Spurs 3 Saints 2 match reaction

Just typical Saints really. I reckon if we held on until half time we'd have won but conceeding a few minutes after our second was disgraceful. I would have thought those idiots would have learned their lesson after Sunderland away in January.

Which idiots, the players or the management ?

We appear to back off and let teams back in,soft and weak, it does no help having Fonte in the team either, Lovren had a shocker as well and a mistake from Clyne, we deserved to lose as we backed off when we should have gone for more, difference between a good and very good side.

We had at least 3 clear chances to put the match away, Lallana scuff shotted 2 of them and Shaw got over eager and smashed the ball into a Spurs defender when he shoud have just slotted it inside the post, that's inexperience for you, a senior pro would have put that away. Shaw has score zero goals and has 1 assist this season, it's not really good enough for a player of his talent.

the fans plead for a midfielder like Cork where we needed VW

Yet again! He's a class act.

He's a typical work horse player, but with added technical class. Some of his touches and passes are quality, he's way better than people give him credit for. I'd never drop him from our 11 to be honest.

Going from 2-0 to 2-1 was due to (a) Lovren being pushed off the ball. Ref decided it wasn't a foul but that was hardly a failure by Lovren, or the defence as a whole. Then (b), as the cross went through the area, Clyne missed his kick, which allowed the ball to reach Eriksen who scored an easy goal. That goal changed the game but it doesn't mean the team or the coaches were at fault, only that if those two incidents hadn't happened, neither would the goal. Tottenham played most of that game at 100 miles an hour and Saints did exceptionally well to compete with them. The result could have gone either way, and if Shaw had scored when he had a chance from the edge of the area in the way that Sigurdsson did later, it could have been 3-2 to us. Maybe there was also an element of Tottenham having something to play for, whereas for us, the season has been effectively over for some weeks, with the only question being whether we finish 9th or 8th. Not a lot of incentive about that.
