spyinthesky Posted 10 April, 2014 Share Posted 10 April, 2014 A group of us were having a chat recently about our recent signings and the value for money they provided. Our initial thoughts were not too positives but once the detail has been examined it is perhaps not that bad, bearing in mind most clubs assume that the success rates for transfers in is normally below 75% For what it is worth here are our assessments of the current signings since entering the Prem. BORUC Cost - Free Value - Nil Rating 7.5/10 CLYNE " - £2.5m " - £4m " 7.5/10 LOVREN " - £8.0m " - £10m " 8.5/10 YOSHIDA " - £3.0m " - £2.5m " 6.5/10 MAYUKA " - £2.5m " - Nil " 0/10 OSVALDO " - £13m " - £10m " 3.0/10 RAMIREZ " - £12m " - £9m " 5.5/10 WANYAMA " - £10m " - £10m " 7.0/10 FORREN " - £3.0m " - Nil " 0/10 DAVIS " - £0.5m " - £1m " 8.0/10 RODRIGUEZ " - £8.0m " - £15m " 8.0/10 GAZZANIGA " - £1.5m " - Nil " 4.0/10 TOTAL £64.0m £61.5m So out of 12 players, four have proved to be real turkeys, although Gazzaniga is young and could improve,, six have been above average and two average. It would have been good to get more value out of our two bigger signings and not have to suffer the ignomy of the Forren and possibly Mayuka transfers but overall not too bad a performance

I thought we got our money back.
alpine_saint Posted 10 April, 2014 Share Posted 10 April, 2014 Would be absolutely delighted if we get 19m for the two wasters.
Lighthouse Posted 10 April, 2014 Share Posted 10 April, 2014 I would disagree on a fee of those valuations. Clyne - Easily £8m - He only turned 23 last week and is already a top Premier League RB. HCDAJFU for 10 years IMO. Lovren - £16m - Must have doubled his value, Red Nev was practically masturbating over him in the first half of the season. Davis - £5m - He is only 29 and is a decent Premier League midfielder. Mayuka - £1m - He hasn't been great but he isn't worthless. Someone will take him. Forren - £2m - I thought we paid £4m and got half of it back. Could be wrong.
pangy Posted 10 April, 2014 Share Posted 10 April, 2014 I will run through Pompey in a full Southampton kit if Gazzaniga ever "comes good" I suspect (hoping) he will be shipped off in the summer never to be seen again

We paid 2.7 million for Gazzaniga (I know I know nutjob price) Wanyama cost over 12 million, Mayuka over 3.1 million. Davis was 750K and JRod was 6.6 million or so. Forren cost us 3.5 millionish and we obtained about half of that in return, Lovren was 8 million euros with a 2 million euro add on, don't know the conditions that trigger that though. CB Saint Posted 10 April, 2014 Share Posted 10 April, 2014 If Boruc cost us nothing, then surely on a value for money scale he should be 10 /

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 10 April, 2014 Share Posted 10 April, 2014 Probably a bit misguided to try and attribute values to players as what they have contributed to Saints will count for very little, and it is far more important what they have done for us while they were a Saints player. On that basis Boruc, Clyne, Lovren, Yoshida, Davis, and Rodriguez have all been great. Wanyama only has half a season of work, Ramirez hasn't really worked out, and Osvaldo, Forren, and Mayuka have been bad buys.
