City Away Build Up Thread

I think this will be a big test for Saints. On the face of it, City have much more to play for than us but this may help us.

We can have a good go at them with little pressure on us to get a result. Let's be honest though, they have a cracking squad with some outstanding talent. Toure, Kompany,

Negredo Dzeko, Aguero, Silva. And that's just scratching the surface.

I hope we can play with the same style and intensity as on Saturday but against this City team that will be a tall order.

I'll go for 8-1 to Saints;)

Its an odd game really, so much riding on it for city they really cant afford to slip up against us yet we are playing for nothing at all. For that reason I can see city doing us in, though it should be a cracking game with our lads playing with nothing to lose. I am not going to lose any sleep over the result, just hoping to see our usual game and should cause them problems.

I think they will be to strong for us (no disgrace in that I reckon city have man for man the best team in the division). I went on a city forum to see what they were thinking about the game and was surprised how worried they seem to be about playing us :scared:

Thanks for sharing. They do seem somewhat worried about us which is a great compliment. Reckon this game with have goals in it but lets be honest they're a great side so we'll probably lose. Its nice watching a game with little pressure and our team playing such lovely football. The form of Lambert will key in this game and I'm pleased that he seems to be getting back to his best.

Can't wait to go back to the Etihad. One of the best games of my life up there last season.

Confident we can give them a real game again. Expecting some lovely football from both sides, and I think we'll do well on the ball.

We'll start strongly as always but in some ways I hope we don't score early on. City are the best in the league for getting their arses in gear from behind and we're the worst for giving up leads. Keep the ball, stay mentally strong and exploit space quickly and we might get something.

Stupidly tough game, must-win for them, no pressure on us, no shame in a big defeat there, so hope we really go for it, give them a scare. We can score there, no doubt about that. Want to see JRod and Lallana running at Demichellas every few minutes, panic him.

Wanyama in if fit, otherwise Cork and Morgan with Davis, a good solid 3 that know their roles. Probably lose but might as well go there and enjoy it!

agreed Wanyama, Morgan and Cork will match Toure and Fernindino. Victor is one of the few capable of sitting Toure on his behind

Was nice to see the oppo forum praising us,most of the bigger teams forums are very quick to dismiss us however they seem like we have the potential to upset them.

Would love to see us beat them but they are are a class act and I feel they will have too much for us

Amusing to see Man City 'fans' picking their preferred eleven and hardly noticing the irony of not a single Manchester player amongst them. Joe Hart, from Shrewsbury is likely to be the only English player in a team turning out in the shirts of what used to be an English football club and hardly even bothering to pretend that it still is. Message to Man City fans - you are supporting a foreign club with a foreign team, so why do its the results matter.....?.

Sad to see so many pessimistic posts over the Man C game. It is natural to worry that your team won't win - you can see similar worries on the Man City message board but being realistic, we have a very capable, very fit and very motivated set of players who have been coached to play at a high standard. It's hard to imagine City being any faster or more technically adept than were Spurs in last week's game but against that play, Saints went 2-0 up and lost mainly due to a fortunate goal for Spurs that changed the game. A push on Lovren and a missed kick by Clyne were the cause then, and of course similar things can happen on Saturday, but equally they can happen to the opposition. With two very good teams, which both Man C and Saints are, the result can go either way, but this is a winnable game if only because they will be under the greater pressure.

Cork played Toure off the pitch last time around, we'll need him to be on it again if we are going to have any hope of a result.

Morgan in for JWP, but otherwise same line-up as against the Toon. They have problems with our style of football (as evidenced in last three games) so I'm quietly confident of an upset. COYR!

Almost think it won't be ideal to go ahead early. But we just have to take our chances, we're capable. We played them off the park at home and that was with Gazza on goal, and Hooiveld and Fox I believe?

EDIT: team at home

25 Gazzaniga

22 Chambers

23 Shaw

6 Fonte

5 Lovren

16 Ward-Prowse

20 Lallana (Ramírez 85')

18 Cork

17 Osvaldo (Lambert 77')

8 Davis (Reed 90')

9 Rodriguez

Picking a possible squad is well and good, but lets get to the important issue at hand .... decent pubs!!

Not been to The Etihad, but guessing not much around the ground (or all home fans only), so Central Manc with decent tram connection maybe?

Should I wave my Emirates Air Miles Card at them and sing pro Dubai / Emirates Airlines songs at them?

There's bugger all around the ground but the travel links are pretty good all around town. Not used them to get to or from the Etihad specifically mind.

There are official bar areas outside the stadium but obviously it's a plastic cup, £5 pint type effort

I would start with Rickie on the bench. He was excellent against Newcastle but they gave him loads of space. I think he has more chance of making a big impact if we bring him on later in this one.

Back five picks itself. Morgan and Cork are no brainers. In front of them I'd have Davis, Lallana and JWP with Jay Rod upfront.

Lambert, Ramirez, Gallagher, Guly, Hooiveld, Reed and Gazza on the bench

Would be tempting but think Rickie deserves his chance personally. He's been playing much better last few games too. Think I'd start him but would understand if Poch decided to start without him.

I would start with SRL for this one personally. He is getting back to his best and is so crucial to our attacking play. JRod hasn't impressed me playing up front on his own yet.

I think Rickie will be up for this one this is his chance to help Liverpool win the PL. Having said that I kind of agree perhaps Gallagher up front he is pretty mobile and fast for his size so let him press and harry their defence to death and then unleash a fired up Lambert on them for the last 30.

We're not playing for nothing We are playing to maintain 8th place and then challenge for 7th.

But City have much more at stake, of course, so if we get ahead early they could get rattled and make mistakes.

COYR!

Rickie and all, we can do it!!

Drink in the city and taxi to the ground.

My team FWIW;

Boruc

Chambers

Fonte

Lovren

Shaw

Morgan

Cork

Lallana

Davis

J Rod

Lambert

Yep I would go with this as well. JWP will count himself unlucky to be dropped after last weeks impressive team performance but we need our best players for this game and Morgan/Davis/Corky are our best fit midfielders (assuming Morgan will be fit). Such a shame we wont get to see Wanyama v Toure this season would of been very interesting.
