norwaysaint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 For a bit of pointless fun, how would you rank our current squad of players in terms of how important they are to the team. Kind of inspired by the realization of how much we'll miss JRod and also some comments about Shaw not being that big a loss because he's only a left back. so taking our current list of squad players, who's most important, at number one and down?
farawaysaint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1 Lallana 2 Fonte 3 Lambert 4 J Rod 5 Lovren 6 Shaw 7 Schneiderlin 8 Cork 9 Davis 10 Chambers 11 Boruc And I am distinctly unhappy with this list... That was damn difficult as everyone is important to how we play.
NickG Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Based on who we miss most, who's good / bad form effects us most and how easy to replace... 1) Lallana 2) Schneiderlin 3) Lambert 4) JayRod 5) Lovren 6) Shaw 7) Wanyama Davis 9) Cork 10) Fonte 11) Boruc Hard to include Clyne when Chambers so close. Saint Garrett Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1) Lallana 2) Boruc 3) Morgan 4) JRod 5) Lambert 6) Davis 7) Lovren Fonte 9) Shaw 10) Cork 11) Chambers/Clyne
matthewb Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1) Lallana 2) Morgan 3) Boruc 4) Lovren 5) JRod 6) Lambert 7) Cork Shaw 9) Davis 10) Fonte 11) Clyne/ Chambers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Jrod should be either 1st or 2nd. Our attacks are one dimensional and easy to defend against with out him. No one else will get behind the opposition defence. Some of you on here really underestimate Jrod's importance to the team
Hodgey Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Based on our current squad replacements 1) Lallana 2) Lambert 3) Boric 4) Schneiderlin 5) J Rod 6) Louvren Whilst the rest are all good players, they also have decent replacements, but whenever any of those 6 are out we seem to struggle (and if more than one of them are out we really struggle)
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Top 5 would be: 1. Lallana 2. Morgan 3. Lambert 4. Lovren 5. Rodrigues
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1 Lallana 2 Fonte 3 Lambert 4 J Rod 5 Lovren 6 Shaw 7 Schneiderlin 8 Cork 9 Davis 10 Chambers 11 Boruc And I am distinctly unhappy with this list... That was damn difficult as everyone is important to how we play. What's your rationale behind Fonte at second? And Schniederlin 7th?
Saints foreva Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Boruc has to be up there considering who we have to replace him with when he's injured....
alpine_saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Ooo, tricky... Lallana Lovren Boruc Schneiderlin Cork Lambert Rodriguez Davis Shaw Clyne / Chambers Fonte . . . . . . . . . . Gashy Osvaldo
Saint Charlie Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Based on who we miss most, who's good / bad form effects us most and how easy to replace... 1) Lallana 2) Schneiderlin 3) Lambert 4) JayRod 5) Lovren 6) Shaw 7) Wanyama Davis 9) Cork 10) Fonte 11) Boruc Hard to include Clyne when Chambers so close. Boruc should be in the top 3.
Bearsy Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 we haven't won a prem game sans rodriguez since 2006
Ed Rooney Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1. Boruc - Only because we cant replace 2. Jay Rod 3. Ads 4. Lovren 5. Morgan 6. Lambert 7. Davis 8. Cork 9. Shaw 10. Fonte 11. Right Back (as both are great players)
Ed Rooney Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Jrod should be either 1st or 2nd. Our attacks are one dimensional and easy to defend against with out him. No one else will get behind the opposition defence. Some of you on here really underestimate Jrod's importance to the team This
John Boy Saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 we haven't won a prem game sans rodriguez since 2006 Thats a worrying stat Bear!! Better have 8 pints of Doom Bar before Saturdays game as an anaesthetic.
Cabrone Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Boruc Lallana JRod Lovren Morgan Ricky Shaw Cork Fonte Davis Clyne Not based on how I personally rate the players, just on how important they are to the team i.e. tactical importance and what the alternatives are.
Bearsy Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Thats a worrying stat Bear!! Better have 8 pints of Doom Bar before Saturdays game as an anaesthetic. oh i dunno if I'd go as far as calling it a stat cos i actually made it up. It might be true tho! I spose it is as MLG hasn't come on here telling me otherwise!
alpine_saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Amusing that not one of you has included Gashy. Except me, ironically. Speaks volumes.
Dimond Geezer Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Amusing that not one of you has included Gashy. Except me, ironically. Speaks volumes. What speaks volumes is you've highlighted your little 'joke', just in case anyone has missed it, although I think most were just ignoring it's churlishness. I feel embarrassed that I've even reacted to your pettiness.
the saint in winchester Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Boruc has to be up there considering who we have to replace him with when he's injured.... Exactly! Boruc top of the list. It is complete disaster if he doesn't play. Others a pity.
Royston Saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1. Boruc - Only because we cant replace 2. Jay Rod 3. Ads 4. Lovren 5. Morgan 6. Lambert 7. Davis 8. Cork 9. Shaw 10. Fonte 11. Right Back (as both are great players) I would have this all day long
Barry Sanchez Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 You are only as strong as you weakest link so I will go with Fonte
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 oh i dunno if I'd go as far as calling it a stat cos i actually made it up. It might be true tho! I spose it is as MLG hasn't come on here telling me otherwise! If '06 is right, surely it could be extended back to '05?
swannymere Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1. Lovren 2. Morgan 3. J-Rod 4. Lambert 5. Cork 6. Boruc 7. Fonte
farawaysaint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 What's your rationale behind Fonte at second? And Schniederlin 7th? I'm also unhappy with Davis at 9 and Cork at 8. Like I said I found it very difficult to make a list as I wanted to rank half the team in the top 5.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 I'm also unhappy with Davis at 9 and Cork at 8. Like I said I found it very difficult to make a list as I wanted to rank half the team in the top 5. The top 5 pretty much is half the team, isnt it?
farawaysaint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 The top 5 pretty much is half the team, isnt it? Fine fine smartarse, what I meant was I wanted to rank most of the team higher than was possible
alpine_saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 What speaks volumes is you've highlighted your little 'joke', just in case anyone has missed it, although I think most were just ignoring it's churlishness. I feel embarrassed that I've even reacted to your pettiness. Au contraire, I wasnt attempting to highlight my joke. Quoting oneself is pathetic attention-seeking. And I did not do that. I was genuinely pointing out that not one of the clappies who bang on about how fantastic he is actually view his contribution as being of any importance. Thats patently hillarious....
Doctoroncall Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1Lallana 2 J Rod 3 Lovren 4 Lambert 5 Boruc 6 Schneiderlin 7 Fonte 8 Cork 9 Shaw
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 Au contraire, I wasnt attempting to highlight my joke. Quoting oneself is pathetic attention-seeking. And I did not do that. Don't kid yourself, just because you didn't hit the quote button that is still exactly what you were doing.
igsey Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1. Boruc 2. Kelvin Davis/Jos Hooiveld (morale) 3. Lallana/JRod/Morgan/Lovren etc.
DuncanRG Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 The most important thing about our team is unity. I really don't think you can rank individuals like that, because everyone's game is boosted by collective endeavour. Especially for the academy boys!
diggers Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 If we were rating players we'd miss for next season if they weren't adequately replaced; 1. Lallana 2. Morgan 3. Big Vic/Cork 4. Borec 5. Lovren 6. JRod 7. Shaw 8. Rickie 9. Davis 10. Fonte 11.Chambers
Saintmike5 Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 I might have missed something, but who exactly are you guys all planning to replace Shaw with? We simply don't have anyone else who could do the LB job to anything like Prem level (I include Yoshida and Clyne in this). Based on how their loss would affect our current squad, or to put it another way the first names I go to look for when the match team sheets come out, I would go with: 1. Lallana 2. Lovren 3. Boruc 4. Shaw 5. J Rod 6. Schneiderlin 7. Lambert Everyone else kinda has a direct replacement but the 7 I've mentioned are very difficult to replace with our current squad.
Colinjb Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 1. Boruc 2. Lovren 3. Schneiderlin 4. Lallana 5. Shaw 6. Jay 7. Fonte 8. Rickie 9. Davis 10. Chambers

Coz you is correct.
Cascadia Saint Posted 8 April, 2014 Posted 8 April, 2014 For a bit of pointless fun, how would you rank our current squad of players in terms of how important they are to the team. As our squad / team stands this season, on how important they are to the team... (injuries aside) 1. Boruc 2. Schneiderlin 3. Lallana 4. Lovren 5. Cork / Wanyama 6. Lambert 7. J-Rod 8. Shaw 9. Fonte 10. Chambers / Clyne 11. Davis 12. Ward-Prowse 13. Ramirez 14. Yoshida 15. Hooiveld 16. Davies 17. Gallagher 18. Guly / Reed / Isgrove 100. Gazza. Definitely harder than expected to rank them!
david in sweden Posted 9 April, 2014 Posted 9 April, 2014 You are only as strong as you weakest link so I will go with Fonte I'd like to agree with that but I'd say Lovren instead. You need a toughie at CB, and although I agree Fonte has had many outstanding games...when he's good, he's very good, but on bad days - he can be b-...awful. IMO Lovren would be more difficult to replace.
TheCholulaKid Posted 9 April, 2014 Posted 9 April, 2014 Based on who I'd least want to leave in the summer: Lallana Lovren Schneiderlein Rodriquez Shaw Lambert Cork Boruc Chambers and then a few others

I based it on if they are sold rather than out with a long term injury/end career, I hope that's fills the missing something. So if Shaw leaves, do you think the shed load of money received would give Saints a reasonable chance to get a suitable replacement? At the end of the day any changes to the squad will impact the squad as a whole, not just the skills they have but the togetherness and trust etc the squad has developed over the seasons.
