Anyone who still doubts Lambos undisputed team value in Brazil needs to just look at how many of the above select list will also be there! Says it all about the man and some doubted he would last more than a season by comparing him to lumbering no 9's like Caroll and Holt. PS We could be the only team to have 2 members up there by the end of the season as Adam is currently on 9 and 9 (according to the prem league site although other sites credit him with only 7 assists)
Ohio Saint Posted 6 April, 2014 Share Posted 6 April, 2014 I'd venture to suggest that it it also harder to achieve this in the PL compared to other leagues due to the quality of the lower teams in the rest of the divisions.

Agreed a lot more goals and assists in La Liga and four members already in the club (only three PL players Sauraz, Rooney and Lambert)
doddisalegend Posted 6 April, 2014 Share Posted 6 April, 2014 (edited) Great player, shame how many saints fans seem happy to turn on him as soon as he goes two games without a goal, even worse were how many said selling him to West Ham would be good business. On another note how sad is it that Gareth Bale won't be at the World cup? It's amazing that such a great player will (probably) never play a major international football tournament. Marsdinho Posted 8 April, 2014 Share Posted 8 April, 2014 Weren't we supposed to be interested in Firmino at one stage? As for Gareth Bale, I guess he joined Real Madrid as he felt winning things a club level was more achievable than at International level.

This is why I don't buy the whole you can never be a great player unless you do it at the World Cup argument. What if Messi, Ronaldo (either one), Pele, Maradona, George Best etc were from Kazakhstan or the Faroe Islands, are they therefore lesser players as they are unlikely to ever get to an international tournament, let alone star in or win one? Great players should be judged on what they do on the pitch, not the accident of which arbitrarily sectioned off piece of land they happened to pop out into. skintsaint Posted 8 April, 2014 Share Posted 8 April, 2014 He would be great in the hole, but as your main striker 7 goals in open play in the league this season isn't too great, he has missed some sitters this season. Next season would love for him to be behind a new main striker as he does create loads of chances. Probably get slagged off for this opinion but meh. corky morris Posted 8 April, 2014 Share Posted 8 April, 2014 Those stats show just how good he has been. I find myself focusing on his lack of pace recently forgetting how important he really is. Fair play Mr Lambert - another excellent season!

No Italians? Ok, no Turkish, Scottish or Irish player has scored (just) 10 goals and assisted in another 10? Taking nothing away from Lambert, but there was a time when we had players who would score 20+ in the top league (while we are struggling sometimes). The only real decent strikers in the Prem are Suarez, RVP and Rooney, because they are the only ones to knock in 20+ goals a season on season. Once SRL can start doing that, then we can try and cream our pants by putting him alongside the likes of Messi and Ibranimovich.

One thing which is noticable is that goals are often shared between teams more now than they used to when there was often the big man/little man focal point to attacks. Strikers are used in a different system now and are required to bring others into play, often playing on their own. To say that there are only 3 decent strikers in the PL is a bit odd. In fairness the only reason his goal tally is so low is because he drops deep and looks for the pass rather than the shot. Loads of times he's headed the ball back for someone at the back post when headers in that position used to be where a lot of his goals came from. Le tissier, Wallace to name two. So when I say decent, what I mean is strikers thatcher on year guarantee 20 goals, Augero I missed tbf, but players like Benteke have a good season, then poor, then maybe good again, bit like Giroud. Actually in his entire career Rooney has only scored 20+ league goals twice (09-10 and 11-12 seasons) in all the other seasons he has scored no more than 16 goals and usually around 11-12 goals a season mark.
