robdevil7 Posted 26 April, 2014 Share Posted 26 April, 2014 Well done, Matt! Very happy to see him on the bench. I obviously hope he can push on next season and provide competition for Luke.

DuncanRG Posted 26 April, 2014 Share Posted 26 April, 2014 (edited) How many from the academy have we used in our squad this season? Let's see if I can count... Lallana, Shaw, Chambers, Ward-Prowse, Gallagher, Reed, Isgrove, McQueen, Stephens, Rowe, Sinclair and Targett is 12. Fairly sure they've all been in but only the first half have got more thna a couple of minutes on the pitch. Has Turnbull been in a squad? EDIT: Targett is the eighth academy player to be used in a Premier League squad this season and will be the seventh to play if he comes on Edited 26 April, 2014 by DuncanRG
70's Mike Posted 26 April, 2014 Share Posted 26 April, 2014 we really could do with a "Steve Moran" type striker coming through the Academy, lots of fullbacks and midfielders need the next Moran/Shearer/Wallace soon

ottery st mary Posted 26 April, 2014 Share Posted 26 April, 2014 Good to see Isgrove now playing his second game for Peterborough. AND scoring today in a very important game to help Posh secure their play off spot. Still on loan and definitely not finished with Saints in my opinion. Well done Matt Targett
The Cat Posted 26 April, 2014 Share Posted 26 April, 2014 Ryan Seager Josh Sims Sims has all the attributes to be a very good player, he's not so much a striker though. Jake Hesketh looks decent.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 27 April, 2014 Share Posted 27 April, 2014 Someone I know from the Academy has mentioned that coaches reckon MT is better than Shaw at that age. Looking forward to seeing some of these guys.
Matthew Le God Posted 27 April, 2014 Share Posted 27 April, 2014 (edited) Someone I know from the Academy has mentioned that coaches reckon MT is better than Shaw at that age. That doesn't really make sense as Matthew Targett is only 68 days younger than Luke Shaw. The gap in age is so small between them it is relatively non existent as they are peers of each other, yet Shaw has a senior England cap and nearly 60 Premier League appearances compared to Targett's 0. I find it extremely hard to believe any coach at the academy could possibly think what you have suggested. Targett isn't going to get 60 Premier League games under his belt and an England cap in the next 68 days is he? Faz Posted 27 April, 2014 Share Posted 27 April, 2014 The opinion I read ( I think it was a comment from Jason Dodd) was that technically Targett is very good, but Shaw's physical development put him ahead. Let's face it, Shaw is a beast. Targett is still, I'm sure, developing at a more normal pace physically.

Most teenagers who break into English teams manage it at that age because they're tough enough, because even the most talented kids can get it beaten out of them at the top level. That's what makes Ward-Prowse all the more impressive for me - he's a slender lad playing in one of the toughest positions on the pitch but his awareness and ability to find space gets him through it. He doesn't let people near him too often. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
