I don't agree with imploding - but we could certainly lose a lot of our academy first team players which would be a shame. But we would get a lot of money for them which would hopefully be invested wisely and no doubt we could be in upper mid table again next season. But I kind of like the idea of keeping the academy together.

The team spirit is as valuable to us as the players imo. If we sell Shaw lallana and Morgan then we are pretty screwed imo because of the message it sends regardless of how much money we make and that's my definition of imploding.

Taking lallana's one sentence is unfair. The full statement basically sounds like an invitation to the board to do the things to keep him.

It seems a long time since last April when he was signing a new contract and saying he wanted to finish his career with Saints.

love watching MOPO doing interviews, he already knows what answers to give before his translator asks the question......there is nothing wrong with his English, he is just very shrewd with English journos....and quite rightly so in my opinion.

Agree. This is one of the reasons I’m happy for MoPo to carry on using a translator. Also, some foreign managers who struggle with English often come across (unfairly) as bumbling fools.

Why should he think he might be going anywhere else ? We've had no enquiries or offers and nobody is probably for sale.

Needs to get his ducks in a row with Reed then.

I way I interpreted Adam's "we'll look at things in the summer" was simply him reflecting what Les Reed said yesterday. Whilst the question was directed at him personally I felt he was simply echoing the club line and was speaking about things in general, not just his own situation. In other words "we're concentrating on finishing the season well and everything else will be dealt with in the summer"

Lukaku put in a donkey's performance - showed why Everton fans are divided on him and why he probably isn't a long-term answer for Chelsea.

Indeed very poor today, probably missed Mirallas's contribution to their offensive game . Can't see why people rate either Barkley or Deleofeu (?) very poor players today. Glad to see we're not the only ones who crumble when faced with a raft of key injuries.

Just back from the game.

What a top performance!

We made Everton look very ordinary indeed.

No Saints on holiday yet chaps!

Can't remember who it was but someone on here billed this as the battle of the fullbacks.

It was a massacre.

Shaw was excellent today and Clyne had probably the best 45 I've seen him have (in the first half). Second half I thought Everton did a pretty good job of pushing him back but the fact that they had to change their approach to try and nullify him speaks volumes for Clyne's impact on the game.

Artur had nothing to do apart from pull off a nice Cruyff turn and save a week header from Lukaku. Incidentally, Lukaku was woeful today. Missed two good chances and offered little else.

Fonte and Lovren looked excellent again and they were well protected by Cork and Wanyama. These two bossed the midfield and looked very comfortable as a pairing in the middle. Cork needs to be signed up ASAP.

Steven Davis? Excellent as always. I kind of wished we had signed Naismith when Rangers went t**s up but what the hell do I know? A huge standing ovation when he was subbed late on and well deserved.

Lambert had another good game, dropping deeper and feeding the willing runs of Gallagher. So much to Lambert's game nowadays. Hope he ends his career with us. Legend.

Lallana? Not his best game today but he oozes class. Such quick feet. Wish we had enough depth to rest him now because he doesn't look up for anything remotely like a stiff challenge IMHO.

Subs: Guly! Had a great chance towards the end and unselfishly tried to play in someone else. Failed! Reed: nice little run down the right but just over ran it. Looked promising though. JWP: Steady, had a good shot well saved.

All in all a cracking afternoon!

Favourite chant: Who needs Rodriguez? We've got your back four!

Everton fans? Lots of them. They were loud for the first 45 seconds then not a peep.

Last person down the tunnel? Luke Shaw. Going nowhere IMHO.

COYS!!!

2 Amusing chants

We are southampton - we don't need to score

Who need's Rodriguez, we've got your back four

The latter quickly followed by do do do dodo do do etc Jay Rodriguez to show respect.

Did anyone see that block in the chapel all wearing blue t-Shirts?

What was that all about?

He was put on the spot and had to say something.

To be fair, had he said, 'I'm definitely not going to leave,' then he scores the winning goal in the world cup final and Real come in with 100m, and 10m per month in wages for him, to link him up with Bale..........

He did also say we have a great young team, which he is proud to be captain of and it would be great if we brought in a couple of good players to improve it.

To be honest, I really do think that if MP signs a new contact and we ship out Osvaldo, Mayuka and some of those who will never play in the first team squad again and bring in a few decent signings, the likes of Adam and Luke Shaw will stay, and we will do very well next season.

A fantastic performance all round and although we missed the cutting edge that Rodriguez gives us, Everton also did not trouble Boruc unduly either. The key to the match was the midfield and we were dominant, despite not having Schneiderlin playing. I understand that the Cork/Wanyama pairing was a first and I was confident that Cork would acquit himself well. Cork was my MOTM yet again, but Clyne, Shaw, Davis and even Wanyama weren't far behind. Again the central defence partnership of Lovren and Fonte was solid, winning most of the aerial battles and generally forming an inpenetrable barrier in front of Boruc, who was largely a spectator. Lambert, Gallagher and Lallana should have had a bit more about them in the box, but otherwise played well holding the ball up, but they should have had a few shots at goal.

Lambert did have a good shot at goal from a free kick and hit the foot of the post, Howard beaten. Lallana also had a clear shot, but it was one of his powder-puff shots, lacking venom and straight at Howard. There were three handball shouts for us and one for them, nothing given by the ref. Where it looked as if they had earned a penalty when their player was brought down in our box at the Northam end, I was relieved to see play waved on and their player yellow-carded for simulation.

This was a game that I had anticipated losing and hoped for a draw. As it turned out, it would have been a travesty not to have had all three points, as we outplayed them. Out of these three remaining matches until today, this was the one I thought we might get nothing from. I am now thinking that it is not improbable that we might finish with a flourish and win the next two. It will always be a great feat to beat United, but there can seldom be an occasion when our chances will be this good.

Excellent post Wes. Summed up all my thoughts and then some.

I had a few too many vodka's during the match to attempt such prose....

That game was controlled from start to finish. We didn't create many openings, but we didn't really need to - as Everton did that for us! Our control of the game from the middle was immense though, and the performance today was very similar to the performances at the start of the year. Our defensive shape and positioning was top notch, and Victor Wanyama is the main reason for that.

A fit Wanyama is like going out there with a back 5, his strength is beyond question, but also his defensive mind - he spots and sniffs out danger before it's even there, very important player for us.

We outplayed Everton it was a great performance till we got in or around their box Howard only had one save of note to make and that was in the 91st min from Ward-Prowse why the hell won't someone put their laces through the ball and have a go from outside the box, if Everton had not have put two through their own net we could have been out there till midnight and would not have scored.

The translator was struggling not to laugh as he knew that MP was answering the questions about transfers with a completely different answer :)

Are those people chuckling and chortling at MoPo's post-match presser and smirking at how he treated Ray Stubbs' questions with disdain the same people who criticise the manager for keeping silent over his future?

That's what Ray Stubbs was trying to draw out of him. Asking awkward questions of people is what journalists do. Strangely enough, they do it on your behalf because they are in a position to do so.

Stubbs would rightly have been slated if he hadn't asked those questions which are on everybody's lips and which Saints fans wants answers to.

Fer fooks sake !! Rushed home to watch the match only to discover it had already ended and we'd won 2-0 ARSE!

Same here. I got out of bed just in time to watch the last two minutes. It's only televised for me when there is an odd KO time too.....And to top it off, i now have to work mandatory overtime for the rest of today.........Even the result can't make up for this disastrous Saturday!! :(

would like to see Everton's penalty shouts again .. From where I sat, it looked a clear one?

The first one? My interpretation is that Lovren's challenge didn't change Osman's trajectory - he would have ended up on the deck whether Lovren touched him or not as he was going to ground just before the contact. Plus the ball was heading out of play anyway
