Lighthouse Posted 26 March, 2014 Posted 26 March, 2014 Do you regard the abbreviation 'Man U' as being offensive to Man Utd fans? I've been chatting to some fans on another forum where it has been banned as it apparently an offensive reference to the Munich Air Crash. This was the first I've heard of it. I just assumed it was short for Man Utd and I've heard many Utd fans refer to their own club as 'Man U'. Not to mention Sheff U, Bristol C, Dundee U etc.
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 March, 2014 Posted 26 March, 2014 I've never heard of that. To me anything do do with them is offensive.
sussexsaint Posted 27 March, 2014 Posted 27 March, 2014 Well if its offensive to them , fair enough although I can't see how it can be a reference to the crash. I shall simply return to addressing them as: plastic, self important, delusionally entitled C**ts. Most of whom live south of Chipping Norton.
scotty Posted 28 March, 2014 Posted 28 March, 2014 When I lived in that general area, (stoke and newcastle under lyme,) I worked a fair bit in Manchester. Any football fan who didnt support them invariably referred to them as "The Munichs". For their part, the man u fans referred to liverpool as the "Hillsborough Orphans", and made a point of carrying copies of the Sun to man u/liverpool games. Dont know if thats still the case, perhaps BS could enlighten us.
scotty Posted 28 March, 2014 Posted 28 March, 2014 This made me chuckle. Remember when fergie stepped on the pitch and told the plastic "fans" that their job was to get behind the new manager and give him a chance, and got a massive round of applause? Well, here are the "fans" getting behind fergie's chosen successor. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26783751 I've always hated them, but for me that's just one more reason to.
Dark Munster Posted 29 March, 2014 Posted 29 March, 2014 If Man U is offensive to them I think we should respect that, and stick with ManUre.
