Sky Sports saying Wickham could make the England plane.

Saints boy in Leeds

Don't know, he's certainly had a decent couple of games of late, probably too late in the day for him to be in the running for the WC though. Unless Roy is determined to have a front man who actually wins the ball in the air on occasions, depends on where we are with the other front men.

That'd be absolutely f_ucking ridiculous, scored what, 4/5 goals this season in the PL?

Sky Sports are hilarious at times.

But what are the alternatives, Wickham has scored 5 in 3 games, all from open play I think. He's leading their line well and has good control of the ball. Don't think he'll be in with a chance myself but the alternatives aren't great either, not as target men anyway.

I think their quoting ex villa pikey Lee Hendre as he's said "why not" due to his recent form, such a shame about jay rod as is be sure of him going.

He was in the corps at the villa match. Looked like a little boy at a wedding.

I can easily understand why so many Saints fans want to see SRL go to the World Cup - I too think it would be great to see what the big man could do there given the chance.

However, from a parochial SFC perspective, Rickie Lambert is still such a key player for us seeing him push his (30 something) body even further in all that heat next summer and run the risk of injuring himself - after all the game time he has already had this season - could well prove detrimental to the interests of this club next season.

So before we climb on our high horses again let's pause a while and ponder whether letting younger players (such as Andy Carrol or Connor Wickham) take that last place is such a bad idea after all. Perhaps the best place for our Rickie next summer is relaxing in the shade on some beach somewhere, rather than sweating his b******s off half way up the bloody Amazon.

Banging in goals for fun just now

If we had a youngster with similar goal scoring form, we'd be demanding his selection.

Banging in goals for fun in 4 games 1 in 37 up til then. Hodgson is not that stupid luckily

As ridiculous as loads of people saying yesterday that Clyne, who has been second choice here for most of the season go to the World Cup based on a couple of decent performances recently?

Not quite the same. Clyne has had two good seasons in the Premier League and would walk into most Premier League teams. Wickham has had a run over about five games following loan spells to the Championship. Not really a fair comparison.

I wouldn't take either to the World Cup, for the simple reason that Johnson is a better right wing back, while Lambert is a long way ahead of Wickham (and Carroll for that matter).

Walk into most teams? Hasn't even been able to get in ours recently

Shows what a great problem we have at right back, two very good players. Which Premier League club has a better pair of right backs than us?

I reckon most teams would take Clyne at right back, outside of the usual top four or five.

Not quite sure why no one has mentioned chambers for England. He's been keeping Clyne out of the side all season. Why the Clyne bias then?

No bias, I wouldn't take either. Chambers has not played enough games yet for me and still shows inexperience (I thought he struggled over recent games, which I guess is why he was dropped for Clyne). I think Clyne is a better player (although there is very little in it), but has not played enough games since the turn of the year. I would take Johnson and Walker.

As a nation we ain't blessed with great right backs...

Not really, England manager has mentioned Clyne at two stages of this season as bring under consideration and close to squad.

Psh. 3/10. Could do better.

Oh re. Clyne I for one think he was excellent yesterday although I do rate Walker and Johnson above him, but only down to their physique and size.

Clyne's as good a technical defender as both of them, just suffers because of his lack of height and strength.

Bit like Neymar; who I genuinely think is actually more skillful in terms of dribbling and manipulating the ball than Ronaldo and Messi, but the fact that he's so so SO skinny means there's a massive cap on how good he can be.

You're not seriously comparing Clyne's situation to Neymar's? Clyne may be quite short -though he's roughly the same height as Cole but he's stocky and certainly no lightweight.
