My perception would be we are quite good at scoring first but the not so good at converting that first blood into 3 points, I was wondering if the facts bear that out?

We've scored first in 19 of our 31 games, winning 12, drawing 3 and losing 4.

 

Opposition has scored first in 11 games, we've not won any of those games, but have drawn 5 (losing 6).

 

One 0-0 draw, v West Ham at home.

That really isn't that bad, well the stats for nice ahead at least. Would have expected worse.

 

I imagine this is another one of those things that all football fans say, akin to "we always do things the hard way" etc.

Not winning once having gone one behind could raise question marks, but at the end of the day, points are points and are total isn't too bad at all.

So we've got to 1-0 19 times out of 31 and to 0-1 11 times out of 31, so far, very good.

 

I would have thought being turned over from 1-0 up (or better) to losing the game 4 times out of 19 is a pretty high %ge?

 

As witnessed by the fact that we haven't been able to do it once to anybody else despite having 11 chances to do so .

In terms of points-per-game, we're 11th when the opposition score first. Only Stoke, Villa and West Brom of the teams below us have a better PPG record in those circumstances, so it's not horrendous, although we're one of only 4 teams (the others being Swansea, Sunderland and Crystal Palace) not to have won a game where the opposition has scored first.

 

Worth noting that only 5 teams have conceded first on fewer occasions (City 5, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool 8, Everton 10), which suggests we start games pretty well overall.
