Cardiff Build Up Thread

dangerous game

Certainly has Banana Skin written all over it, if we come out of the traps on fire like we know we can then it should be smooth running once one goal has hit the back of the net. But the seeing how they dug in V WBA and no doubt wounded by last weeks mauling at home we might find out if they have any character left in the tank.

Really looking forward to this game. Slightly concerned with the injury to jay rod and how that's going to effect our pace going forward and wing play. That being said I'm confident enuf with gaston coming in and would play him in his best and favoured position and we should be ok

Cardiff have IMO not actually played that badly this year. But they have just let too many goals in. If we can get a early one I can see a easy 3-1

Gaston

Davis

Lambert (free kick) :)

MP said at the press conference that Boruc and Ramirez "will need to be assessed ahead of tomorrow's game" so not totally ruled out....?

When they need to be assessed they usually are out. But not always.

Ramirez always seems to pick up knocks at the times when he would be most useful.

This is a tough game for Cardiff, who are one of those teams to have changed their manager and gone for somebody with no Premier League experience.

Southampton have had an excellent season and they will be looking to finish strongly, particularly at home.

Jay Rodriguez's injury is a blow, but Saints have a lot of quality in their squad and I see them winning this game quite easily.

Cardiff will battle on until they are actually down but I think they are almost gone.

Their performances have not actually been that bad but they cannot get the wins they need, and the amount of goals they let in clearly doesn't help. Only Fulham have conceded more in the top flight.

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Wow. Don't take that as the view of all saints fans.

Tan owns the business but a football club is a little more than that. He certainly doesn't OWN the fans nor do they owe him - he certainly has not run the club for their benefit, it's been a vanity project from day one.

There's an assumption the Cardiff fan 'loved it' but, unless you know him personally, not sure you could really know that. He could have been sat at home wishing Cardiff were run by a bunch of fans and scraping to build something over a long period of time.

That's right....I was against the re-brand from day one. People need to remember that as a club we were in a financial mess. It wasn't as simple as Tan saying 'go along with what I want to do and I'll get you Premiership football'. There has always been that emotional blackmail along the lines of 'Go along with what I want or I'll pull the plug and then you'll be facing financial ruin.' The hardcore support never wanted the Red kit, they despise it and always have. I think even the most 'mild mannered' of fans have now woken up to the mess that we have become. (as I wrote earlier on, the rot really set in after the sacking of Ian Moody, who is now doing superb at Crystal Palace) If we could get back to playing in blue and being financially secure, at least not facing financial ruin, then I for one, would be happy playing in league 2 and I think most would go along with that. The way we are playing now that might happen anyway! A lot of us think that we could well struggle in the Championship.

Pretty sure there is also a sighting of Guillermo Ruiz-Ramirez in the gallery which is interesting. At least there is someone I haven't seen before who looks Mexican.

All I can see that might be different is one player without a number with his back to the camera. Must have missed any Mexican looking blokes.

Jones is expected to be out (peeing blood after last weeks game)..No one at this stage knows the team and what frightens Cardiff fans is that Ole probably doesn't even know yet either  (perhaps Ian Moody from Palace knows)

Hi Bloo,

I would just like to reiterate Upwey's words. There were a few Cardiff lads working at SMS in the Summer and they were good blokes.

They did say they would have six points off of us this year but that's not working out so well.;)

I honestly thought that you had a good start and would have been fine, if you would have stuck with Malky.

The red shirts thing?

Get rid of Tan.

He doesn't care about the club or the fans IMHO.

Which ever league you are in next season, I wish you well, and thanks for posting.

Sad to hear that pal, let's hope the mighty Saints can do it for him.

Lots of statuses about Gazza on the Saints FB page, he must be playing which means this game will be harder than we think because if they have a shot on goal then we'll concede....a truly terrible keeper.

I dunno this is one of the few teams he's kept a clean sheet against...

Disastrous we have the clown in goal again. Downgrading to draw

We beat Cardiff 3-0 on Boxing Day with Gazzaniga in goal and no Lovren in defence. Gazzaniga didn't have much to do which should be the case again today. Saints should dominate possession, cut off supply to Cardiff's lone forward and leave Gazzaniga with hopefully little to do. Plus Lovren will be playing this time, when he wasn't on Boxing Day against Cardiff.

Gazza made some good shot stops against city.

A couple. But his saves to shots ratio over a decent number of matches shows he isn't good enough at the moment.

He doesn't dive with any conviction and makes poor decisions.

He might be a good keeper in a few years but needs to play every week and learn his game.

So if we lose, it's lovren's fault? To MLG you MLG, we are not playing Cardiff on boxing day, we are playing them today.
