Others have tried and failed in their rehabilitation as is well documented. Claus must learn to realise that he owes it to his wife and kids to look forwards to new challenges rather than resent the fact that his past life as a star footballer exists now only as part of history. Good luck Claus in your battle and remember all Saints fans are with you all the way. Sometimes it is worth remembering who are the ones who really care about you.
alpine_saint Posted 26 March, 2014 Posted 26 March, 2014 I am also glad he has got his life back on track, but still my skin crawls at just how bad he was in the PL relegation season; for me he abdicated his reponsibilty as one of the clubs senior pros, which makes me wonder about the comment that the real problems starting after he retired.

Makes your skin crawl! Little bit extreme there Alps! There were a lot of players who went missing in that relegation season, but old Lukewarm was as bad as he could be, I'll admit. Very honest piece and it is great to hear he has gone a very long way towards conquering his demons. Good on yer Claus.

He is very lucky to have what sounds like an amazing family. Congrats to him in getting his life back on track, and being brave enough to go public with this. It's not easy to do.

Purchasing a one-way ticket to Rio with the intention of a Leaving Las Vegas style blow out. Yeah, that is mental illness. As he said, he was trying to come to terms with no longer performing week in week out in front of thousands (millions if you count tv audiences). Living a pampered life style, and hanging out/partying with celebrities. Yes, that is mental illness. This of course not even mentioning the most obvious part, addiction. Being dependent on alcohol is one of the most difficult substance abuses to overcome . Well done to claus for achieving that . I hope he can be a role model for others
