Whitey Grandad Posted 28 April, 2014 Share Posted 28 April, 2014 I'm all for Sunderland being relegated. Here's hoping the other clubs at the bottom try to make something of this, and quickly. Can't they just relegate the lot of them? Let's have a clear out, cut out the deadwood, I say.
skintsaint Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 Oh I see the confusion with the paperwork...according to the BBC he is actually our player!
PaulSaint Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 Well written article about it here: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/03/sunderland-face-legal-fight-points-deduction Quote "The lawyers also note that Poyet has admitted being surprised the punishment was not heavier, and that Sunderland's manager has stated publicly that Southampton should have been awarded the victory when Ji played in the 1-1 draw at St Mary's in August." Graffito Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 Having read the two articles in the Observer I can't see how the authorities are going to resolve this. There's been serious inconsistency in how the rules have been applied. Altrincham docked 18 points for a similar offence. It's a right mess. OldNick Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 I think when it came to light in the press it looked as though Sunderland were doomed and so little was made of it
The Kraken Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 With the rules being very vague in nature and using the words "may" and "might", there's actually a chance something could get done about this if the lawyers can argue that other similar transgressions have been dealt with more harshly. Sunderland a referring to some "technical error" which showed the player was actually registered, but you could also argue that that is no excuse, and it is their responsibility to get it right. The lawyers will have a good old bun fight with this one. I imagine the PL are praying that Sunderland finish 4 or more 4 points clear.
WealdSaint Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 I think there was mention in the Guardian Article of us gaining 2 extra points. Not that would hugely affect things unless we batter Man U 6-0 0n Sunday
ART Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 It's not double standards at all. Check out post 32 and 33 to see why or just ignore the facts and keep talking nonsense if you wish. Well it looks as if I might get to have the last laugh yet and be proved not to be talking nonsense. Cardiff for one, with a Malaysian chairman, would always try anything to avoid the drop. As OldNick points out, at the time, Sunderland were thought to be already relegated, but now it's a whole new ball game with 90 million involved if one of the clubs relegated can get Sunderland hauled over the coals and relegated instead of them. Sunderland will need to get maximum points and even then we don't know what the total of any eventual deduction might be. Foreign ownerships seem to have added further spice to the end of season. They are different authorities, the EPL governs action in its own league and FL in theirs, thats part of the problem IMO. Both should have equality in punishments but it always seems the FA is powerless to big Mr Scudamore

You wont get the last laugh and you were talking nonsense, just like the latest articles. Lets clear a few things up... When this first came out a month or so ago ALL clubs went on record to say they were happy with the punishment handed out. Now Sunderland are staying up they have decided to leak stuff to the press in a desperate attempt to have Sunderland docked points. The Premier League will probably laugh it off not least because they acted within their own rules. The case the article mentions about Altrincham but that's a completely different organisation with (I'm assuming) different rules. A decision has been made and all clubs have agreed to it. There will be no backtracking and even if there was then it's quite obvious the amount of appeals and legal work that would go into it would take it well into the new season so there would be no deduction. You should probably consider the facts rather than believing an article in the media that quite literally is just saying "Some teams who are ****ed are desperately scrapping around looking for a way out". Window Cleaner Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 (edited) Anyway with the way Sunderland are playing even them getting docked a couple of points (not that that will happen) will make no difference whatsoever. They've earned their survival, those who would moan about an ineligible player should have tried to do the same. dubai_phil Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 Only thing this does is make Cardiff Fulham and Norwich look like a bunch of Whingeing Idiots. IF they were so concerned why did they not protest back in December. I have huge sympathy for Sheff Utd over the Tevez affair but this one? Felt it was wrong at the time but they all agreed the decision so STFU to the 3 of them

SW5 SAINT Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 A few years back I seem to remember Wham fielded an ineligible player( Tevez) all season long , and escaped any playing sanction.
GAS Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 On the BBC Sports website : http://Www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26878545 Let the discussion commence...AFC Wimbledon have recently been fined and docked 3 points for fielding an ineligible player against Cheltenham, where he score and they won 4-3. So would it not be right that Sunderland were docked 1 point for the draw they got when he played?
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 4 May, 2014 Share Posted 4 May, 2014 He also played when Sunderland beat MK Dons in the League Cup. The League fined Sunderland but told them not to publicise things. Its always the cover up that does the damage.

So would it not be right that Sunderland were docked 1 point for the draw they got when he played? No, AFC Wimbledon are members of the Football League. Sunderland are members of the Premier League. Different organisations, different rules. Also different "crime", one was simply that an international clearance for a loan returnee had not been obtained. Most interesting thing here, if there is anything interesting at all, is that it was Saints' former secretary who was responsible as she had become secretary at Sunderland. Cardiff and Fulham at least are now so far behind Sunderland that a points deduction would not help them anyway.
