Rickie has to start as he's our only option. Gallagher isn't ready.

The squad isn't good enough and we're not able to replace Jay Rodriguez, in fact we're not able to replace any first 11 attacking player if they get an injury. Pretty pants really.

This. We've got decent craft and guile, but no-one with the pace to make runs in-behind.

A win on current form? 2 losses in a row?

A **** draw on current form.

Villa need the win 10 times more though. If they lose this, they are in serious trouble. But I think they'll win. Saints don't have anything to play for, limited options now. Roll on next season.

I'd consider a draw as a decent result actually if we have to play Gazza in goal again.

Getting the impression that this season just needs to end.

Well, Villa will have to go for it as they need the points; that will leave space for us unlike Cardiff, and hopefully lightning (Delph) will not strike twice! Villa clearly missing Benteke a lot, more than we miss jay Rod.

Ron has acquired a billet for this tourney and will be in attendance, it therefore follows that without one single shadow of a doubt, a comfortable victory is assured.

We will lose this...probably 2-0. We are rubbish in front of goal and very shaky in defence...nobody wants an injury so tackling will be soft. Yep, its another one of those woulda shoulda games.

Think we'll get at least a draw there, they need to really go for it to relieve pressure on Lambert so we should aim to hit them hard on the counter.

Think we should either play Lallana on the left like:

Lallana, Davis, JWP

Lambert

Or we gamble and play youngster Omar Rowe on the left and leave Lallana playing in the free role.

Does Rowe even train with the frst team ? Don't remember seeing him on any of the galleries. I think we can be sure that if you're not training with the first team you'll not be part of it at any time soon.

from another website

The alleged rumour doing the rounds is that prior to the recent Fulham game there was an argument between Culverhouse (assistant manager) and Cowans (youth-team manager) regarding giving some of our youth team a run in the first team - this is something that Lambert has barely done, if at all, in his time at the club, despite our current batch of youngsters being quite highly-rated.

Agbonlahor and Delph backed Cowans in this argument, basically saying Cowans is an AVFC stalwart and that Culverhouse should basically shut the **** up because he knew nothing about the club. Lambert sided with Culverhouse and fined Delph/Agbonlahor and then dropped them for the Fulham game (which we subsequently lost).

There's likely a link between this and the suspensions today. Karsa allegedly has previous for leaking information to fan message boards (eg breaking the news of Kozak's broken leg before the local press did, which upset quite a few journalists).

althought the suspensions seem to oppose what the rumour is.

Oh great....

After Cardiff beat us Solskaer cited a 'siege mentality' helped them win after their "issues" from the previous week galvanised them. So, knowing our luck, Aston Villa will have a similar reaction against us at the weekend.

Christ, I'm starting to sound as down in the dumps as Alpine.... ;)

The club seem to be having difficulty selling Villa tickets. There has definitely been an end of season anticlimax ever since Poch's poor attitude to winning cups. That has been a financial misjudgement. Not to mention misunderstanding supporters' aspirations.

The question is, can we, the players and MP be arsed enough to defend our 8th place?

Could also be an Easter Weekend at a sensible time of April, the weather is cheering up, (Sunday and Monday look crap) many folks having 4 days off and Saints playing away: let's go and do something else.

i am going to this one, i am not in away end with u proles tho i am in corps rubbing with the big nobs, cos i am v.connections :toppa: In actual fact day after i had agreed to go corps with one of my top top connections, i was offered ticket in press box. That would have been even more lols! i would've spent game shouting coded secret messages to tokyos over radio broadcast

hope i'm wrong here but i can't see us pick up another win in the remaining games. Jay Rod is a massive loss and one we can not fill at the moment. I can't see Adam, Rickie or Luke risking injury so close to the world cup now especially after seeing what happened to their team mate and to be honest that goes for the rest of the players that may have world cup aspirations.

We've always struggled to sell 3k for an awaygame further than London, still sounds like good numbers sold for Saturday so can't complain.

Jordan Sibley just went "favouriting a tweet?!" when a journalist suggested that the Luke Shaw transfer situation had "developed" due to his Twitter actions.

Mauricio says that if Luke Shaw came to him to say he wanted to leave, MP would say "Talk to the club, talk to your owner."

Posted (edited)

MP expects Luke Shaw to be here next season...."Yes, he has a long term contract, so I expect him to stay here" (or words to that effect, although he's not going to say anything else really, is he?)

If Gaston is out then I would play Lambert and Gallagher, with Lambert deeper and Davis and Lallana supporting.

If we have Lambert up top with JWP, Lallana and Davis behind we'll be slow and predictable. Having said that, Villa are rubbish at football so that might still be good enough.

Poch basically defering questions to the Owner, but what can he really say apart from what he has?

The only way any rumours would stop is if Shaw, Lallana, or whoever, came out and said they won't be leaving, which Shaw certainly won't do, and Lallana unlikely to either.

In fact Mauricio looked totally hacked off about answering the same unanswerable questions week after week. Didn't even seem to be au fait with the suggestion from the Krueger interview yesterday that there was any reason to fight to keep him here, then again perhaps he was just playing dumb. Krueger needs to clarify why he needs to "fight to keep Mauricio here" when the guy has a year left on his contract.

Krueger doesn't need to clarify anything. He just needs to get the contract signed.

That would do the trick yes, can't be that difficult really. New 3 year contract, more money and 35 million and the wherewithal to pay new players.

“Every game is going to be different and this match is also going to be the same,” Pochettino told Saints Player..

Fair enough

I'd be tempted to go with a back four of: Clyne - Chambers - Lovren - Shaw

It might not work but I can't see much else we're going to achieve this weekend.

Why? Is Fonte injured? Lets replace good solid dependable CB who teams up well with Lovren and covers up some of his frailities, by playing a RB/CM youngster as a makeshift CB. WTF are some people on these days? Fonte is also one of the smallish band of players who also coudn't give a feck about the WC.

Looks like Jake Flannigan was training with first team today. I wonder whether there will be a couple more senior debuts before the season ends?

Mauricio puts them on the bench, probably just to please Les Reed, apart from Gallagher they don't ever play. I mean last week we

brought on Guly, Clyne and Gallagher, the rest are just there to make up the numbers.

Don't know whether it's just because of Les Reed - Poch gave a ridiculous number of debuts to youngsters at Espanyol, though that was partly through necessity.

I thought that his experience of coaching youngsters was one of the major reasons we went for him? Cortese said as much in interviews.

That said, not sure why the likes of Guly and Jos are on the bench at the moment. They don't offer much and they'll be gone at the end of the season. Would much rather those places go to the likes of Turnbull, McQueen, Rowe, Flannagan etc., and give them some game time.

Nothing wrong with Fonte at all. He is however in his 30s and one of the players we will need to replace in the next couple of years. Seeing as how we have very little to play for it might be worth trying, just to see if he is a viable option there.
