Rasiak-9- Posted 30 March, 2014 Share Posted 30 March, 2014 Been debating this with a few Saints-supporting and non-Saints-supporting friends and it raises some interesting issues about where we are and how far behind those two sides we are in terms of making the next step, which is breaking into the top six and the Europa League . (I'm leaving United out of this just because they're somewhat of an anomaly at the moment and a club that we aren't going to be able to consistently finish above long-term. Everton and Spurs look like the teams we have to overhaul if we want to be who we want to be.) So. Spurs, Everton, Southampton. Make your best XI from the players at the above three clubs. Go. Glasgow_Saint Posted 30 March, 2014 Share Posted 30 March, 2014 We're not aspiring to be as good as them though are we? Olallana Posted 30 March, 2014 Share Posted 30 March, 2014 So have they kept up with us, despite having a much weaker/ lesser squad or have we slightly under performed this season? Or have they overachieved......I know, strange thing to say and think! And you know that picking the best XI is not so much about the squad.... Pardew agrees http://www.durhamtimes.co.uk/sport/11110384.Magpies_deserve_more_praise__says_Pardew/?ref=var_0 For them to keep pace with us despite the squad being much weaker is a huge achievement imho

KelvinsRightGlove Posted 30 March, 2014 Share Posted 30 March, 2014 Anyway.... Back on topic. The Saints/Everton/Spurs dream team? Shaw or Baines? I think right this moment Baines is better, but won't be for long. Shaw has the potential to be the better player imo.

shurlock Posted 30 March, 2014 Share Posted 30 March, 2014 (edited) We're not aspiring to be as good as them though are we? Nothing to do with aspiration. Neither Spurs or Everton -first-team wise- are that far ahead of us. No idea where this tendency to deify them comes from. Had we simply done better in our head-to-heads against them -games in which we should have got more and were ravaged by injuries- things would look much tighter. Squad depth is now another matter... teenagegsaint Posted 30 March, 2014 Share Posted 30 March, 2014 Krul Coleman, Lovren, Vertonghen, Baines Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Dembele Eriksen, Lallana Lukaku Wanyama is brilliant and was the key to our success early on in the season.
Verbal Kint Posted 30 March, 2014 Share Posted 30 March, 2014 Wanyama is brilliant and was the key to our success early on in the season. Turning into a bit of a myth this I think. The key was having a very kind fixture list and a fully fit squad. As soon as we started having tougher games and injuries/suspensions crept in our form suffered as a result. No real shock there

DuncanRG Posted 31 March, 2014 Share Posted 31 March, 2014 (edited) Lloris Coleman Lovren Jagielka Baines Schneiderlin Sandro Lallana Eriksen Rodriguez Adebayor Bench: Boruc, Distin, Clyne, Paulinho, Barkley, Mirallas, Lukaku Can't believe I'm the first person to mention Adebayor. Not sure why everyone's choosing Vertonghen as well. He's had a poor season by his standards, and there is an obvious alternative in Jagielka. Shaw only left out because Clyne can cover on both sides. Edited 31 March, 2014 by DuncanRG
