pap Posted 28 April, 2014 Share Posted 28 April, 2014 That's a decent article. Hodgson has seen a lot of Cork lately. More Saints for England?
Olallana Posted 28 April, 2014 Share Posted 28 April, 2014 If they think that it´s strange to give a 6 in rating with team average of 7...
Cestrian Saint Posted 28 April, 2014 Share Posted 28 April, 2014 I bet we end up letting him go to a rival for some ridiculous low fee.
Saint Garrett Posted 28 April, 2014 Share Posted 28 April, 2014 I think Cork will be in Hodgson's mind for after the world cup. If Lampard, Carrick and Gerrard retire, and I hope they do, there is a shortage of CMs. Barry isn't going to get back in so why not Cork. Right age, playing regularly and well in the top flight. Think Huddlestone deserves another look too. Not sure Barkley even counts, he's more advanced in position, same with Chamberlain, Lallana etc. So who is there? Henderson, Wilshere....erm, I'm struggling. Must be forgetting. But you need at least 4 in the squad...who are they? Even if keeping Cleverley you need another 1 or 2. We're certainly struggling for CM's which is why I think Cork should be in there. Henderson, Gerrard, Wilshere and Carrick would be my 4 for the WC. Hopefully Gerrard, Carrick, Lampard and Barry all retire, Wilshere is very hit and miss, with form and injuries. Who else is there? Cork, JWP, Noble, Cleverley, Delph, Britton, Colback.....really struggling....! Cork is certainly the best out of that group IMO.
Rasiak-9- Posted 28 April, 2014 Share Posted 28 April, 2014 Psh. I'm afraid he doesn't do anywhere near enough going forward for me and doesn't really find that 'killer pass' often enough. Good player in a midfield three but I'm afraid the 'step up' we're looking to make is finding players who can do all of what Cork can and then some, chipping in with goals, assists and physical size to win headers etc. Again he's in the Clyne category of being a very good tackler and a very good footballer but the limitations he does have means that there is a massive, massive cap on how far he can go. His type is essential in the Premier League to protect the back four from quick counterattacks but isn't as important for internationals. It seems to me that Gerrard/box-to-box types can fulfil the defensive brief at international level and still get involved further forward. But as has been pointed out, we might be low on options soon. Cork could get a chance but it's just as likely players like Ward-Prowse will step up for their clubs and put themselves in the mix.
