Just back from the game and what can I say? Top performance. The scoreline in no way flatters us. It could have easily been 4 or 5 at half time.

Artur: kicking was much better today and can't remember him having any significant save to make.

Shaw: Solid. Very consistent at the moment and today showed that he can really defend when he needs to.

Lovren and Fonte: won a few good headers, never looked troubled. One of the easiest afternoons they have had all season.

Chambers: skinned a couple of times in the first ten minutes and got heaps of it from Poch! After that he was great. A couple of cracking crosses and a real threat going forward. Took a couple of knocks in the second half but was immense. He is going to be some player.

Cork, JWP and Davis: bossed the midfield. Get Cork signed up. JWP has looked a little lightweight/off the pace for me of late but today had a much, much better game. Strong and assured and the usual great dead ball delivery. Davis: his usual workhorse performance, excellent again. Replaced by Morgan (hard luck Newcastle!).

Rodriguez: Two goals, chased everything down, tireless work. Should have had at least one more. Off to Brazil? Yes. Replaced late on by Big Sam.

Lambert: best game he has had for a while. Awesome performance. Put JRods first on a plate for him and scored himself. Standing ovation. Off to Brazil? Yes.

Replaced by Gaston.

Gaston: First two touches were awful but the pass for JRods second was brilliant and was rightly applauded by plenty of his team mates.

Which brings me to my MOTM.

Adam Lallana was everywhere today.

He was quite simply, a class above every other player on the pitch. Cracking left foot finish. He is worth the season ticket money all on his own and I haven't said that about anyone since MLT.

If he stays fit and doesn't go to Brazil I will eat my own pants. For me he is an absolute shoe in for an England start. Applauded off by a fair few of the Newcastle fans. He was that good.

All in all a belting afternoon.

I can also recommend La Tavernetta Italian Restaurant opposite the Civic Centre. Good food and a nice bottle of Rioja. Don't tell them I sent you though. I think the waitress is still blushing from some of the banter.;)

Happy days. Enjoy MOTD!

COYR!

I was worried first half we were playing so well but not scoring I feared Newcastle might re-group and do what spurs did to us ..................seems I didn't need to worry. Great result J-rod, Adam and Rickie are ****ing awesome when they are on their game.

Me too.. We created so many chances in the first 15 minutes I thought that we couldn't possibly keep that up for 90 minutes but we did! Newcastle had nothing to offer on terms of attacking so Boruc has a nice quiet day at the office. Everyone else ran their socks off and we thoroughly deserved at least 4, could have been double that.

I still don't know how J Rod managed to squeeze his second goal in. Have to wait for MOTD.

Brilliant game to watch as a saints fan. Best of the season.

I thought we were a joy to watch, other than our poor finishing in the first half in particular.

thankfully, j and rickie scored at crucial times and really at 2-0 it was game over. Against a better side we would have been punished for those misses. Newcastle really were appalling, I could see even from the huddles we wanted it more.

you can only beat what was infront of you though, it's hard to conceive they were above us though. That said they have had a couple of late goals which has papered over the cracks a little. Elliott made some amazing saves, but the others were a disgrace.

10-0 would not have flattered us, but can't grumble too much. If we can keep this young team and coaching staff together, we could create history.

Would love to see the Newcastle equivalent of this site today. Their defending was just comical. And it wasn't just a case of bad individual errors, the entire defensive unit was just very badly organised and left us gaps to exploit left, right and centre (literally:))

After today's performance I would be very upset if we didn't now finish above them.

MOTM - tough one to call, but I have to give it to J-Rod for his two goals and his persistent running. Newcastle just couldn't handle him.

Worst performance of the season from any team or best saints performance of the season

Rickie's goal equaled his league total of goals pre saints 2 more to have scored more in all comps not bad for an over the hill journeyman div 3 player ( as lots of experts claimed when signed August 09 )

Agree... don't we play some fantastic football to watch.. add some quality in the summer and we can be a top six side.

That was a truly excellent showing, but you do have to say that Newcastle were abject. I thought Norwich were by far the worst side to come to SMS a few weeks back, but Newcastle just topped that and then some.

But enough of them, and more about us. We put them to the sword from the first minute and after 15 mins some people were thinking it was one of those days, but I just knew we would score - a side cannot start as well as we did and lose the momentum, and it was true - the chances kept coming and we kept the momentum up all game long.

Jay Rodriquez would have had a hat-trick on another day, but their stand in GK had the game of his life against him - and he still had 2! Was a good game in general for the England contingent, who all played pivotal roles in the performance. Lambert moved them all over the place and the pace of Jay left them stranded time and time again. Lallana just took the **** most of the afternoon.

A very pleasing day and we are now above them and hopefully to stay - it would be fair reflection on the league, as in my opinion - we are the ''best of the rest'', which is an excellent achievement seeing as this is only our 2nd season back.

Shared this in the match thread at HT, but it's worth another airing as it really shows our dominance in the first half.

Newcastle improved in the second half, but it really wasn't hard.

That is truly ridiculous dominance. If I was a newcastle fan, I'd want a refund after that!

Absolutely brilliant today and just shows what a top Manager we have who is getting the maximum from some excellent players.

Absolutely have to keep Pochettino. Do whatever it takes.

Completely this. Some individuals stood out slightly but overall it was a completely dominant team performance.

He has got more from Lallana, Jay Rod, Fonte and Steven Davis than even those players probably thought they had in them.

I hope they have it under control re Poch, I really do.

Nah. Fulham were still by far the worst but we were brilliant today which made Newcastle look poor.

8th post down- Cortese avatar? Has he been linked with them?

We've supposedly had a lot of crap performances against us this season - Hullx2, Fulhamx2, Norwich etc, but at some point we could maybe just give the players some credit for being good. very good.

They were especially bad today though and their failure to keep an organized back line let JRod and Lambert beat the offside trap far more than would be possible most weeks.

most stuff on here last week was about how poor we were to let Spurs back into it, rather than recognizing that they are actually a better team than us who took a while to really get firing.

we rarely give credit for a win to other teams on here, preferring to slate our own loss, we can't expect other forums to treat us differently.

That was great. It was 4, but we deserved at least 5 and it could've easily been 7 or 8.

After those 8 changes in less than 30 minutes, I felt that things could've gone wrong, but we were very focused today and as a result a candidate to performance of the season. Not a single bad performer today.

Newcastle were terrible. Worse than Norwich as the Canaries had actually shot at goal before getting those 2 late goals.

I've just seen the BBC stats - 53%-47% possession? :o

More like 80-20 you clowns.

Let's see them try to dress it up on Match of the Day as if there were two teams on the pitch.

Yep, that was our general opinion down the pub afterwards. I may have another pint when I get off

this train to celebrate a great performance! Still buzzing.

Great performance and lets not forget we made Newcastle look shieite. A number of stand out performances throughout the team, so almost unfair to pick a MOTM.

Obviously winning 4-0 helps, but it really does look like this team are enjoying their football.

2 things I haven't seen mentioned so far.

Firstly, looked like their were two naughty challenges over the far side from where we sit (itchen), just wondered if anyone had a better view.

secondly, did Chambers tire a bit towards the end. Understandable if so, as still developing plus he was phenomenal in the first half pushing on and that must have taken a lot out of him (or did he get a knock??).

A knock? Cisse should have been sent off for his challenge on Chambers.

Chambers was one of the players on the receiving end of a nasty tackle, think it was Cisse that stamped on his leg (albeit [possibly!] by accident), so could explain why he may have looked tired or sluggish afterwards.

Very poor Newcastle side, IMO we could and should have been 3 or 4 up at half time if we had ended up winning by 6 or 7 it would not have flattered us noticed AP was gone from the directors box before the final whistle.
