Been good this season, but for the amount of chances he always gets he could and should be higher up on that list. However take nothing away from the fact he is able to get into those goal-scoring position due to his athleticism, work ethic and off the ball movement. Just needs to be more clinical.

He makes his own chances though. Thats whats so great about him.

The toe-poke into the side netting? Good ball over the top but he needed pace, strength and power to shrug off Williamson, good ball but a lot of strikers still wouldn't have managed to do anything with that.

The header into the side netting? Again; good ball from Chambers but Rodriguez leapt up to ~8 feet in the air to win a contested header and bullet it down. No way was that a 'should have scored'. Was like watching Ronaldo that.

15 goals and playing on the left. He is a million miles better than Welbeck.

Yes but Welbeck plays for Man Utd, so obviously he is a much better player.

I'm taking the p*ss but rather tragically I think most of the England management believe this. JRod has got to be on the plane IMO but he wont be. Let's just hope Welbeck gets injured.

Could be an interesting last day of the season... our team spirit is widely known and it doesn't look like Fonte will be going to Brazil, hopefully he'll do everything he can to get his mate Jay there in his place by taking out Welbeck!

I'm hoping Hodgson takes 5 forwards: Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck, Lambert and Rodriguez.

If it was my choice as to who misses out? Either Glass Jack Wilshere, Sterling or Barkley.

Sadly don't think we will see more than 2 Saints in the final Squad, Lambert and Lallana. Lambert because he deserves to - he may not have scored as many this year but he contributes so much more... In addition he has that boyish infectious enthusiasm that makes a real difference in a squad. Adam is now a shoe in..... But inevitably, Welbeck, Sturridge and Rooney will be the other 3 strikers... Think Sturridge will do well, but most likely we will see the same Rooney.... Bad first game and then in a huff for the remainder of the tournament, trying to do everything himself and forgetting football is a team game.... And for some strange reason, Milner will go....

Shaw, I think will also miss out as Roy gives Cole a last ego trip...

JRod, should go IMHO, but will miss out Shaw, as Roy suggests they are too young and their time will come.... Just wish he would see benefit of talking them all, they play together, are on form and have the spirit that can take you a long way in tournaments - something we always lack with the 'golden' spoilt, rich generation that never seemed interested...

I may well be overly optimistic but I think Hodgson will see this benefit and will pick at least three Saints. The only one who may miss out for me is Shaw.

What did Einstein say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I think we are doing Roy a disservice, if I was him I would be using the heat and humidity angle to drop these older players like Lampard/Cole etc and promote youth into this world cup.

We did after all see the effect the young german team had in the last world cup where as against Algeria we were awful.

If Hoddle can drop Gazza then Roy can dump Welbeck.

I'm of the belief that we have near on no chance of doing anything at this world cup, so why waste the world cup with has-beens and players who won't be around for the next one? Use it as an opportunity to hand the likes of Adam, Jay, Barkley, Shaw, Chamberlain tournament experience. It's utterly pointless taking the likes of Cole, Lampard, Barry etc. It's a chance to blood some youth in one of the most anticipated world cups in decades, let's hope they see it the same way.

Jay Rodriguez- surely contender for player of the month? I don't think he'll win it, and apart from Liverpool game, goals against CP, Norwich, Spurs and Newcastle might make him a contender?

5 goals this month, all coming in those last four games :)

Welbeck has been good for England. He didn't earn his chance initially, but he did take it. Be odd to leave him out. Think he needs a new club though, should be playing every week and improving not getting rusty on the bench.

Wonder if he'd come here, unite the young England attackers. He and JRod could either play left on through the middle or switch. Could work very well.

I wouldn't say he has done enough to warrant a place in the squad in spite of players doing more at club level. He has 8 goals, half of which came against Moldova and San Marino.

Take a look at his goals this season. He has one against teams in the top half of the Prem all season, against Spurs.

I wouldn't take Lambert as I'm afraid he's more of a deep-lying support striker than the target-man people seem to think he is.

As such I don't think he'd be able to add anything really against decent opposition at international level. Rodriguez on the other hand should be third in the pecking order behind only Rooney and Sturridge.

Personally I think Roy wants to take JRod. He's a better version of Wellbeck

I'm not a fan of Wellbeck and find watching him play for England frustrating. He always seems to play in clown's shoes, and spend much of the time falling on his arse. That said, from Hodgson's perspective, Wellbeck has to some extent established himself in the squad, played in a tournament before, and in the Champions League level for his club. Rodriguez on the other hand made one indifferent appearance for England, and probably represents a greater gamble.Unfortunately I expect Woy will take the safer option of Wellbeck, if Rodriguez went to Brazil and "froze" the press would have a field day. .

This will sound harsh, but with the amount of chances he misses, he should have a lot more goals. Easily our most improved player this season, and the way he's been playing there's no reason he can't get to the 20 goal mark

Totally agree, there have been many occasions where he has tried to stroke the ball into the net, and even yesterday he probably could have had a hat trick before he eventually scored his first.

I expect Rodriguez will play for England many times in the future, but he seems more likely to be another Alan Smith (ex Arsenal) striker, than another Alan Shearer.

Couldn't agree more. Take a team based on youth. Not sure it will include Jay Rod though.

There is a lot of truth in what you say, but that's not Hodgson's remit..... he will be gone either after the world cup or after the euro's so there is nothing in it for him to do that.

Big, powerful, fast, brilliant close control. Agree with others, if he took more of his chances he'd be in with more of a chance. Also I don't think the way England play suits his style, he's best running on to long passes rather than the short range pinging about we seem to do. Getting better and better though. If he gets another 4 or 5 before the end of the season, and/or plays well against Citeh & Utd he might just edge out Welbeck (still think Roy will take him as for all his ****eness at club level he's been pretty good for England). Having said that, can't underestimate the advantage playing three club mates who instinctively know each others games would bring.

The thing that I love most about Rodriguez is that he is far from the finished article. He's good already, getting better all the time, and could be frightening in a year or two. Think how good he could become. That is exciting.

I'm sorry for being unsporting and all that but i'm desperately hoping that Welbeck picks up a knock as does Cole. Nothing serious mind, just enough to rule them out, sprained ankle will do. If so Luke and Jrod are next in line. I think Ads and Rickie are going to Brazil whatever. Rickie is way different to the other strikers and Adam is just in a purple patch playing his best ever footie...just keep it going son in the Brazilian sunshine and make us proud out there!

This.

Tournament experience with Euro 2016 in mind as we won't get beyond the group stage at this WC IMHO.

i reckon we're gonna win world cup + when we do the likes of S-Clarke & Berudenot2 will not be permitted to enjoy it because of their harsh words + pessimisms. They will be in football jail for crimes against ENGLAND

Can't rule it out completely though. Welbeck still has about 10 matches to get through. All of our hopefuls will need to turn in a good performance next Saturday though.

i dunno that Jay is really battling with Wellbz. Wellbz is going no matter what IMO, barring injure. I reckon if Jay is battling at all, he is battling with Sterling + Townsend for a squad place. Prob Sterling will get it tho.
