How do people (a) have the balls to do this and (b) even discover there is a cycleable route down? Made my stomach turn watching this.

What's the point? The best that can happen is that you get back where you started in the same condition as when you left. The same applies to parachuting, skydiving, potholing, Russian roulette...

This is Redbull Rampage part of the World Freestyle Mountain bike tour.

 

We have the world champion in this discipline, a guy called Sam Pilgrim. Look him up on YouTube a top lad.

Should of added that I've got mad respect for these dudes as their lines are crazy, I can't even go around the local forest single tracks here without getting a flat or finding a mountain uphill for 4km's.

 

Am sure some have seen this but the Valparariso downhill in chile is sick.
