That game was controlled from start to finish. We didn't create many openings, but we didn't really need to - as Everton did that for us! Our control of the game from the middle was immense though, and the performance today was very similar to the performances at the start of the year. Our defensive shape and positioning was top notch, and Victor Wanyama is the main reason for that.

A fit Wanyama is like going out there with a back 5, his strength is beyond question, but also his defensive mind - he spots and sniffs out danger before it's even there, very important player for us.

You are usually right and this post is spot on!

This. I'm convinced we'd have been challenging for top 6 if Wanyama hadn't got injured in November/December.

Jack Cork (on transfer speculation): "All the lads speak to each other a lot and we all know that everyone wants to stay here and play here and it would be a shame to ruin what we've got going"

My Jack Cork manloveometer just went up another notch.

He's so dreamy.

Oh, and another amusing chant from the Northam

2-0 to the Everton, 2-0 to the Everton etc

Northam were on good form today! There were some others too.

Is anyone going to answer my question about the block in the Chapel wearing blue T-Shirts making the whole block look Blue?

What was that about?

not much comment on gallagher. worked hard but not sure of his quality yet, doesn't look ready and lost possession a bit. lambert was superb in the hole, just needed someone making better runs ahead of him.

Had a nice little bit in the first half around half way where he took the ball and did about three Everton players before squaring the ball, calm as you like.

I hope Woy enjoyed it today! Is it too late for Cork and Clyne or can they grab a spot?

Hildon Mineral water Club Corporate Affiliates or whatever they call them had a promo day and were handing out flyers to win a Season Ticket wearing white and blue jackets. It was probably them as they were sat in the Chapel.

I'd suggest not without injuries.

Clyne IMO would have had a great chance had he been in the Saints side all season (Roy Hodgson in attendance today yet again). But getting usurped at times by Chambers was his undoing. Today he showed why, IMO anyway, he is a better option than Chambers right now. A really good right back.

Jack Cork's time will come after Gerrard and Lampard retire, both probably after this World Cup. He is quite possibly the most under-rated player in the Premier League, absolutely superb technique. If he could add goals, he would be in the England reckoning already.

I think he looks about as ready as anyone could expect. It's a hard, hard role to play at that age and only a few very special cases can pull it off in their teens. Strikers need games for confidence, and considering our comfortable league position it's beneficial for the club to give him that chance to find his feet. I'm more than happy to keep him in the starting XI for the last two games.

Boruc - 7 : nowt to do. Decent distribution. First touch a bit flairy.

Clyne - 9 : excellent.

Fonte - 7 : v good.

Lovren - 7 : v good.

Shaw - 8 : v good.

Wanyama - 8 : v good

Cork - 8 : v good

Davis - 9 : excellent.

Lallana - 7 : good

Lambert - 7 : good. Much more effective than usual.

Gallagher - 7 : good. Makes a difference having a striker who actually has half a chance of getting on the end of a through ball.

We must have one of the best looking squads in the league. Lovren, Cork, Morgan, Gazzaniga are all handsome men. Lallana , Fonte and Shaw also good looking chaps.

Back to the game and I thought Clyne and Cork were superb. Both easily good enough for the England setup and should be in or around the squad after the world cup.

Everton fans complaining that it was one of their worse performances of the season, against a side who weren't all that good.... oh and they were robbed by the referee!!

Seems such a familiar response by quite a few supporters, particularly the 'bigger' clubs, when we have dominated a game

They're right to be annoyed with the performance I think. You always watch your own team with more scrutiny and they didn't really show up today, some of them. If we'd watched that game as neutrals it'd be easier for us to see their failings and them to see our virtues.

It's the same when we get beat by lesser teams. Sometimes you get total injustices like Villa where it's clear as day but Norwich away is a good example of being bettered on the day and only seeing how we cocked it up.

I thought Everton were pretty awful, didn't look interested, let us do what we wanted for most of the game. Saints played well but Everton were poor.

Is it me or is this forum a much more pleasant place to be this afternoon? Can't quite put my finger on it.... :)

There's a couple of things missing, f'sure.

But then I quite enjoy the niggle and controversy. Meh. It's a bit sad if you can't accept some well placed negativity, even if some of it is a bit forced. Even Alpine makes me laugh these days, the poor old pessimistic prat.

Defensively superb throughout the team, and that base gave us the solidity to hold onto the lead we were gifted. Read some Everton fans talking about Cork being far worse than McCarthy the other day, I doubt many would have that opinion after Jack's performance today. He was simply superb.

Many Everton fans traveling down today would be appalled by their performance and they did look flat, but that was mostly down to us not letting them play. Our midfield snuffed out any attempts to play through the middle and crucially our full backs stopped theirs getting forward.

This. A fit VW just makes us a FAR better team, he is a beast in the middle, totally took Barry/McCarthy out of the game. MS and JC are boih great players but both are better with someone like VW next to them. Cork was magic today but he couldn't have had that space if Morgan was next to him.

yet another big shout for Davies, he's been exceptional this season. if you get a chance watch him live and the work he does

Good solid performance, we played well and Everton were poor, still concerned about our forward line and pace going forward, we need to strengthen to improve as Gallagher needs far more time and he is appears to be a British footballer as opposed to a Premiership one.

Time to go to the pub and celebrate. See ya.;)

For once I must agree with you... Mrs f's cousin, also thinks he is top eye candy.... I just think he is a top player, although Davis was IMHO deserving of the MOM accolade today... Just, as I could easily have picked 5 or 6

FFS Francis, please don't agree with me. Your credibility is shot to pieces, mine is low enough as it is, I don't need the association, thanks.

Start a thread on flexible ticket prices immediately, I need diversity from your nonsense immediately after that commendation.

Great performance for all to see but I would have liked some of our chances to have gone in. Would we be Champions League if we had someone like Suarez?

It's not just about lacking 1 player in my eyes, we just don't have a big enough squad to challenge up that end.

When did he do that, Digachoi?!

In a presser earlier in the season. He said that it's impossible for them to play in the same side but wasn't pressed to specify why. Looked good to me today! I think Vic allowed Cork to break forward a bit more today but he isn't that effective in the final third unfortunately. In terms of breaking play and passing through congested areas, he is superb. Really need to get him signed up as well.

Yes. But don't mention it, or you'll get called negative and a bedwetter.

D'oh.

I think thats a little understandable, especially without Rodriguez and Osvaldo (in terms of why we got another Striker in the first place) and also no good options off the bench.

It so peaceful and civilised on the forum this evening...none of those glaring...

This message is hidden because "S**t for Brains" is on your ignore list.

Anyway...I think I enjoyed that game more than any other this season. Couldn't pick a clear MotM, I thought there were at least half a dozen outstanding perfromances. Even big Vic distribution was immaculate.:)
