Les Reed's statement in full

i dunno LD, his statement seemed pretty categorical to me, he said he'd not even had any enquiries! He would be v.big liar IMO if he's been conducting clandestine negotiations all along

He would be a liar of extraordinary magnitude if that were the case. We'd have to give him a nickname or something.

I've said for a while that most of the signs are positive. While he may share a surname with 80s horror icon Freddy, I don't think Ralph Krueger has come here for a nightmare.

However when you reflect on it all the popular press has goaded us into doing something we don't usually do, commenting on rumours.

Communication is 55% non-verbal, 38% tone and only 7% words. Our bodies have an annoying habit of letting out more info than we want.

Is there a more self-evidently idiotic statistic than this one? If the words themselves only made up 7% of the content of communication, they'd be largely arbitrary, and complex ideas could be communicated primarily through shrugs and grimaces.

Always nice to say **** off to the journalists and bigger clubs who either make up **** or think they have the god given divine right to get other teams players.

Thank god there is an early match tomorrow so this forum can get back to criticising our players, questioning the board and manager. I don't think I have seen Bearsy make so many sensible posts on 1 thread.

Except it isn't the clubs planting the stories, or the journalists making them up.

The sources are most likely to be from the web of agents and middle men connected to clubs, managers and players. With a few random sources thrown in, for example there is a bit David Moyes face saving going on, or, perish the thought, an embittered weasel-faced Italian keen to stir up some sh it.

Yea but should the guy from the Guardian be not only swallowing this crap but actually publishing it? Maybe I am niaive but I expect more from such sources?

That was the old way, that's old hat now and stupid. Remember when we didn't reveal injuries and that was a master stroke by Adkins, yet when MP came in we do and Adkins didn't know want he was doing and out of his depth, MP was the future and revealing injuries was the way forward? Well this is similar. Now its pathetic not to comment on speculation and this great statement is proof.

It's been proved conclusively that none of is true, then?

The stuff around Man U intending to gazump Chelsea, and them stepping back could well be true at this point. As could the Evra thing. As could the Moyes bit. Our Les is incapable of saying none of that stuff has happened or is still happening.

Les Reed ' s statement is great but is not the end of a chapter some seem to think it is.

This is all part of the game, and it is far more multi - faceted than "that evil lazy journalist is a liar" and "a club spokesman has said it so it is undeniable truth".

Yea fair point - the fans emotions are increasingly secondary in the greater scheme of things. Beam me back to 1900 :)

Seems pretty categoric to me. The club don't normally respond to rumours but the latest Luke Shaw one probably needed a statement to calm a few nerves. Good to hear that MoPo is discussing the future too. That's the key to next season really. Get him signed up on a nice long contract and I'm sure we'll keep the likes of Shaw for at least another season. Although Shaw has had the headlines this year, I'm not 100% convinced he'd walk into a first team spot in a top 4 club ... not unless we finish in the top 4 next season of course ?

Jamie Jackson, I would trust that he has reported everything told to him verbatim. Whether someone's spinning something, I don't know but he's certainly well connected in Manchester and The Guardian wouldn't go so big headline wise without sources.

Joe pulling out archive stuff does nothing for your banter, there should be a poll, what fans have the worst banter, from my time on the bbc606 Celtic/Rangers/Bham City and Liverpool fans had the best banter, we on the other hand had posters that made point Dexter seemed exciting.

So let me se if I've got this right then. Owners, directors, managers, players and fans would all prefer to keep what we've got and add a few more quality players in the summer, but nobody knows what will actually happen.

Is that it?

Anyone who doesn't think clubs are making deals with players because there has been no offical interest , is seriously deluded.

But possibly less deluded than those who take the press at face value I suggest!

I like that we seem to be continuing to do our business privately...I'd assumed it was Cortese driven but nice that the culture sustains.

There won't have been any enquiry to the club, but you can bet your life somebody has sounded out somebody as to whether players are open to a move.

Look at the Suarez bit from arsenal last season, do people seriously think Suarez knew nothing about it until Liverpool told him "we've had an offer". Do people really think arsenal made that offer without some nod or wink from Suarez. The day before that offer Rodgers could say "we've had no contact" about Suarez and that would be the truth. Led reed receiving an offer will be one of the last acts of a transfer saga.

As for the press, they really don't just make things up especially if its a named piece. People make things up and drip it to the press, but they don't just sit there and pluck things out of their heads. I have a life long friend who works in the gutter press, as did his father as well. He's told me loads of dodgey stuff they've done, but he's always maintained they never make transfer stuff up . Clubs are looking at hundreds of players so it doesn't necessarily mean its a lie when deals don't happen. In this case a journo hasn't just gone in, sat down and thought " I need to fill some column inches, I know I'll make up Shaw and lallana to man u". Somebody has fed them this, my guess maybe Moyes camp, under pressure he was trying to ride it out by leaking players for next season that would excite the fans. It could be agents trying to unsettle them, it could be saints trying to fire up a bidding war. It could be any number of things, but it ain't a journo just making things up , not in this day and age.

Oh gotcha, I think we're talking cross purposes. Totally ppl contact Shaw's rep, I bet they do it all the time even tho they're not sposed to! My thing was that before this statement everyone was making out like we'd officially or unofficially accepted that we were going to sell, I mean the club rather than Shaw's agent. I thought that too! I don't now really, I reckon we're gonna make a fight of it!
