an organised campaign by the media to sell more newspapers, create confusion and mistrust at SMS and " force " people into consider leaving. quite possible but totally unethical by any standards.

Have the journo' ask any club manager if he likes / likes " such-and such player " who he'd like to buy for his team and make a non-story out of it ....goes on all the time.

the apparant stress created by these stories is certainly creating panic in some contributors on this site, and sewing the seeds of discontent amongst many. Certainly the bookies must be coining it ...on bets that will never come to anything, and ...and the end of the day ..(or should it be the season) when nothing happens .......the media will ignore the entire episode and pretend it was just a bad dream.....and then start all over again in the Autumn.

Why is anyone willing to believe these media hacks - amd then criticise MP's when they don't tell the " whole truth "...and demand their resignations.

All quite simple to me:

'Sources' are putting these stories in the public domain to try and destabilise our players - these sources are mostly linked to other clubs, or others with possible interest in stirring things up, and possibly from an agent or two, but mostly from third-parties outside the club.

The media, by and large, are happy to print these stories, because it helps sell papers. They don't make it up, they generally print stuff that is fed to them one way or another, and do so in good faith, but lets not kid ourselves that they check the veracity of all of these stories either.

The club and players are probably generally fed up of thinking about it or commenting on it. There is clearly a desire for MP to stay and so players won't say much until they know his situation, and given that there is a World Cup to think about too, they probably do genuinely want to focus on the football and sort the rest out after that.

And then there's the fans, ranging from people who react to every single line in every single paper, and analyse it until they're blue in the face, without a thought for where the story came from or any of the above, to me at the opposite extreme, who isn't going to waste the whole summer worrying about it in the slightest. I want to keep MP and the players, and build on this season, but what will happen will happen and nothing I do or post will change it.

It's a definite concerted media effort, that's for sure.

More a case of the media reporting on the reaction to a story previously reported by themselves which itself orginated in a rumour. A professional example of how to fill pages in a 24 hour hour news hungry age imo.
