Seems positive. Good to hear there have been no negotiations going in behind the scenes. So the Shaw stuff was all crap as we expected. They've set themselves up for a fall though. I'd be very surprised if we're able to keep Shaw if the silly money being mentioned is correct. I feel he does owe us at least one more year though.

So no done deal for 90% of our squad to ManU straight from the horse's mouth? The papers have been misinformed? (I use this word generously). Well, that's sure to put a bee in the bonnet of the doom and gloom squad. I still expect Shaw to go but it's nice to have some clarification on the pressing issues.

What about "We want everbody to purchase Season Tickets before we tell you whether or not Pochettino and some of the players go."

Nice to have all that money reeled in before any negativity hits us

Standard stuff really... doesn't change the fact that some players *might* leave if we get big offers.

Tomorrow is another day when something else will happen. All we can do is wait for the end of August to be sure of what the squad will look like for next season.

I just hope that of the first team regulars, it's two or less that leave and suitable replacements are in place in good time. We need squad stability rather than wholesale additions or changes.

this is lies, the board are acting to slowly and dont have the stomach for the fight to keep our main players. MP is showing no loyalty and Shaw is off to Man United.

All FACTS

Don't forget Crab Lungs' exclusive that Lallana signed for Man Utd yesterday for £25m...

if there is stupid money on the table for Shaw, and for him, then chances are he will be sold just as Ronaldo got sold by the biggest club in the world to one of the actual biggest clubs in the world. I absolutely do not see this as the board lying about wanting to keep players, as this is a genuine position but football business is football business.

what is clear is that players won't be sold unless stupid money is offered, and reports that all our best players and MoPo are leaving are very wide of the mark as it stands.

muppets can sit here and debate the FACTS or read between the lines because they have sod all else to do but it's not all doom and gloom, and it isn't 'we're going to win the Champion's league in 2016' either.

In reality even if we sold players I would imagine most would renew anyway. Any drop in revenue would be a drop in the ocean compared to the TV money. Particularly when most who don't renew still continue to buy tickets on a day to day basis anyway.

This (Les Reed's statement) is another sign of the new board's style. This would never have happened under Cortese. It's as if the board are aware of the worry that the fans have over these rumours and have acted publicly to ease those worries.

SouthamptonFC: Mauricio Pochettino: "We have had a last-minute problem with Morgan Schneiderlin. He is definitely out." #saintsfc

Morgan doesn't appear in any of yesterday's training pics.

Despite going worse together than superman and kryptonite (supposedly), surely MP can't afford not to play both Vic and Corky?

Who said that?

I think Cork can, and will, play Schneiderlin's role. For me, it's Cork and Schneiderlin that are similar in that they are both all round central midfielders.

Not really "standard" stuff is it. Yes, of course players might still leave, but Reed has come to basically say that some of this speculation is really getting carried away at the moment and needs reigning in a bit.

Les Reed's statement is 99% great and re-assuring.

Any enquiries we get will probably be met with a ‘no, not for sale.’ Our intention is to keep this very good team together and build on it by bringing in players to improve upon it.

Just wish he hadn't said 'probably'...

I was only going on the Twitter quotes - having read the full statement, you're right, it is far more emphatic and deals with the speculation head on.

Normal pre-match conference, but Les Reed came out beforehand to read that statement.

Probably didn't want a repeat performance of recent pressers with the same old candidates obstinating on the same old questions. Far too many "done deal" rumours circulating recently which, exactly as I said yesterday, are totally contrary to recent club statements.

Oh Turkish dear boy, very clever... We will see what happens in the summer. The desire expressed by les is great, but I still believe that the 'financial mess' statement was to set expectations... Unlike some on here, I just hope I am wrong, would like nothing more to be eating platefuls of humble pie as it would mean we have held on to all and will be going into the new season full of optimism. Some it seems are happiest when they can blow their egos with their 'visionary' facts.... This playground is full of the typical little bullies wanting all to see how high they can pi ss.....

I'm 99.9% sure I'm over thinking it based on the Les Reed statement, but the language used by MoPo seems much more positive this week compared to recent conferences. It comes across like he is far more committed based on comments such 'showing we're doing things in the right way here' and 'it flatters me' on our progress etc.

Could it be that some reassurances have come from the board, which has also resulted in the emphatic statement from Les this morning.
