Lambert back to his best

Has been much better since his Norwich goal. Was the best player on the pitch in the first half yesterday linking play threading great through balls. Great to see and without Jay he is going to be an important player from now till the end of the season. Certainty to go to the WC now for me too.

Is it 11 league goals now and 10 assists?

Does that not in itself indicate he has been superb all the way through the season? For example Suarez is the only player with more assists than Lambert in the Premier League, and 11 goals makes him the 11th top scorer in the league.

No it doesn't. Watch a game rather than hide behind numbers. Next.

If you think he has been superb all season, you're more deluded than I thought.

...I'd prefer to say, ......showing (very positive) signs of his old self......but as his best (if counted in goals).... was in his L1 / Championship days, although he did very well to hold form last season.

Of course (at 32)...he's not as sharp as he once was (and he always lacked real pace), but nowadays he has more skill and guile than we saw in 2009 /10/11.

He will find it increasingly difficult to last in 95 minute games, but I can see MP (and hopefully Roy H), using him as an " impact player " coming off the bench in future games.

Quite ridiculous that people were saying he was past it a few months ago. Sure, he had a poor spell of form but thats the same for every player. It's the sign of a quality player when they can still get 10 assists and 11 goals at the top level when they're old and past it. Would love nothing more than to see him get some game time at the World Cup because nobody deserves it more

I believe he was carrying an injury earlier in the season (back) and this contributed to his lack of form.

Quite likely, I was thinking the same myself.

But at 32, he's surely at his peak...but for how long?. He's signed a 3 year contract extension a while back, but his game is not likely to improve much beyond this point...not as a front line striker anyway.

I could see him in a midfield role of some sort...(Alan Ball could still turn it on at 36, as did Terry Paine in his day)....but if JayRod's absence is a long one, it leaves us without any other experienced strikers.

SRL a far better player than Carroll will ever be

It is funny how out of one side of our collective mouth we emphasise that Rickie is so much more than just a target man and that Carroll and Lambert are incomparable players. Yet on the other hand as soon as Lambert has a decent performance we're desperate to tell the world how much better he is than Carroll.

Still, having said all of that, I was very, very impressed with him yesterday. I've been one of Rickie's harshest critics this season but he had a great game yesterday.

Having said that, it is a cast-iron certainty that we will not, and can not finish higher than 8th next season if we don't improve on Lambert as our central striker.

I have always been a fan of SRL I like his alround game he he good play maker scores goals holds the ball up . Yes I would have liked a few more goals but I think to be fair his form dipped after the arrival of osvaldo and also after England selection.

But he is still and excellent player

I do agree we need another striker for next season and possibly two GK

We play a fluid front four, so we need to get another striker, but its not a matter of improving on Lambert; its

about increasing our options, perhaps a Hernandez type of sniffer in the six yard box striker.
