saint_stevo Posted 18 December, 2008 Share Posted 18 December, 2008 Not me. I'm happy with the fire and rescue service. There are others on here that seem happy to drop the rescue bit though... Amen.

Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 18 December, 2008 Share Posted 18 December, 2008 I have called the Emergency Services many times in my life, and never once for spurious reasons. (Quite) a few FATACCs, including some really nasty ones which involved both Police and Ambulance; a couple of fires and one Coastguard call-out in Angmering involving a broken down fishing boat. My favourite was, however, by proxy when my two oldest children were 6 and 5 and were being (badly) looked after by my sister-in-law while my wife and I were in Copenhagen. She had been on the pop the night before and was sleeping it off when my two children tried to wake her up, but with no success. They had just been taught about 999 at school and so they called them up, saying "Mummy is having a baby and won't wake up". Cue shedloads of ambulance and police at the address within minutes (it was a Sunday morning at about 7 o'clock). Sister-in-law was mortified and incandescent at the same time. After the crews all left she phoned our hotel to tell us. I couldn't talk to her as I was laughing so much so my wife spent 20 minutes trying to placate her. The kids spent the whole day on the settee in disgrace but I made sure that they had some really nice presents when we arrived home.

Thedelldays Posted 19 December, 2008 Share Posted 19 December, 2008 yes...one for real, when on the M271 the lorry in front of me lost control and ended up on its side...so rang 999 etc.. and another time was when me and some mates got thrown out of New York New York and we called 999 (whilst a bit drunk) and said the bouncers threatened us with a knife...the police were there in about 3 mins and closed the place down for the night... Denzil Posted 19 December, 2008 Share Posted 19 December, 2008 I rang 999 because an elderly neighbour was being harrassed by about twenty kids one night, I saw it from my old bedroom window. when the meat wagon turned up I also gave the operator directions to give to the O.B about where the kids had just ran away to. bridge too far Posted 19 December, 2008 Share Posted 19 December, 2008 Oh for ****s sake. leaving your door key on the coffee table does not constitute a ****ing emergency. Good thing you'll never be about to give birth and be stuck outside on a cold winter's day with a 2 year old, unable to call for help because your money's indoors and there's no-one around to offer assistance then, isn't it? You cold, harsh individual - where's your compassion
John Boy Saint Posted 19 December, 2008 Share Posted 19 December, 2008 (edited) Pounding along the nations roads for 40,000 miles a year I have called 999 a few times having just seen an accident, or kids crossing the M3 at Camberley just as the rush home is starting (A Darwin award waitng to happen!). The most memorable occaision was after passing a Propane gas cannister trundling the wrong way down the middle lane of the M11 en route to seeking its fame and fortune in the Big Smoke....................... Now that would have hurt hitting that! Edited 19 December, 2008 by John Boy Saint missed a zero
Patrick Bateman Posted 19 December, 2008 Share Posted 19 December, 2008 Only twice, thank goodness. Once when two cars over took me on the A31 past Ringwood (I had 2 passengers otherwise that wouldn't have happened ) the second car was tailgating the first car, once past me tried to undertake, but the first car pulled in. Hence second car had to take evasive action, hit the edge of the road and flipped multiple times right in front of me landing upside down. Therefore; emergency services were called ASAP. Second time was an ambulance for me
the stain Posted 19 December, 2008 Share Posted 19 December, 2008 Last time I called 999 was... I was walking home in Winchester, slightly stoned, trundling down the hill towards the Records Office (tall, many-balconied building outside the train station). Me and my friend saw some lads up on the top balcony, ****ed and larking about. Then one of them toppled over the side and landed on his back on the pavement. (I thought his brain had fallen ot, but it turned out to be his shoe). Once I got to him, I saw he was out cold with blood pooling out of his head, so I called for an ambulance. With the hospital only about 10 minutes walk away I expected a quick response, but 20 minutes later phoned again. After half an hour the bloke woke up and started trying to get up. Fortunatley at this point a police car came past, quite by chance, and they took charge of the situation. I hope he didn't die.
