England World Cup Squad - Lambert, Lallana and Shaw included

Cole has been a great player for England and one our few few genuine world class players in the last 30 years. He does seem a bit of a c*ck as a bloke but as a player you can't fault him. Time catches up with everyone though, shame people are slagging him off and can't separate their dislike for someone they've never met with respect for their ability and effort.

He retired a year ago he's just been playing ironically since.

:-)

Makes you wonder where Walcott, Townsend, Walker and JRod would've fit in had they not been injured. I'm not sure JRod would've made it, but would've been in the back up 7. Walcott for Lambert, Walker for Lampard?

Really hope Hodgson goes for it. 2 years ago they just played the Chelsea way against Italy and didn't try to keep the ball. We have so many players who can run at the opposition and hurt them, Italy have an ageing side and aren't what they were. Really think if we go at them we can win.

Just worried he'll make sure he accommodates Rooney and we'll have 2 up front again, sacrifice a gifted attacking midfielder and get overrun again, like last time. I know he has many fans but I can't envisage an England side being successful with Rooney in it. Personality is just all wrong.

I think Rooney's been poor this season against the top sides. He was anonymous in two European games that mattered. So he scored from the halfway line against West Ham, so what?

Most overrated player currently playing.

Congratulations to RL, AL and LS - and I hear that man Utd have tabled a big bid for Luke. Hope he resists it.

I hope the club resist it first and foremost. No outgoing transfers until after the WC should be what we look to achieve, although the big teams will wish differently.

After Sturridge he's been the best English attacker this season. While the whole team's crumbled around him he's still delivered. Madness to leave him out.

You have a point about playing two up top but I don't think we have the midfielders to justify leaving out Rooney or Sturridge. If Walcott was fit I'd think about it

Put Sterling in for Chambo and I'd go with that. Alex is a CM now anyway.

So the reserves, can they be called up at any time (if someone has a sh!t game in one of the friendlies for example) or is it only if someone gets injured?

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/when-is-the-england-world-cup-2014-squad-announced-9333470.html

The England manager will announce his 23-man squad, as well as seven further players on standby, on Monday May 12 at the Luton base of England sponsor, Vauxhall.

Fifa's deadline for the final squads is June 2 and England can make any necessary changes up until this date.

Yeah, that is a decent looking side, same that Danny Mills suggestes on the radio the other night. My first thought is that it looks a bit too ambitious for Hodgson, plenty of attacking talent. The squad is in better shape though than a year ago and its good that Roy has drafted in some younger players like Shaw, Barkley and Sterling to replace some of the older ones

Totally agree with this, some of the stick he has received has been ridiculous. He has always made himself available for England, rarely dropping out of the squad and most of time played to a very high standard. Ok, so he went to Chelsea for the money, he wasn't the first and won't be the last. His generous words last night show real class.

Ahhh the post-Ashley Cole era begins! Fantastic.

Just need to ditch Gerrard and Lampard now and the national team can really begin to move on. Although I fear Hodgson will buy into this Gerrard is the new Pirlo crap and keep playing him for years to come. He'll probably grow a beard to promote the myth.

Personally I'd love to see an England side attack those pretty easy qualifiers with Lallana, Barkley, Walcott, Chamberlain and Sturridge tearing things up. So much pace and talent there. Could add Wilshere too if he could stay fit for once.

Nice post.

Particularly impressive given the speed he runs at ! ;)

Great to see Rickie in there, even with his call up I don't think anyone thought he would make the World Cup. 29 league goals in 2 seasons, despite supposedly being past it. He's been back on form for the few games and it would be incredible to see him score in Brazil.

There must be another specialist right back in the seven on standby. There must be. If Kyle Walker is out then surely there is a possible chance for Clyne or Chambers on standby? The Liverpool kid got taken off and I know Jenkinson scored yesterday but seriously....who else is there?

what did MLT say then Phil

In short the same as we have. Carroll is sh1t....

Much better all round game, intelligent footballer, better distribution. Basically all the obvious stuff. From a "the entire country here has to support Citeh" mentality that exits I guess t he radio show thought that many listeners would not have any idea who he is when he makes the squad :)

Although the Beetroot story has been in the press.

Actually what I think it all means is that "our" Rickie is about to find his life changing. Next stop a Pepsi Commercial with Rihanna & Messi. Think losing AL & Luke may hurt but the idea of having to share our love for Rickie with the rest of the planet..... Yikes!
