pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 The Strokes did a song back on "Is this it?" called New York City Cops. According to the lyrics, they ain't too smart. The latest Twitter shítstorm is unfolding after the New York City police department decided to go on a charm and marketing offensive with the #myNYPD hashtag. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/apr/23/mynypd-twitter-call-out-new-york-police-backfires Things went badly awry the moment the public started associating their own photos with the hashtag. Who else loves the smell of police brutality in the morning, especially with a garnish of backfire?
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 Saw this earlier on. What a bunch of muppets, did they really not see this coming?
pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Author Posted 23 April, 2014 Saw this earlier on. What a bunch of muppets, did they really not see this coming? My guess is that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Look! A dog being frisked
Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 They act like Romans, but they dress like Turks!
Give it to Ron Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 Were some of the most helpful Police I have met - one of the safest cities I have been to - felt far worse in UK up North, London and some areas of Southampton!
pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Author Posted 23 April, 2014 Were some of the most helpful Police I have met - one of the safest cities I have been to - felt far worse in UK up North, London and some areas of Southampton! I'm not a fan of the way the US does authority. Arriving at one of their airports gives the worst impression of the country. My general experience is that they've been terse, rude and somewhat scary - whereas British coppers are capable of a bit of a laugh.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 I had the same experience Pap. Even though it was only 1 night, it was fuckin' strange.
Halo Stickman Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 I had the same experience Pap. Even though it was only 1 night, it was fuckin' strange. To be fair though, Tokes, I find all that photographing and finger-printing by surgically-masked officials at Japanese airports rather unwelcoming
Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 We have to keep the dirty gaijin out HS! However that ain't strokes song so of topic here. Give yourself 1 infraction point.
pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Author Posted 23 April, 2014 To be fair though, Tokes, I find all that photographing and finger-printing by surgically-masked officials at Japanese airports rather unwelcoming I really dislike finger-printing at airports in any country. The default is to treat you like a criminal? Yeah, thanks. Horrible practice.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 They do that here Pap. Since I married a dirty foreigner, I have to join the dirty foreigner queue at airports (real foreigners not even the ones ukip hate) and I get to see how mean we are to them. We are up there with the yanks. Finger print here, cough into this, **** into that. We also run a tight unfriendly ship at our airports. Though they were ok at the Joey Barton scouseland airport near you tbf.
pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Author Posted 23 April, 2014 It's bollócks, and a bit racist if you think about it. Here's a picture of a NYPD cop with an interesting gun to cheer you up.
Gemmel Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 They do that here Pap. Since I married a dirty foreigner, I have to join the dirty foreigner queue at airports . Why? Did you give up your British Passport?
Jonnyboy Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 It's bollócks, and a bit racist if you think about it. Here's a picture of a NYPD cop with an interesting gun to cheer you up. What's up with that policeman's foot? It's like some sort of trotter...
pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Author Posted 23 April, 2014 What's up with that policeman's foot? It's like some sort of trotter... I was wondering that myself. It looks like some kind of shin-pad with a boot guard. His planted foot looks weird because it's off to the side. Dunno what its for though. Extra kicking the f**k out of someone capacity? Active denial system for the stamping of toes? Scuff protection? We must have our stormtroopers looking their best
pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Author Posted 23 April, 2014 Here's a slightly more upbeat one, evoking a classic theme. Fat copper with night stick vs ninja wielding an invisible sword.
SuperMikey Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 I love social media fails, this goes down with British Gas's Twitter Q&A hours after they hiked their prices by 10%, and also Harry "face like a ballsack" Redknapp's hijacked Q&A too. There's just something hilarious about the good intentions they started out with in terms of connecting with the man on the street, only to have the internet version of liquid sh!t hurled back in their faces. Absolute gold. Oh yeah, and to add to the topic - here's another photo.
pap Posted 23 April, 2014 Author Posted 23 April, 2014 Utterly subverting the intended message via social media is becoming one of the most populist forms of dissent. There's a lot of it about. It's amazing that NYPD even gave this a try, given the number of photos that have been fired back their way. A few bad apples in the Big Apple, or part of the big zero tolerance approach and tacitly supported by the mayoral administration? Either way, it's a little bit worrying to see the f**kers tooled up like they're going to war.
John Boy Saint Posted 23 April, 2014 Posted 23 April, 2014 Here's a slightly more upbeat one, evoking a classic theme. Fat copper with night stick vs ninja wielding an invisible sword. Don't be silly they are remaking Fame and this is one of those street dancing thingymabobs!
pap Posted 24 April, 2014 Author Posted 24 April, 2014 Ooh! This is a nice coincidence. Ties in well with the Occupy beatdowns
buctootim Posted 24 April, 2014 Posted 24 April, 2014 (edited) Greenpeace is a very successful environmental campaigning organisation that engages in peaceful protest and civil disobedience - chaining to railings, blocking access etc. They are very effective in dozens of countries throughout the world where the police generally allow them to protest and if pushed too far will eventually drag protesters out the way or charge them with a public order offence with a £100 fine penalty. In the US and Russia they have never been anywhere near as successful - because of identical policing tactics - baton and tear gas weilding, cracking skulls and six months plus in prison. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 April, 2014 Posted 24 April, 2014 It's not New York, and it's not really brutality. But it is police, and it is quite funny... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5V1vSuEMMo
