Spudders Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Had a search on here as I know this sort of thing has been asked before, but couldn't find anything. I'm taking the Mrs & her kids to the Newcastle game, her 11 year old son supports Newcastle and he's never been to a game before. Problem is, he wants to wear his Newcastle Shirt, but I'm not so sure it's a good idea. I'll have a saints shirt on, so it'll be obvious we're not a group of Newcastle fans, it's just him. So two questions, would the stewards even let him in the home part of the ground wearing an away shirt? Should I tell him it's not a good idea anyway? He's only 11 years old so I'm thinking he's not gonna get too much abuse from saints fans (well no more than he'll deserve), but I'm still thinking it's not worth the potential hassle? Huffton Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Whilst I would like to think most grown adults wouldn't have a problem with it, we did have a case of a woman complaining to stewards about a 10 year old girl wearing a liverpool hat a couple of weeks ago. In the family stand.

Turkish Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Be careful spudders, our under 5s are known to not stand for anyone taking liberties in the family centre, this includes any other u5 mobs trying to take the family end. I've seen it go off a few times and they certainly are a game bunch. Luckily the rules of engagement mean that they dont slap shirters, especially ones on their own but you can never be too careful. I'd advise the barcode youth to leave his shirt at home and dress smart but casual, we dont want him getting ironed out in his first ever game. Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Was at Palace in with the home fans, and in the section we were in were some young saints fans in shirts (~10 11 yrs old)- they were treated with respect and left to watch the game- if we can't return the courtesy...... Lallana's Left Peg Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Probably not a wise thing to do. When I was 14 I was taken to West Ham vs. Saints by my Dad who was being entertained by a client of his. Wore my Saints shirt under my Saints drill top (all the rage back then ). Got into the ground and then when at the bar the police approached us and asked me to take my top off. I did to reveal my Saints shirt and we got escorted straight into the away stand Was the game Benali got sent off for launching Futre into Row F. JN9 Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Let him wear it. Consider it a social experiment and come back to us with your findings. Might be worth taking him to a few games and sticking him in with each stand, she how he fares...

UpweySaint Posted 21 March, 2014 Share Posted 21 March, 2014 Young enough not to get more then a few dodgy looks for his efforts and maybe hearing the odd muttered profanity but, if you can convince him, maybe best going with something neutral. If he's a Newcastle fan through and through no sense trying to deck him out in saints gear!

brmbrm Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 Hopefully the above are witty sarcastic mode. The thought of abusing a kid because of his team/shirt for FFS sake - come on, get real: like someone said, any other sport, its not an issue, any other fan mentality its not an issue. saintchris23 Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 I've taken a Liverpool, spurs and arsenal fan into the Northam this season using my season tickets and they've enjoyed the banter with the people that stand around me and whilst not making a noise when something happened on the pitch, they've enjoyed the banter when something went against them. Stewards will not allow away colours in the stands but provided he doesn't make it wake at then his Newcastle shirt under his top will be fine. I'm in the corporate for this game with clients and can't believe we aren't allowed to wear jeans. All the money I've paid and I get told what to wear? At White Hart Lane last season it was the same story, one of my clients turned up in jeans and fitted in quite well with plenty of others wearing jeans. The moral of the story is that rules can be broken and provided people don't make a scene then you can get away with it BUT you're reliant on the average numpty football fan. Rugby on the other hand......

red&white56 Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 You can't control the reaction of other people. While the prospect of a young lad wearing an away kit in the Saints end getting grief all seems immature, on match day things change.............. For me it's a risk, which could ruin your day. Pilsmer Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 I wouldn't. Think it's massively disrespectful to the club personally, if he HAS to wear it, make sure he wears a hoodie/jacket over the top. I don't think its disespectful to the club. We're supposed to be a family club. I'm not sure exactly what this means but I'm sure one the criteria is that it welcomes its fans and their families - even those of split loyalty - to be able to come and enjoy a match together. If an away fan or a group of them intentionally infiltrate a home stand with the purpose of antagonising the home fans and causing trouble that's one thing, a primary school child openly supporting his team in a family stand is completely different. Also, you are making a huge assumption that a Newcstle fan will bring a jacket.
Turkish Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 With the match near to sell out I'm stunned to see people condoning an away fan in the home end. Understandable what your saying but he has a right to see his team albeit in the home section...however, if I was this 11 year old, I would definitely not wear the Newcastle top and would not cheer them on. Rut Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 For those saying 'it is fine' then what if 200 of the little shts turn up in Man Utd shirts later in the season. Matthew Le God Posted 22 March, 2014 Share Posted 22 March, 2014 If an adult goes to a game in the home end with a child in an away shirt it makes it look through association like that adult is an away fan in the home end. It really isn't worth the trouble it could potentially cause.
