Pochettino's Future

This is exactly the same situation as last year with Cortese wanting the backing to push forward. My concern is everybody who has heard something is saying the same thing. No one has heard Poch is going to stay. I thought planning was go ahead for preseason and players were identified, so they must be aware of the budget. Maybe the press are making a mountain of of molehill and there is no problem as Poch said yesterday, he keeps saying he has one year left. I hope he stays but I cannot see it I'm afraid. Spurs are waiting in the wings. I was gutted when Adkins left, I will be gutted if Mo Po goes and I hope I will be gutted when the next one does, if I am I know we have progresses. If Lallana, Shaw and others go I am looking forward to who replaces them like Targett, Reed and maybe even Sims next season. COYR

If Mopo goes, how highly will criticism of his handling of the FA cup this season feature in his list of reasons ?

Right at the bottom.

It'll be that his mate Cortese did one with the platinum credit card, and he wants to go and blow some money about elsewhere.

I have heard from a source close to one of the first eleven that he wants to stay but wants a couple of things ironed out first, the most important being the never ending bellendery by certain SWF posters (see below)

If he is still here next week then that's will be great news.

He keeps emphasising the fact he has a year left on his contract so quite possible he will just stay until a better offer comes his way.

From Saints' point of view, if he is not signing a new deal and they know it then its a tough situation...

‘The fact is we have been fighting against amazing top clubs such as Manchester City.

‘In order to try to reach their level we need to have a major international budget resourcing and try to match them on their own terms.’

If that's his benchmark of expectations for the finance he wants then I'd suggest it's an unresolvable issue.

Peach was asked earlier what NC is up to these days and made a reply along the lines of pedalling paper talk against his former club.

Blackmore has said the same.

When someone asked Peach if the rumour was true, his response was "I don't think it's a rumour"

Very true krakster, Im not sure he is that unreasonable, its all brinksmanship isnt it. He wants a fair crack for next year. Its like every negotiation, my boss offers me 1k extra a year, I recommend 20k, we work from there.

Realistically though I guarantee this is what it all hinges on, and Ive not trusted the new friendly board since they came in. No money in Jan to prop up our push, why would they now ?

@Bradswag86 Pretty sure his camp are still feeding certain journos but I am not one of them
This should be: 'Simon Peach tweeted something similar earlier. I am going to make it look like I am in the know, but without actually disclosing anything new'

Been told today #thfc have been turned off de Boer by leaks in Holland leaving Pochettino as their top target #donmytinhat #saintsfc
I've read this multiple times in various newspapers over the past week. How is he getting away with peddling this as some sort of exclusive?

Some good observations of Pochettino in this little snippet from a general Premier League weekly review:

Pochettino is the shrewdest manager in the Premier League

Common wisdom has it that when it comes to "mind games" José Mourinho is Sir Alex Ferguson's rightful heir, but Mauricio Pochettino takes an entirely different approach to managing the demands of the British football media. Lob a question to Pochettino about his plans for the future or whether the club can, or want, to keep Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw or any other of Southampton's bumper crop of gifted players and (in the most disarming manner possible) his translator will give you the answer … to an entirely different question. By saying nothing, Pochettino avoids confrontation, takes the pressure off his players and also encourages more speculation, the "right" kind of speculation: rumours have it both that he will be headhunted "by a top club" and that he is about to sign a long-term deal on the south coast. Clearly, he's learned a lot from his chastening experiences at Espanyol. The news hounds could be asking why it is that Pochettino has managed it so that an 18-year-old former Plymouth trainee with one goal to his name is their only fully-fit striker while Dani Osvaldo and Emmanuel Mayuka have been farmed out on loan. But instead all the talk is of the bright future that stretches ahead. In his efforts to keep every detail under command, Pochettino is shrewd, charming and entirely ruthless. Scott Anthony

Nice to see MP reducing Cortese's "vision" to the pie in the sky bulls h it most sensible posters knew it was a long time ago.

Turns out we aren't going to magically qualify for the CL on the cheap with half a squad from the academy. Who knew?

(Everyone. Except that Italian and the forum intelligencia. )

I'm sure Franco, Wes and the others will be on here denying they ever said any of that as is usual. However You're forgetting two things

Man. moon.

Man. Everest.

I'll say no more.

perhaps if the reporter had done his research he'd know why Osvaldo is not at the club

I don't think you have to do too much research to know why Osvaldo isn't here. It's pretty common knowledge.

However, I don't see much wrong with the comment that we have a couple of strikers out on loan yet a dearth of available strikers actually here. Especially when it's not without precedent that some training ground bust ups happen without players being shipped out (Chico Flores this season for one).

Well to people who are not ItK on the subject may think MP was making a mistake. The reporting was lazy at best mischief making at worst.

Any reporter that knows we've still got Mayuka on our books has clearly done some research.

There's been various threads on here lamenting the fact that Sam Gallagher isn't ready for the Premier League yet, and why we're in a position that we have to play him as we have no other options. So it's entirely fair comment for a journalist to at least notice that the the question isn't even being asked of MP, as far as I'm concerned.

But it's not as Osvaldo was sent away due to the incident and MP hands are tied to a degree. I don't know the terms of Mayukas loan, he may not be allowed to be recalled. JRod injury was something that can't be expected and until Osvaldo had his spat we had plenty of options and so Mayuka going on loan is not an issue. I'm surprised Sharpe and Johhny quick were not also sited. It was a poor observation IMO

No-one is saying that Osvaldo and Mayuka should still be here; but in Osvlado and Mayuka we have nearly £20M worth of strikers out on loan. Yet despite that leaving only an untried 18 year old as the real backup to Rickie Lambert, no questions have really been asked in the press as to why we didn't bring anyone in to replace those we shipped out. A perfectly valid question that plenty on here have also asked.

It worries me to be honest that we did nothing at all to try to plug the gaps in the squad in january, we had a chance of competing that little bit higher with one or two players. Instead we stuck with what we had. It dissapointed me if Im honest and unfortunately I think it helped to breed unsettlement in the camp. Is there money to spend this year ? Commitment to improve ?

We rarely spend in Jan.

The exceptions were the first season where we had missed on the summer window due to the takeover and were virtually rebuilding from scratch; and the championship season where promotion was riding on second-half results.

MP's interviews at the time -Arsenal postmatch iirc- suggested we had lined up a signing, so our lack of activity might have had more to do with execution than intent.

While it's difficult to infer much from Jan, am still bracing myself for a tumultuous summer.
