Revenge at last ?

Adrian Heath, 1984. Almost exactly 30 years before.

What goes around comes around....

Do you reckon Evertonians will be talking about this in 30 years time with equal bitterness, talking about that 'cheating Lovren... Probably not... :)

We've beaten them since then! Pahars last day of the season the best I've seen.

They fcked it up for themselves v Palace. Or you could argue they've had a great season but aren't quite good enough. Same as us, few injuries and reserves can't grind out the results. They have more options than us, but partly due to loans to be honest. Rather have our squad purely because we own them all.

Remember a great 2-0 win at Goodison, with Davies scoring a cracker. I think there were all of about 150 of us there, with the game shown live on Sky on a Sunday.

They broke the hearts of our fans, our team returned the compliment yesterday.

As much as I'm pleased to see us play our part in derailing their quest for Champions League football, this is nowhere near enough to offset the 1984 semi-final.

I was there in 1984 and if I was at the front I'd have been on the pitch to be honest. it happened. But c'mon let's get over it. Everton are Everton. When we finish above them next year I for one will will feel satisfied.

Saintly regards

Giordano

We had less than nothing to do with Everton failing to make the top four. As soon as they dropped points at Palace it was all over as there is no way Arsenal will drop points and besides which, they're still very unlikely to take 3 points off City.

That game seems to be the Southampton version of Hillsborough to some Saints fans. Every time we play Everton it's "we owe them one for 84, Heath, Highbury etc."

We don't owe them anything, we've beaten them about 10 times since that semi. If giving them one doesn't actually make things better, there's no point saying we owe them one.

Christ there are some pedantic responses on this thread. Almost certainly because it was me who started it.

Yes, we have beaten Everton since then (but actually not so often); the point was about how Everton havent had so much riding on a result against us before. As almost certainly all of you knew..

I didn't want them to get into CL so was nice to beat them. Many of their fans acknowledged that Palce crushed their dreams but still good to confirm. 1984 is just reason to hate them not going to feel like it is ever avenged.

The financial gains from Champions League qualification would make it more difficult for us to compete with them.

Being part of halting their progress is quite a nice start to avenging 84 and Bent (if we still need to deal with Highbury, I was over it until you mentioned it again) - and more importantly, useful to us going forward.

Seeing the CL place slipping away must hurt, however much they say it was lost against Palace, the table suggests otherwise.

Three points from Saturday would have made a huge difference to their run-in.

From 2005 we owed Villa, Boro, Everton and one or two others....I reckon some revenge has been served, but I'm always up for dishing out more. :)
