Surprised Kompany is in there, don't think he's been anything special this season.

Disagree. Apart from a few weeks ago when they rushed him back from injury, when clearly not ready, he's been outstanding again IMO.

Lallana has now been named in the divisional teams for 3 different leagues in 4 years. Unlikely going to do the fourth (unless a big money move to the Skates is on the cards).

Surprised Shaw's in it, he's not been amazing, just a season of solid performances.

Who are all these left backs that have been amazing?

Shaw could be 35 for all I care, he has had a fantastic season and fully deserves his place. It would be interesting to see by how much he won that position in the team.

Remember, this is voted by by fellow professionals. The players that play against him, week in, week out have obviously seen something in him. I'm a little surprised he's in ahead of Baines.

TBH - based on yesterday only - I'm not

Outstanding accolades for both...and too for club and Academy. Wonder when the last time two home-produced players came through the system to make this team!

Fantastic achievement, we should be very proud of our club - how could you not be happy to be a Saints fan right now?!

Truly remarkable achievement to have two homegrown Southampton players in the team of the year. One is 18 years old and the other has come up with the club from League One. Delighted for them.

However, I agree with a few on here who aren't convinced Shaw should be on there. He's been the most impressive left back by far, considering his age, and that will have won him votes, but I'm not sure he's been the best. Azpilicueta can feel hard done by. I also think Kolarov has been better than Shaw this year but Pelligrini hasn't given him enough of a run in the team to make an impression on everybody I suppose. Baines is always up there.

Also surprised to see Kompany ahead of Terry or Koscielny.

Agreed. Well done Adam and Luke :)

Baines but Azpilicueta has easily been the best left back this season by a country mile.

Cech, Kompany and Shaw being picked just goes to show the lack of thought that players put into their picks imo. The first two especially are classic "Umm..nobody jumps out at me so who is the one everyone says is the best?" picks.

Lots of bitter plastics bemoaning Adam his place in the team on twitter, despite the fact the votes are cast by their fellow pros.

Both we'll deserved, although am slightly surprised at Shaw being in I have to admit. Adds a few quid on his price tag though I suppose.....

Do goodbye to Adam and Luke.

Do shut up. Shaw was very positive about staying. Another saints fan willing our players to leave. Baffling

The fact that at only 18 and 2ish seasons of Premier League footy under his belt he has made the team speaks volumes. As they said on MOTD2 last night no Man U players in the team of the year first the first time in ages.

I also noticed that Ashley Cole was trying pretty damn hard yesterday, no doubt knows his slot is under threat and his summer depends on the last few games, although going on Saturdays game Baines certainly did look pretty inert in front of Roy.

I honestly think when he is at full fitness he is (or is very close to) the best CB in world football. The PFA TOTS however should be a full season of consistant form and in that sense it probably should be Koscielny

Maybe, the media hype around him must help a bit though. I don't really think he's notably better then Clyne or Chambers myself.

I think Chambers is better positionally and more defensive-minded, and Clyne is a better crosser and quicker. Shaw's better at everything else though - if he starts getting 5 yards further up the pitch with the ball, improves his delivery and works on taking set-pieces, we'll have another Bale on our hands.

Would be mildly interesting to discover whether there has ever been an English player in the PFA team of the year that hasn't been picked in an england world cup or euros squad the same year. Any stattos out there?

Without any research I'd guess Steve Bruce might be a candidate.

Azpilicueta hasn't crossed the half way line all season. Solid defensively perhaps, but he offers absolutely nothing going forward be that whenever played on the right or his unflavoured left. He just doesn't have the ability with the ball that Shaw does. Not a chance I'd swap shaw for him. Baines was fantastic last season, by far and away the best left back, but this season he hasn't been as good IMO.

Roy Hodgson: I am going to kiss you now, Southampton Football Club's Adam Lallana.

Adam Lallana: Okay, kiss me, Roy Hodgson the England manager.

Roy Hodgson: (kisses Adam Lallana)

Adam Lallana: (kisses Roy Hodgson)

Roy Hodgson: I hope you liked that kiss, Adam Lallana?

Adam Lallana: Yes, I did like that kiss, Roy Hodgson. Thanks.

5 English players in team of the year, bet 5 don't start in the first WC game which would be wrong imo.

I fully expect 11 English players to start in our first World Cup game

Sadly not much the club can really do if Shaw gets an offer and wants to leave.

Equally not much Shaw can do if we get a stupid offer and the club want to cash in.

He isn't in complete control of his destiny so wait and see is a sensible answer. People read too much into it.

@NIFWA: The @btsport International Personality of the Year is Southampton's Steve Davis.

What's that award for then ?!

I can only find one reference to it, that particular tweet you are quoting? Northern Ireland Football Writer's Association tweet so perhaps a local BT award?

I hope it is true because Davis deserves SOMETHING for this season as he has been a model pro and seems a really good guy (would be a great captain as well if Lallana was out for a period).
