52 points. Best ever equalled for a 38 games season

and some rate this as a 5/10 season?

some lovely football today, Cork and Clyne superb

you can tell we miss rodriguez

but a good team performance. Good game from vic too

Very good performance but Everton bottled it.

We didn't carve out too many chances and on another day we wouldn't have been so lucky with the own goals, but we still deserved the win. Cork, Clyne, Shaw, Lambert and Wanyama all excellent. Reed looked bright when he came on.

£20 well spent at half time :)

Quality performance from Saints. We've played better this season and not got anything.

52 points with two games to go.

Cork = MotM

Rather enjoyed that. Maybe we didn't create many chances, but neither did they. Santana and Cork great. Can play together obviously. Don't care if they were own goals. Scoreboard doesn't care either.

Excellent all round performance . Well done everyone . Even read shows t

Lots of experience we he came on .

My one gripe is re the taters Instead of analysing where Everton went wrong taters . Why not discuss how well saints played and were far the better team than Everton. And this is the reason Everton didn't play well . They were not allowed to play well .

I predicted the toffees would come unstuck

Wanyama and Cork. Autocorrect.

My only niggle was we still haven't scored or created much. Otherwise though we were excellent and defensively we were superb. One of our more satisfying results this season and we really can be satisfied with our league progress.

Another game that highlights to me why jack cork should be playing centre mid alongside Gerard for England. Sadly he won't get picked which is probably good for saints long-term. Good decision to start Gallagher and once Rickie showed why comparing him and Carroll is like comparing apples and oranges.

We got a bit of fortune with 2 big decisions second half but after everton's fortune at theirs it was evened up IMO. Think potchettino could have done with making the first tactical change sooner.

Lallana on BT: "I am just looking forward to the last two games. We will sit down in the summer and see what happens next."

Indeed, and he also said that Southampton could get in another couple of players in the transfer market and then challenge for Europe. I think it is very much in the balance. If we make a statement in the summer and sign a couple of big players to move on to just outside to challenging for European spots I reckon we might be able to keep hold of him.

Football's such a strange game. We played the same fast-touch passing game we've made our trademark. In many other games this season we dominated on possession, style, passion... and still fail to win. Today the luck mostly went our way. Beautiful to see. Davis, Wanyama, Clyne and Shaw were fantastic. Lambert shining in his playmaker role.

As a side note, football needs a new solution for unintentional handball in the box. Penalty is too harsh... but you also can't just wave play on. I think there should be a freekick from the nearest edge of the box to the handball. As things stand there's no consistency.

Played v.well again, but I've seen us drop points loads of times this season playing that well. Difference today was the little bits of fortune that fell our way. Also that, for once, the ref didn't seem out to get us.

We'll finish above Everton next year #boldstatement

Most satisfying win of the season, and looked so comfortable in the second half. Terrific games by Clyne, Wanyama, Davis, Cork....CBs solid all day; Luke good. I don't think Vic missed a pass all day and the combination of he and Cork worked out so well.

Agree with that. It's in our hands basically. This summer will be so interesting, either we push on to the next level or we implode.

ffs, outscored by Everton again........

Pretty much sealed 8th place.

Decent performance.

Would have been nice to see a Saints player score.

Cork, Clyne and Davis best 3 players on the pitch today - and not much to chose between them.

Bold indeed, but if we're going to improve on 8th then you have to think they're the team we're most likely to overtake, them or Spurs. The top six is going to be unbelievably competitive if Liverpool keep at it and United get their act together

Any chance of talking about Saints BT Sport?

Was just thinking the same... but because Everton were going for the Champions League I guess it is not entirely unexpected.

Great result. Shame we didn't get a goal of our own as I think we deserved it. Great performances all over the pitch today. 58 points would be nice.

Good result, we played our usual game and they didn't really turn up, except to score 2 OGs. Poor reffing but as it evened itself out it doesn't really matter. Thought Clyne added another dimension today.

I don't agree with imploding - but we could certainly lose a lot of our academy first team players which would be a shame. But we would get a lot of money for them which would hopefully be invested wisely and no doubt we could be in upper mid table again next season. But I kind of like the idea of keeping the academy together.

love watching MOPO doing interviews, he already knows what answers to give before his translator asks the question......there is nothing wrong with his English, he is just very shrewd with English journos....and quite rightly so in my opinion.

He would have been better to have said nothing .

He was put on the spot and had to say something.

To be fair, had he said, 'I'm definitely not going to leave,' then he scores the winning goal in the world cup final and Real come in with 100m, and 10m per month in wages for him, to link him up with Bale..........

He did also say we have a great young team, which he is proud to be captain of and it would be great if we brought in a couple of good players to improve it.

To be honest, I really do think that if MP signs a new contact and we ship out Osvaldo, Mayuka and some of those who will never play in the first team squad again and bring in a few decent signings, the likes of Adam and Luke Shaw will stay, and we will do very well next season.

The translator was struggling not to laugh as he knew that MP was answering the questions about transfers with a completely different answer :)
