PFA Team of the year

Well deserved!

When was last time we had 1 in the squad let alone 2??

For the prem, last time was Bridge in 2001-2

Last time we had 2 players (3 actually) in a PFA team of the year was 2011-2 for the Championship PFA team, Davis, Lallana, Lambert

Last time we had 2 in for the top tier team? Never, I think. Keegan, Shilton, Watson, Channon and MLT all got there but never 2 at the same time.

Luke just on SSN, looking very smart. His comments...

"For me to be 18 and played 30 odd games is something I was dreaming of. To have done it is very good."

"The England stuff was probably the best feeling of my life. I want more of that so I will keep pushing myself."

"We've got two games left and then we'll have to see what happens at the end of the season."

"Southampton's a great club for youngsters. I've still got a lot to learn."

"It's nice to be linked with those clubs, but like I said, I've got football to focus on."

Asked if he would be happy to not move clubs: "Yeah, of course. It's all rumours really."

Surprised Shaw's in it, he's not been amazing, just a season of solid performances.

Remember, this is voted by by fellow professionals. The players that play against him, week in, week out have obviously seen something in him. I'm a little surprised he's in ahead of Baines.

Not many wingers will have enjoyed playing against him nor many RB's

Luke and Adam in it, and the rest are.

Cech, Coleman, Cahill, Kompany, Shaw; Lallana, Gerrard, Toure, Hazard; Sturridge, Suarez.

So this the first 11 we should be aiming to field next season if we want to show some intent....:)

Seriously though well deserved...well done lads.

Maybe, the media hype around him must help a bit though. I don't really think he's notably better then Clyne or Chambers myself.

It means he's rarely had an outstanding game let alone season if you don't take into account his age.

But he's not in competition with players in other positions to get into the PFA team. He's up against other LBs. As I say, LB is hardly the most influential position -say compared to attacking players, so its no surprise it doesnt attract much attention. Clyne's MOTM was pretty much the exception.

Just can't see how we can keep them both being in the best 11 in the country

No chance

Yep, going to be extremely tough. The argument for keeping Shaw was that he may not get game time at a big club. He'd clearly walk into any side in the top 4 now, he's come on an absolutely huge amount this season. And Lallana is just genuinely top quality. Keeping either of them will be a massive statement.

Shaw has had a wonderful season - I have really enjoyed watching him. He has been outstanding in defence and attack and I am not surprised he has been chosen by his fellow professionals ahead of Baines and anyone else. He has the potential to become a real world beater, just like Bale.

They are both with Coleman (probably) the lowest paid players in that team.... By some distance I should guess

Must just be against weak competition I guess, I never watch other teams games so wouldn't really know. I think it's easy for them to impress in our system though, if Shaw learnt how to cross he'd be a beast.
