Looks nicey nicey football, stop these little flick ons, frustrated.

Get the ball in the net! Its called scoring a goal.

I know you're on a wind up, but there is a weirdly high number of people at St Marys that love to shout 'get it f****g in there', and love to throw complete disregard to the way we play these days.

We do fanny about once the 18yrd box homes into view, friggin well light one once in a while, a deflection will get you a goal or at worse a corner.

Hardly anyone is in a position to get a clear shot at goal anymore, too much emphasis on our forwards pulling wide. So naturally in an effort to keep possession instead of wasting it by shooting at a crazy angle we just lay it off...one of the downsides to playing all 3 of Lallana, Ramirez and Lambert. When Rodriguez is out we either need to play Gallagher who is more attack minded, or get Lambert to play as he used to - attacking the ball at the far post etc.

We have our fair share of speculative shots from distance, that's not the problem. It's shooting once we've worked it into the final 20 yards of the pitch.

Thats not the way we play or try to play, we should have a shot a bit more often, but the rest is irrelevant.

It is this, essentially if we have the ball then the other team needs to work hard or break rank to get it off us. Cardiff though were happy just to let us play with it.

We tend to struggle with teams like that as we will keep probing and they will keep holding their lines.

IMO in those situations we need to take a few more risks, hit some long shots or get wide and hit hard low crosses as opposed to floated ones.

If I'm honest I'm not sure what our solution is. We obviously missed Rodriguez today, but should have had enough creativity all told. I personally don't think either of our full backs give us enough end product, relative to the demands put upon them in such a system, but it is a big ask from them.

The thing is, most games we're having a high number of attempts, just failing to convert. I still think one of the main issues is a lack of goals from midfield (Davis, Cork, Morgan, Schneiderlin, JWP). We have been too reliant on J Rod, Lallana and Lambert this season

Normally when we play our possesion style , then its done at pace with lots of movement. We did this yesterday, for the first 20 or so mins. Then after that we got frustrated and had no penetation with our passes.

There wasnt the movement or creativity there and the pace was rediculously slow. Made it easy for Cardiff to defend.

Yes Jay would have given us some speed up front , but yesterday we did end up fannying about with it too much.

Agree that we need a MF that dares to shoot from outside the area. Mix it up a bit. Cork & Morgan dont do shooting. Hmm.

An early goal would have changed all that. BuggerMeSideways!

Watched Davis lay a 20 yard ball back yesterday when we were 1-0 down and he was unmarked in their half of the pitch. Knowing when to cut out this sort of negative rubbish is half the battle.

Yes, this is a common feature of our play. Often the midfield player has plenty of space to turn and look upfield but it seems to be trained into them that they should lay it straight back. Davis put in a great shift of work yesterday but he's not the sort of player you need when you're chasing a lead. To be honest I thought Guly looked very slick when he cam on for a few minutes with a couple of enterprising through balls.

Definitely lack of goals from midfield is an issue, but just how many real "attempts" were there yesterday which could have troubled their (excellent) keeper? Apart from Gallagher and Clyne late on, there were very few real efforts especially in the 2nd half. The stats dont tell the full story

Davis was excellent I agree. It changed when he was asked to play further. He then reverted to what he used to do a lot in games earlier in the season, playing highly defensive backward passes without looking for a better forward opportunity
