Schneiderlin - Huge summer for Saints board

Champions League hasn't really been mentioned, top 6 does seem important though; "He said: “If they say to the main players and to the gaffer ‘Listen, we’re going to make you sign a long-term contract, we’re going to keep the main players in there, we’re going to bring in three, four, five more players to improve that squad to be in the top six’ then why not? "

Huh? I've lost you now.

With a few more signings, as I said above, there is a possibility that we may well progress and improve. Who knows, maybe with some astute signings and someone having a bad season we can crack top 6 next season.

Maybe Everton will struggle to replace those loans, and be hit by the extra games that comes with Europe.

I don't see his interview as a I want out, more I want the club to keep progressing as it has been doing.

Though, I have been labelled that awful term "happy", so I may well indeed be totally off (wouldn't exactly be the first time). Does make me laugh, ask any of my mates, and they will tell you I'm a miserable sod.

Does any player not want their club to progress? You really think that is just a regular, normal interview for a player to give? I think it's gone over your head a bit. I couldn't care less what any of your mates think of you to be honest.

No, of course they don't. Which is why, yes, I do think it is pretty normal. It hasn't gone over my head at all. I'm sure there will be other players at other clubs saying similar things.

Wow, sorry was just an aside. Just trying to be a bit light-hearted.

I think it's a fairly controversial interview for a player to give actually. Perhaps he's been misrepresented by the Echo, who knows.

Seems like he knows he has nothng to lose, either he helps his manager get a better deal and a better squad or he's out of here anyway.

Do our players usually give interviews to the Echo ?

As I said to Sour Mash, I really don't think it's that controversial what he has said.

It seems pretty normal to me.

Player wants to play at high a level as possible, with best team possible. Urges current club to improve.

That's how I see it. Opinions, eh?

His comments are good. Echoes the thoughts of all the sensible fans that recognise MP has transformed the team.

End of the day, if the new regime let him go then it will have been a disasterous start, regardless of any seemingly encouraging off field openness, away ticket offers and upheld complaints re Newcastle tickets.

There are a lot of things they (meaning the board) have to do and then we'll see.

How is that not controversial from a senior player? It is an ultimatum not a friendly word in the suggestions box.

Am i the only one who doesn t care about new our new found openeness, return to red and white stripes more transparency etc...

Its a résult driven business and ultimatly if the board fails with the on field issues, keeping pochettino and our best Players.

Then we will all regret Cortese going because he didn t let anything come out of the club except for our high ambitions which to was an integral part of what has been built here. All the Players and staff believed in it.

Now we as fans and Players don t really know what s going to transpire as we don t know the club s ambitions.

Well, we clearly aren't going to agree. I don't see it as an ultimatum, to be honest.

For me, he's not saying I'm off if x,y,z doesn't happen. He's saying the club has an opportunity to carry on the process of the last few years, and he would be disappointed if that was to fall by the wayside now.

I don't see the part of him wanting to be at a top club that surprising. He's a very good player, of course he is going to want to play at the top end of the table.

Anyways, I'm off for a drink now. So will leave this here. Have a pleasant evening, it's been nice discussing with you.

But that's exactly what he is saying, new contract for MP, new players to take us forward or I'm off.

Hard to be critical of anyone if they don't want to continue to sink money, substantial money, into a Champions League dream. I feel comfortable that the current regime are good people to own and run the club, with the right intentions. If we do drop off a bit, of course that would be disappointing, but it's always something that could happen.

I don't see why any fan wouldn't appreciate the greater effort into looking out for them?

LOL at your post being ignored.

Totally underlines the "play the man, not the ball" mentality around here.

I'm worried about next season. I was worried about this season once Cortese buggered off. However we won't know what next season has in store until this one's over and KL show's her hand so I'm not going to stress overly about it.

To be honest though half of you act like a bunch of bell-ends almost completely non-stop, so I wouldn't expect a raft of responses any time soon.

He's only saying what almost all of us are thinking - lose MoPo & some of our top talent will look to move on. If the manager stays & signs a new deal, it will show that we're still looking to progress & build on this season. Here's hoping it's the latter.

I met him a couple of weeks ago and had a brief chat with him about summer. Really nice bloke, but bit disappointing as a Saints fan as he said he will be listening to offers from other clubs in Summer. The overwhelming impression I got from him was that he's ready to move on and that not getting international tryout this season or last has bothered him a little.

Of course that's not to say that other players staying or going may have an impact on his own decision. If they all stick he may not want to be the only one to turn his back. Easier to be one of many etc.

Can't say I blame him. Sad if he leaves for that reason, because he really deserves a place in the squad for his Saints performances.

Thing is, all players listen to offers. Unless you're at the very, very top you're going to see what's out there.

We're at a crossroads; I actually think we're where Liverpool were last season (as we were un the early 80's?). We have a superb squad who want to take the next step, and it's in our grasp. Now it's up to the board to support the squad and the manager in taking the next step - it's actually cheaper to do that - employee retention and business succession anyone?

Why do so many assume they don't get that? Because if they don't, we may as well reconcile ourselves to another Rupert saga. I think they're better than that...and I may be proved wrong, I think they are better than that...

And if it's the former, we move on. Jeez. These things happen. Players, managers, they move on. So what? As a club we are in a great position. Progress! We are not looking to go backwards are we? I don't think Katherina will be looking to blow her investment. Consolidation is not a dirty word. Slowly, slowly catchee monkey.

We aren't at a cross roads. What a lot of you are not willing or able understand was Cortese can say what he likes, it was Katrina's money that was funding everything and without her backing all his talk was irrelevant. Kat Is still here, Nick nack isn't, the only thing that's changed is we don't have a psychotic dwarf running his mouth off and being led by his ego and we might actually start making a few quid from commercial income and local businesses spending their money with us rather than taking us to court.

Haha! You're whining about posts that haven't even been made now?

Those 4 posters in 15 minutes that separate your post from his totally underline whatever point it is you're trying to make.

:toppa:

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Also, maybe those dealing with the club won't overcharge to cover any possible client foibles/legal action/late payment.

Maybe the new board will be more concerned with growing the club rather than themselves.

With all due respect, I don't think we are at a crossroads, instead we are riding the crest of a wave! If we maintain our mid table position, then that will be an amazing feat given the competition in what is the richest and best league in the world.

And we are nothing like Liverpool were last season. They were sat on years of success and massive support earning about three times what we do. In fact their merchandise/commercial income alone was more than what we earned last year. There is no comparison.

In this dog eat dog world, players who excel at "lower" ranked teams will always get picked off by the "big boys" due to the money they can earn and the possibility of winning things and playing in the best teams in the land.

I would love it if we could keep our squad together, and would love it if this squad of players thought more about the Club and tried to break in to the top 6, but I'm also realistic that when the big clubs, big ££££s, European football and potential to win trophies come a calling, some of our players will jump ship. And when they do I hope it is done honourably and with us calling the shots with regards transfer fees.
