Saint_clark Posted 12 April, 2014 Share Posted 12 April, 2014 For a lot of stadiums there's no alternative but to stick those in wheelchairs right at the front, which obviously isn't ideal. Creating a disabled viewing area like we have a St Marys wouldn't just mean ripping out seats, you'd have to somehow level out the steps (not even sure if that'd be possible) and then figure out a way of getting them up there. They show an example picture of palace - how exactly would you get someone half way up the terrace in the first place? The only way it would be possible would be rebuilding the whole stand, surely? You can't knock out part of the terrace to build an elevator without compromising the structural integrity I would imagine. It's a bit harsh to blame clubs for not catering to disabled fans properly citing modern day regulations when most of these stadiums were built decades ago. trousers Posted 12 May, 2017 Share Posted 12 May, 2017 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4499180/Southampton-wear-special-shirts-Man-United-clash.html Southampton will wear special one-off shirts for their game against Manchester United on Wednesday to help highlight discrimination against disabled people at football grounds. The Saints will swap out their usual sponsors, Virgin Media, for disability charity Scope in the game at St Mary's on May 17. The move has been backed by Virgin, and spokesperson Brigitte Trafford said: 'All football should be enjoyed by all fans, plain and simple. Fans are the heart of football and that means disabled fans too. 'It's time for change. In football and society, disability discrimination can and should be a thing of the past.' 'It's great to see football teams like Southampton FC highlighting the issue, with the support of Virgin Media who've donated their shirt sponsorship to Scope for this match. The rest of the football industry now needs to work together and kick disability discrimination out of the game.'
