Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 March, 2014 Share Posted 23 March, 2014 I think after supporting Saints for so long and the constant disappointments it is the fans that are mentally weak Name and shame time Nick.

The Kraken Posted 23 March, 2014 Share Posted 23 March, 2014 i think Stoke are closer to us than that, but I'm sure we will get enough to keep our 9th place. I'm sure that NC leaving is a major mistake as he had the drive to move us on, I'm not sure that KL has the same, the summer will soon tell us NC may have had the drive, unfortunately for his panderers he didn't have the resources yet carried on as if he did. KL is the resource, a shame that some of our dinlos put her lower in the food chain than an egocentric who got away with spending money he didn't have for a bit too long. How do you know what legacy Marcus left? And how is increasing the value with 300% (at least) of someones investment "spending money he didn´t have"? Saint_Tony Posted 23 March, 2014 Share Posted 23 March, 2014 I think there's a lack of leadership on the pitch as well as on the touchline. MP often seems to be quiet on the sidelines when things aren't going our way. We have a youngish side, and perhaps need a bit of experience to add some mental toughness

david in sweden Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 if it's as simple as that then reliance on one player isn't corrected in my book. a step in the right direction yes. you mean... like Liverpool depending on Suarez? (Yes ... Sturridge is good but it's Suarez who's got them where they are in the League.)
david in sweden Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 We have a lot of inexperienced players who don't know how to handle it when it doesn't go to plan. We have no pace in the team. We have players who react badly to pressure from the opposition and lose their cool. 1).Precisely because...... they are inexperienced and haven't learned enough yet. It takes time to aclimatise to the Prem. Shaw has done well.......but some players never adapt. Don't know till they're there. 2) Pace ?...we have 3 full backs who are pretty nippy, Lambert is slower, but good on assists and Jay Rod has scored a few goals by outpacing defenders...do you expect to see a pacy midfielder ? 3) ........see answer 1. david in sweden Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 (edited) Didnt Suarez miss the first 9-10 games through suspension (for biting) liverpoor were top 3 when he came back, having won 6-7 of the first 10! Some of those suspension games were last season. The game that we won (1-0) at Anfield in September was the last game of Suarez' suspension. He returned the week afterwards and helped keep them there with all those goals ever since, but...without him they might not even be above us. You might also remember that Saints were 3rd going into the Chelsea (away) game with one of the best defences in Europe (at that time).....but after Boruc broke his hand, then our decline began. Losing key players is most often the reason for failure to win. (see Arsenal). Edited 24 March, 2014 by david in sweden

Cabrone Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 The squad is small and by playing a hard physical closing down style they are probably getting tired and injury niggles are not helping. We are also safe with nothing much to play for which may be having an effect on player mentality. That all said to go to Spurs and push them all the way playing some top football in the first half wasn't too shabby. They are after all a top 5\6 team that spent huge amounts of money on players this season. If we can keep our current crop and strengthen in key areas we'll be a force next season. Can we keep them though?
Leicestersaint Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 Poor defending from two individuals cost us today. And our poor second half performance cost us.
melmacian_saint Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 To be honest one should not forget the contribution of agent Naughton to our bright start. Neither were that clear chances. It would've been a 0-0 game considering how uninterested both teams looked at times.
shurlock Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 Lack of a manager to change and drive things that deviate from his game plan, e.g. the other team fights back. A post on mental weakness. We have players who react badly to pressure from the opposition and lose their cool. I agree, mostly. Lovren, at his best, is coolness personified, but under pressure, he has shown that he can lose it. I think he's brilliant, but I've noticed this a couple of times now. He'll dive in when he doesn't need to. He got hurt seeking retribution in the sunderland game and it nearly happened again yesterday (I think he ended up getting caught by a teammate). Concentration needs to be maintained for 90+ minutes.
