spyinthesky Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 31,360 Approx. 1,200 short of capacity BUT Sold Out Signs at Ticket office Appreciate there were a few hundred seats lost to segregation and perhaps not sold out in Hospitality but there were small blocks of empty seats in various parts of the ground so these weren't due to the odd ticket holder not turning up Wonder if anyone on here tried to but a ticket on the day and missed out? stevegrant Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 According to the online ticket system, there were 86 seats unsold (although 71 of those were single tickets in the family section, so presumably they're unable to sell those), so the vast majority of the shortfall will be in corporate. I'd be interested to discover what the club does regarding ticketing agencies - it's possible that they have acquired tickets either on a match-by-match basis or season tickets, but they didn't find buyers for Saturday. I remember the Man United game last season when the game had sold out two weeks in advance and yet there was a massive block of around 100 seats empty in block 5 - the club claimed they were ALL due to people simply not turning up, which seems somewhat difficult to believe. Window Cleaner Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 I've noticed that all the club's staff seem to get 2 STs included in their package now. So with about 250 staff that makes 500STs or so, do you think that they count those or just paying customers ?
Lets B Avenue Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 1200 short of capacity, but how many seats lost due to segregation and how many empty seats in the away section. The Itchen and Itchen/Chapel corner looked full for once.
Colinjb Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 Interesting comment on the shortfall coming from spaces in the executive area from Steve, it appeared to me that there while certainly not being 100% full there was a vastly increased take up of seats up there for the Newcastle game. You have to remember that the corporate section covers both the large seated area in the middle of the Itchen Stand and the corporate boxes. Pretty sure they didn't sell every box for the game, nor would every box have been full. In general, though, corporate sales have improved significantly since the middle of January. We sold the usual amount, and for whatever reason (hospitatlity, staff ST etc) the club don't seem to offer full sell outs at the moment.

I was more referring to the boxes. Just behind where I sit there were only a couple unoccupied. Compared that to the one that was usually used by the WAG's which was the only one in consistent use until recently.

Usually Newcastle would take block 43, this time we sold it out - good support from Saints.
alehouseboys Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 Newcastle took a fantastic following. The reason we hit 31500 is because of them tbh Was I at a different game then? They took a smaller allocation than available and there were plenty of empty seats in their section. 2k is still a very good following for that distance, we would know, we've played Sunderland away 3 times and been to their place too in the last few months. The only way they can take any credit for a 'full house' on Saturday is because they sent back so many tickets that were then sold on to our lot. This meant there were probably more Saints fans inside SMS at the weekend than at any other game this season.

Normal (i.e. non-corporate) matchday sales to home fans, in descending order, with total attendance in brackets, with 20,415 season ticket holders: Hull City 7,414 (30,022) Newcastle 7,400 (31,360) Manchester City 7,007 (31,229) Liverpool 6,417 (31,659) Tottenham 6,409 (31,455) Chelsea 6,392 (31,271) Arsenal 6,167 (31,284) Crystal Palace 6,137 (30,699) Fulham 6,105 (28,631) Norwich 6,092 (29,828 ) Aston Villa 6,004 (29,814) Swansea 5,654 (28,570) Stoke 5,626 (27,987) West Brom 5,483 (28,610) Sunderland 5,431 (29,596) West Ham 4,724 (28,794) Basically there are just over 6400 tickets available on a match-by-match basis, which is only increased when the away team doesn't take the full allocation of 3200. Tamesaint Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 It was the third highest attendance in the country on Saturday.
stevegrant Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 Attendances are calculated on the gate. There would be lots of people with tickets that didn't show up. These are not included in the days attendance figures. Staff ST's, if used are included in the days attendance figures. Not anymore, it's done on tickets sold these days. Downthe36 Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 Newcastle took a fantastic following. The reason we hit 31500 is because of them tbh. We sold the usual amount, and for whatever reason (hospitatlity, staff ST etc) the club don't seem to offer full sell outs at the moment. Eh? They took a small allocation and passed the rest back. The only thing of note from that was that we did a good job of selling the seats behind the goal for once, we usually struggle to sell these once a club passes back their allocation. I'll also echo what others have said, the corporate boxes looked busy Saturday for the first time in ages, someone somewhere has done a decent job sorting that out. saintrich Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 There is always a large row of empty seats in the itchen north that about 6 or 7 ticket office staff come up and sit in for half the game too.

There was a mother's day special in hospitality. Tea and cakes (and pink sparkling wine) rather than a full meal, for £95. You could have a private box if there were more than 6 of you. Chatting to a group of people who went corporate on getting back to Winchester on Saturday evening it seems there was more then just that going on, a definite push has been made to local businesses to get them in, the club are now being far more accommodating. so22saint Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 I had a ticket, but had childcare issues so tried to buy 4 in the family centre to no avail (on Friday morning the ticket office said that they had 43 left, all in the Northam). So didn't go...
Whitey Grandad Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 Just wish they'd do anything to avoid gaps behind the goal. Makes it look like a lower league game on TV and takes something away from every goal when you just see empty seats rather than celebrating (or annoyed) fans. Fans separation innit. Why does that matter?
