Golden Balls Posted 25 April, 2014 Share Posted 25 April, 2014 Seems positive. Good to hear there have been no negotiations going in behind the scenes. So the Shaw stuff was all crap as we expected. They've set themselves up for a fall though. I'd be very surprised if we're able to keep Shaw if the silly money being mentioned is correct. I feel he does owe us at least one more year though. farawaysaint Posted 25 April, 2014 Share Posted 25 April, 2014 So no done deal for 90% of our squad to ManU straight from the horse's mouth? The papers have been misinformed? (I use this word generously). Well, that's sure to put a bee in the bonnet of the doom and gloom squad. I still expect Shaw to go but it's nice to have some clarification on the pressing issues. Doctoroncall Posted 25 April, 2014 Share Posted 25 April, 2014 Standard stuff really... doesn't change the fact that some players *might* leave if we get big offers. Tomorrow is another day when something else will happen. All we can do is wait for the end of August to be sure of what the squad will look like for next season. I just hope that of the first team regulars, it's two or less that leave and suitable replacements are in place in good time. We need squad stability rather than wholesale additions or changes. Daft Kerplunk Posted 25 April, 2014 Share Posted 25 April, 2014 if there is stupid money on the table for Shaw, and for him, then chances are he will be sold just as Ronaldo got sold by the biggest club in the world to one of the actual biggest clubs in the world. I absolutely do not see this as the board lying about wanting to keep players, as this is a genuine position but football business is football business. what is clear is that players won't be sold unless stupid money is offered, and reports that all our best players and MoPo are leaving are very wide of the mark as it stands. muppets can sit here and debate the FACTS or read between the lines because they have sod all else to do but it's not all doom and gloom, and it isn't 'we're going to win the Champion's league in 2016' either. Nice to have all that money reeled in before any negativity hits us In reality even if we sold players I would imagine most would renew anyway. Any drop in revenue would be a drop in the ocean compared to the TV money. Particularly when most who don't renew still continue to buy tickets on a day to day basis anyway. Webby Posted 25 April, 2014 Share Posted 25 April, 2014 This (Les Reed's statement) is another sign of the new board's style. This would never have happened under Cortese. Window Cleaner Posted 25 April, 2014 Share Posted 25 April, 2014 (edited) Normal pre-match conference, but Les Reed came out beforehand to read that statement. Probably didn't want a repeat performance of recent pressers with the same old candidates obstinating on the same old questions. The desire expressed by les is great, but I still believe that the 'financial mess' statement was to set expectations... Unlike some on here, I just hope I am wrong, would like nothing more to be eating platefuls of humble pie as it would mean we have held on to all and will be going into the new season full of optimism. saint_ed Posted 25 April, 2014 Share Posted 25 April, 2014 I'm 99.9% sure I'm over thinking it based on the Les Reed statement, but the language used by MoPo seems much more positive this week compared to recent conferences. It comes across like he is far more committed based on comments such 'showing we're doing things in the right way here' and 'it flatters me' on our progress etc. Could it be that some reassurances have come from the board, which has also resulted in the emphatic statement from Les this morning.
