bpsaint Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Courtesy of our local paper. Some pretty controversial choices it has to be said. Im particularly shocked to see the 85 centenary kit and the Denmark style Hummel one in there.... http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/11095184.10_worst_Saints_kits/?ref=var_0
Chez Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 The 85 kit is not made by Hummel, it's Patrick. Woeful journalism. Where is the 93-95 Pony home kit. That one is dreadful.
Saint Billy Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 All awful really especially the lack of imagination with the last two seasons.
Turkish Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Good to see the ecru 1997 shirt make an appearance, that was awful, should have been number one.
BlakeySFC Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 No.1 for me should've been the 2005/06 black away shirt, great design but the material was awful and it was like wearing a bin-bag. Disagree with alot of the choices on there, namely last seasons kit (which I liked) and this seasons kit (which I also like).

Cestrian Saint Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 **** poor journalism. You can't buy this seasons kit from Adidas and add your own badge for £30! The shirt is a different shade of red and has a slightly different design to the white sections under the arms. The ecru shirt was sold as a 3rd kit but I don't think it was ever worn by the 1st team. Same as that yellow 'Dimplex' 3rd kit with blue sleeves & black trim. Totally disagree about the Hummel 'Denmark' shirt being in there. I loved that kit and was going to buy the Denmark version. I went to order it and the guy said 'Southampton are going to wear that shirt next season, but you won't be interested in that, will you?' He thought I was joking when I told him I was a Saints fan. Made my day!
teamsaint Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 all blue shirts. Saints should never, ever, under any circumstances wear blue.

Made my day! Why the need to systematically dissect every point and rip the journalist to shreds? It's just a light hearted article in the local paper where some bloke who works for them and is a saints fan gives his opinion on the worst saints kits ever. Regardless of if they were 3rd kits or not they were still sh*t saints kits. And you can buy an exact replica of this season kit for under £20 without the badges and sponsor. Some of the mugs on here really need to lighten up.

adrian lord Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 Very enjoyable article, meandering through the horrors of history. What is extraordinary is that it must have taken real time, perverse imagination and effort to create such abominations - it would have been easier just to do something decent. You imagine the lads in the design office at Patrick or Hummel having a few beers for lunch on a Friday and then back at the office enthusiastically getting down to the job of making sure Southampton and their shirters look utter clowns next season. They would have laughed up their sleeves all weekend!

The Kraken Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 The yellow one was worse in that it was worn with white shorts and yellow socks. That famous yellow-white-yellow classic colour combination.
Turkish Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 The yellow one was worse in that it was worn with white shorts and yellow socks. That famous yellow-white-yellow classic colour combination. They were both pretty hideous, supposed to he flame effect but in reality looked like a bird had shat all over your top. Although I have a picture in my scrap book of me aged around 14 of me wearing it on a school trip to Wimbledon having my picture taken with an immensely fit female tennis player, who I have no idea who she was. I'm pretty sure it was the last saints shirt I ever owned.

I'm pretty sure it was the last saints shirt I ever owned. I only had the home version; the blue one reminds me of a trip to Villa Park and, after we kicked them all over the park, Micky Adams popped up with a late equaliser for a 1-1 that the locals weren't very happy about at all. The walk back to the car after the game was interesting...
