Spurs 3 Saints 2 match reaction

Disappointed with the result. Utterly predictable reaction by the trolls and mongs on the mongboard. Maybe after supporting Saints for half a century I am just used to stuff like this, and maybe it doesn't matter quite so much as it did when I was younger Anyway I'm off to watch the closing kms of Milan San-Remo.

What exactly would you have done differently then Alps? We were disappointing but with what we had on the bench I'm not sure what else we could have changed. Think we probably have to put this down to "one of them days" and be grateful that its a game that essentially had nothing riding on it.

Thought Lovren had a funny 10 mins and along with Clynes error that rocked us badly. JWP as a centre mid? Not sure on that one myself but how many people would have been happy with Reed playing the 90 mins?

Wow, its a 2-for-1 Classic Cliche sale round here today..

I've not seen Reed play but I've seen JWP completely out of his league away at Chelsea and now today so if he's a worker who tackles I'd have rather seen him in there. Missed VW massively today

That's ridicolous JWP actually played very well today.

No he didn't. He was bullied too often in important parts of the pitch. Nothing to do with his quality but his frame allowed Spurs to go through the middle too often and win loads of second balls. It's all a part of his experience and he is good enough to learn but this is the Premier League and the one part of the pitch you don't allow teams to dominate is the middle as the moment that happens you've little chance of winning the game. We lost the middle of the park in the second half and lost it 2-0 and it felt lucky to only lose it by that much.

As well as the fact we need to eradicate our defensive erros, we need to shoot the damn ball more!

What are we trying to do? Walk it in or something?!?!

There was a moment in that second half where I was crying for us to shoot...

Back to the drawing board then, with another disappointing second half...

They're fifth for a reason tbf, and we've gifted them 6 points like that.

Completely overrun in the second half - our midfield was lightweight. There has to be a serious conversation soon about JWP; coming up to the end of his second season at this level with plenty of game time and from my vantage point provides very little.

Wow,from wonderful dominance, splendid football in the first half to total and utter capitulation in the second half.

Lovren was atrocious,clyne struggled throughout.

But we could all see that.

What a waste of a good first half.

Sunderland all over again, the home supporters were on their back and they were gone just like stadium of light. Clyne made basic error, lovren unbelievably poor,Lambert might as well have gone home at half time. Yet again Gaston too causal in the last minutes gives the ball away gives and a free kick . long ball, could the keeper have gone and got it?

Yep, the defensive f**k ups are a symptom, not the cause.

So you're blaming the manager for the mistake of an individual?

So are you saying every mistake made on the pitch is mopos mistake?

if Lambert misses that is a symptom of poor management isi?

if Cork misplaces a pass that is a symptom of poor management isi?

if Lallana dribbles into a cul de sac and the ball ends up going for a throw in to the opposition that is a symptom of poor management isi?

what a Mongolian!

What a load of hysterical c**p i've just read.

Referee needs to be stronger and give the clear free kicks on Lovren. Then Tottenham would not been in the game.

Ramirez must learn not to give stupid free kicks away. It cost us the game in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more on all three counts. particularly your first point.

Come on mate, you cannot be expecting either of those to be a free kick - especially the 2nd one. Lovren went in too tight, was too weak and got done. Simple as that.

If a free kick was given against us in that situation you would be fuming, it wasn't a free kick. It was utter **** defending.

Loathe spurs and Sherwood. No doubt he'll give it the 'plucky little Southampton pushed us all the way nonsense', and worse than that he actually believes it. Depressingly predictable that every time we go 2-0 up it becomes a case of next goal wins.

Missing players, it showed.

Could have done with the midfield to take control after spurs goal and to open the second half, a bit of boring keep ball to settle back into the game and frustrate them.

Positives for sure though, shouldn't throw away a 2-0 but our first half hour we played some brilliant football. Have to say mind Lambert looks like he needs a rest (was brill fresh at the start and coming on last time out), last few weeks he has ran short after the sixty, maybe give Gallagher a start next week or Gaston - try keep RL ok for the run in.

On a final note, great to see the usual suspects appear so fast after we screw up ... shocking.

I thought our composure and concentration was really poor today.

I thought we would have learnt from Sunderland after conceding so soon after going 2-0 up, alas we didn't. To concede the equaliser less than a minute into the second half was Sunday league and to not pick up a second ball like that in injury time is criminal.

Lovren was terrible and looked to lose his head after confronting Soldado. I also thought Fonte was indecisive throughout alongside him eg poor defensive header from the free kick in injury time.

Second half we stopped using Lambert as we did in the first. I think J Rod's injury might well have hindered that, but we stopped playing to Lambert's feet and started lumping it, gifting Spurs easy possession.

Another salient difference was that Spurs were able to bring on Sigurdsson at half-time for Dembele to change things up. We didn't really have anyone that could come on for JWP. I think Ward-Prowse is a prospect, but he's not been on form for a while now and in the second half we could have done with some experience in the middle to get a hold of the game and regain our composure.

JWP was played out of position - he's an attacking midfielder. Unfair to have a go at young players shoehorned into positions to compensate for injuries.

If we'd had Schneiderlin + Waynama we would've won that, but we lacked any kind of defensive solidity. Second half we were absolutely dire.

Lovren cost us that, absolutelly **** performance by him 2nd half. Mistake for 1st and 2nd goals, then he was poor and affected our confidence. Not the first time this season that he has been poor.

Didn't have a good game but could have had free kicks before both the first two goals. Second was a definite push in the back.

Thought Boruc should have done

better withe the third.

Ref let a lot go and it cost us. Rise should have been yellow carded twice.

I'm not reading this whole thread cause it's too late in the night. But anyone complaining about "no plan B" can get f#$%ed. As for our depth today no Schneiderlin and no Wanyama. I was happy with the point up till a good strike took it away from us. You make mistakes you lose games. Simple cause and effect. They made two. We made three.

First was utterly a freekick. 2nd you'd normally get too as the spurs player went in from behind.

If Pochettino does leave in the summer he has yet another valid reason after this no-display.After our second goal I had serious reservations as the defence started to get pulled about. Then they score and 'bingo' my thoughts were 'they're going to come back and sneak it from us' and sure enough they did. Spurs didn't win, we gave it to them. How many more times do we have to witness the 'losing from a winning position?' It's nothing new. My sympathy to all who the Saints were there. You deserved much better than this.

And somebody else has said boruc was at fault for the winner. We have so many clueless fans on here. Clyne's error changed the game, spurs just weren't in it until then. Think the equaliser was a foul too - davie proven saying it wasn't hard enough to push him off his feet so it's not a foul. Um, ok then ...

Gutted, but in context we lost to a top 6 side so I'm not going to join the ranks of bedwetters just yet.

He gave the ball away with a causal touch in the centre of the pitch and then gave away the free kick. The free kick was dealt with poorly by a combination of fonte and lovren and personally I thought AB could have come and claimed it. The thing with Gaston is he keeps doing it, keeps giving the ball away, flatters to deceive time after time .
