Lampard? F*ck off.

There for the experience more than anything, I imagine. Can't argue that as a player he has had an incredible amount of success winning things, so why not have him around the place! Doesn't mean he plays though...

Where's it being reported? Surprised Cole isn't in there but great for us.

But why take him and only one RB?

Leaked to the press today, apparently. We look to have 3 in the squad.

Joe Hart, Ben Foster, John Ruddy, Glen Johnson, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Leighton Baines, Luke Shaw, Jordan Henderson, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere, Ros Barkley, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Daniel Sturridge, Chamberlain, Sterling, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Rickie Lambert

That's near enough who I would take. Lampard is past it though, can't imagine he will play anyway. Defence looks very weak though, shame we don't have the same sort of quality at right back and centre back as we do left back.

In some of the main tabloids today, will have to see I guess. But the fact that Roy has know it for a while and the fact that it's announced tomorrow....kind of possible there could be a leak.

Can see why Lampard is going, he's basically the Gerrard replacement. Apart from Henderson there aren't many other options at defensive midfield; Wilshere, Barkley, Lallana, Milner, Oxo and Sterling are all more attacking than defensive. Gerrard and Lampard have similarly changed their games to move into more of a sitting midfield position. It does show the lack of quality in reserve though that we still have to rely on both of them. Step forward Jack Cork, please. A spot in the Euro squad is surely a realistic target for him.

My thinking really, the Lampard over Cork grates though, I normally try to be unbiased towards England squads but realistically Cork has played v well there all season, Lampards barely played. Logic to me is to get the guy in playing regularly. Let Cork learn from Gerrard, who else is there ? Gerrard/lamps surely wont make another squad.

That squad really misses a real ball winning midfielder and even if you accept Gerrard in that role the lack of cover is scary.

Lampard ones confuses. He doesn't seem to be scoring goals anymore and he's never been particularly good defensively, so why take him other than he'll be a good tourist.

Wilshere also grates on me, someone who gets in due to their name despite utterly mediocre performances over last couple of years domestically and internationally.

Wilsheres a good player on the ball, intelligent, busy, technically good. It does show the lack of any real quality for England though as he isnt anywhere near World Class IMO, partly due to injury worries.

Teams dont tend to play with an actual ball winner these days. Saints do I suppose, but generally you win the ball more through interceptions etc these days rather than tackles.

Wonder if Carroll will be in the 30. Damn well shouldn't be. Think Defoe might be though.

Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck and Lambert will be the 4. Defoe burned his bridges when he went to Canada IMO. If Hodgson takes 5 strikers then perhaps Carroll may get in but with Sterling, Lallana and Barkley behind the strikers I think it's unlikely he'll take 5. I think Lambert has done enough.

Defence is where England will suffer this year. Especially at centre back. I'd almost rather Clyne and Shaw didn't become the fall guys for a shoddy defensive performance, if that's indeed what happens.

Nonetheless I'll be proud of any Saint that makes it to the World Cup. Which is why I'd rather we hang on to Lallana and Shaw until at least the conclusion of the tournament.

We do need a solid defensive CM whose job it is to just boss it in front of the back 4. All defences will leak goals if there isn't enough protection in front of them!

On a side note, have you seen a worse RB this season than Smalling?! Truly incompetent. Embarrassing he's one of the top 8 English defenders.

I have to be honest, I would rather take Chambers to the WC, let alone Clyne, over Smalling based on todays evidence. I realise that was just one game, but for me basics like their composure and positioning should be consistent in an potential International player, and I saw nothing in him today to suggest that he was better than either of our two.

The problem is that Man Utd players have always been called up to England squads, regardless of ability (Smalling, Cleverley etc). In a way it's a little unfair on them as it makes them think they've made it already

Well their fans gave Roy Carte Blanche not to pick a single Manure player.

By tomorrow afternoon we'll all be out of our misery....when we hear Roy's verdict.....then I suppose we'll have another thread started by people who claim to have guessed 21, 22 or 23 correct.

......then they'll be 6-8 weeks of people's opinions about WHY Roy is wrong to take ..." so-and-so" and not A.N.OTHER.....

......followed by the one after we exit the competition .....explaining why Roy got it wrong.

BORING !...roll on August !

Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has been left out of England's World Cup squad and will not be on their standby list.

Southampton youngster Luke Shaw, 18, will be included in the squad.

Confirmed.

Well played Shaw, wonder if he'll get any minutes? Baines is a pretty reliable number to start with. (and to be fair, we may only have 3 games!!)

Just for a minute - imagine being 18 years old and told you are going to a World Cup to represent your country.

That would freak me out.

Congratulations Luke, and indeed everyone at SFC who got him there!

Ahhh the post-Ashley Cole era begins! Fantastic.

Just need to ditch Gerrard and Lampard now and the national team can really begin to move on. Although I fear Hodgson will buy into this Gerrard is the new Pirlo crap and keep playing him for years to come. He'll probably grow a beard to promote the myth.

Personally I'd love to see an England side attack those pretty easy qualifiers with Lallana, Barkley, Walcott, Chamberlain and Sturridge tearing things up. So much pace and talent there. Could add Wilshere too if he could stay fit for once.

I'm looking forward to Euro 2016! World Cup, not so much for England.
