Teddy Lambert

I thought Lambert was excellent yesterday and in front of Hodgson, would gamble he probably did enough to see himself on the plane.

He showed vision with his passing, more than a couple of times had twinkle feet, held the ball up when required and inches off perfect execution with his free kick.

We have all seen him play deeper this season, but yesterday he reminded me of a certain Teddy Sheringham.

Assuming that most of you will know what I mean by "The Teddy Sheringham" role or position, is this now Lamberts position for us next season?

Interesting thought. Could work should we get in a good striker in the window.

Problem is, when all are fit, who from J-Rod, Lallana & Davis gets dropped? Good problem to have mind, much like the Cork, Morgan & Big Vic scenario.

Recalling Sheringham's skate history, I have made a minor amendment to your post.

Rickie still has a big role to play in my opinion. We have all these talented youngsters, but they can only benefit from an experienced and talented footballing brain such as Rickie, and, of course, it was in his later playing years that Sherringham really came into his own. Rickie/Teddy is an excellent comparison.

Been saying the same for over two years now... ;)

Ha ha That would be about right.....I'm normally a couple of years behind.

He obviously doesn't quite "Sit in the hole" like Sheringham, but the similarities are there and as already posted, can only be good for the younger players around him.

Yesterday v Everton........Mr Lambert showed what a very good footballer he is.....As always.

Class act.

Feared by the opposition in many ways..

Such a delight to see him make space for himself.

Hold the ball up and some how place the ball to his team mates or dangerous areas.

Quality.:)

I was always amused, bemused and slightly annoyed by the media love-in for Sheringham when Venables picked him for England.

Although Sheringham had no pace, that didn't bother the London-based media as he didn't need it. He had a needle-sharp football brain which allowed him to find space by standing still while the maelstrom stormed around him. He didn't need to track back or tackle and win the ball, there were other players in the England team to do the spadework.

Their job was to win the ball and give it to Sheringham, who would make the team tick by playing in the hole and pinging the ball around.

The problem was that what were seen as positive qualities when possessed by Sheringham were criticisms of Le Tissier, and the very reason he was a luxury player and could not be risked at international level!

Le tissier was a better player than sheringham.

Been making this very comparison ever since he was compared with Grant Holt, Lambert is a footballers footballer, just like Sheringham was. Made his England debut at 27 and his last cap (of 50 odd) at 36, so hopefully Rickie will follow suit!...
