Fitzhugh Fella Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 On Sky's Regional paper talk - According to the Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers are "in negotiations with Southampton starlet Andy Robinson with a view to bringing him to the reebok in a permanent transfer". Bit odd this, I haven't noticed him playing in the U21s recently
Saint Charlie Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 He had been injured for a long time, and I guess they feel is behind players like JWP, Reed etc who are younger than him.

As you say he doesn't play for the under 21's much as he has dropped down the pecking order after his return from injury. Odd that he is described as a starlet and that the move is permanent - would have thought a loan to be more orthodox move right now - and it's odd why you should suddenly insert a comma between 21 and s but I am not going to lose sleep over it. I think you are trying to cause mischief Duncan by suggesting that we are offloading players. The truth is that of course the local paper are going to use words like starlet. Have you seen the Portsmouth news and how they big up their signings? If he leaves it will be because we said he had no future here.

It's better for them to get some contacts with other clubs now (especially if they're in the Championship) and not just be part of the mass of players scrubbing around for contracts in the summer. Every club does it, we're just doing it in the right way, giving these lads a chance to show what they can do in what I call "real football" because they'll not get a chance in the first team at SFC. For an uber pendant like MLG it is so wrong to insert an apostrophe where it is not needed. With this, my third post of the day, I shall take my leave. He is described as a "starlet" because it is a Bolton newspaper reporting the story in a positive light for their readership. Robinson is out of contract in the summer and behind teenagers like Ward-Prowse, Reed and others in the pecking order of young Saints central midfielders. Robinson is only 9 months younger than Wanyama. Edited 21 March, 2014 by Matthew Le God
Bearsy Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 yeah we're no longer interest in that MLG, we want to hear ur defence of apostrophe-gate. Court is waiting.
robdevil7 Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 In honesty, if he was good enough, such talk wouldn't have materialised. However, it is truly sad to see him leave. The whole situation is a bit strange and sad really. He made his debut for us in a new wave of academy products, then he just seemed to vanish completely up until now. Well, wish him luck. I was genuinely intrigued about Robinson as having played for the first team last season his star was on the up and of course he is included in All the Saints. I don't watch much U21 football and he had genuinely escaped my radar until I saw this story. So I wondered whether he was still rated by the experts on here, and if so why he was moving permanently. Nothing more nothing less. I had not known about his injury so my post was an inquisitive one, nothing more nothing less.
Saint Garrett Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 I only saw him play once but was impressed when I saw him. Very similar kind of player to Jack Cork from what I remember.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 (edited) Robinson has had a lot of injuries and the club have stuck by him during that time. He's looked ok at Youth Level but at his age now if he isn't going to make it here it is best he moves on. I believe he was told before Christmas he won't be getting a new deal but I'm not 100% convinced of the source. I thought he might well make it Quite a powerful player with good leadership credentials Injuries would have taken their toll though Best of luck for the future
Window Cleaner Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 I think he's only trial with them just now. They may or may not offer him a contract next season but it would depend on how much compensation they might have to give us.
david in sweden Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 (edited) Why is it odd? As you say he doesn't play for the under 21's much as he has dropped down the pecking order after his return from injury. .....which is exactly what happens to injured players in their late teens, or those who lose form at the wrong time in their career. L1 and L2 clubs are littered with former Saints' youngsters who - didn't quite make it when it mattered, and they are getting younger and younger. Any 21 year old, who hasn't made some impression within the first team squad.... and is still around ....can consider himself extremely lucky. Usually, by then it's the end of the road. There are more waiting. RECENT DEPARTURES of former Youth / Academy lads who " didn't make the cut " after a promising career at U18 / U21. include ; Jack Dovey, Harlee Dean, Ryan Doble, Aaron Martin, Sam Hoskins, Ben Reeves, Alberto Seidi, Fraser Colmer and just this week Corby Moore ...and thats only since summer 2102. Before that there are scores of them. perhaps... that's the really good thing about "the Academy " in that youngsters can get some sort of education, too ....in case the worst happens and they drop out of the game, and end up in a beetroot factory.
